Easy to book an appointment online, quick service and great kid's cut for $25. Parking is street only but easy enough to find a close spot.

LOC CUSTOMERS BEWARE!!!…read more I am heavily disappointed at the cleanup I had to do after my hair was done at this establishment. Let me first say that I normally get my locs professionally done in New York and at a fabulous salon called knotty roots in kearney, New Jersey which is a real natural salon specifically for locs and natural hair using natural products but the owner was not in so I opted to use this establishment at 502 Springfield Avenue in Newark as a backup. The process of washing and retwisting my hair at this salon was exhausting and weird. First, they used a " natural" peppermint shampoo that was not at all diluted which burned my forehead and then used a mask on the locs for moisturizing. The owner proceeded to have clients dry their locs under intense heat before retwisting. All professionals who are knowledgeable of locs know this process will not only create heaviness in the locs but also heavy buildup which can create a lint looking effect in the locs over time. The worst was not over, as the hair and edges are dry, she slathers huge amounts of gel to retwist and lay it down which is a no no. Again, wet hair is both easier and better for your hair. Wet hair is more elastic and manageable to twist, whereas twisting dry hair can cause breakage and damage. After this fiasco, I was sent to the dryer AGAIN! And paid a higher price for a non style hairdo. As time went on throughout my day, both my husband and I noticed the edges were getting white as snow due to too much gel in the hair. I literally had to wash down my hair which also means horrible buildup for the rest of my hair and having to perform a serious loc detox. Horrendously, this is the second time that this has happened at her shop and she was advised of this the first time which she apologized and blamed her staff for not allowing me to dry longer so I wanted to give the owner another chance as a black owned business but clearly its her methods and she teaches unprofessional ways of handling loc'd hair and as I can see, she knows nothing about proper loc care. I cannot as a customer pay to have my hair done and go home to redo tragedy. I texted her personally and have not heard back from owner and definitely will not patronage this establishment ever again!!! I support black businesses but you should never support a business with horrible practices no matter what color they are.

Not my cup of tea…read more Prices alter- I get it I worked there previously- 6 hours- Got paid $4 at the end of it. I had a crooked under cut. And paid for it.. lmao Retwist were fine!

When we visited Glamorous Girlz, there was only one person working (totally forget her name, even tho she introduced herself). She was very sweet and VERY patient while the 2 little ones I was with looked, touch and screeched at every glittering item they saw! She was very helpful when both girls found a lipgloss they just had to have & paid with their own money. I remembered to grab a brochure for the mother's of both girls since you have host parties and get your nails done at the business! Definitely everything a sweet little girl dreams of!

While…read moremost of her friends seemed to enjoy themselves, my daughter was quite upset when it was clear that none of the stylists were familiar with black hair. As a result, the stylist was able to do very little with her hair compared to the rest of her friends. Being the only black little girl at her party, this made her feel quite excluded with respect to hair services, and it was devastating to watch her disappointment. I would strongly suggest that if this business continues to offer hair services, they should really hire some stylists that are familiar with more inclusive hair styling for little girls of color . This is absolutely unacceptable for 2022 in New Jersey, especially for a business that offers hair services. And it was simply heartbreaking to watch a my daughter experience this kind of exclusion. And while they are at it, this business might want to consider changing up their website a bit to showcase more inclusive photos of Black and Brown girls. Until this happens, I will be discouraging all of my friends from bringing their business here, particularly if they are hosting parties that have people of color in attendance.

where do i start...phew, too many issues from rude staff to lies and using my photos without…read moreconsent. I honestly think Autumn the stylist I dealt with might be mentally unstable. Sadly I think she may own the salon. Anyhow, just poor communication skills in setting up the appointment. No one responded my text messages, just IG. On IG I asked for a range for how much a rewtist would be and all she could say was "$60 and up." Then when I arrived 12 minutes late, someone barked at me to wear a mask. Mind you there is a 15 minute grace period and I let her know in advance that I was running late. As she washed my hair she spilled water all over me and when I asked for a towel she ignored me. Ironically, because of the mask policy I couldn't even drink water. So after almost 3 hours, I left the salon parched and thirsty. Additionally, it started getting cold and I had to put on my hoodie. This was a BIG deal to interrupt her for 30 seconds. She was huffing and puffing, clearly annoyed. When she put me under the dryer and I asked how long I'd be under she wouldn't tell me. She just said "until it's dry." So I had to get up to look despite my hair already being dry. Nonetheless, I continued to be kind and respectful. At the end I noticed she was snapping pics so I asked her if she was taking photos. She claimed just to show me, which I appreciated because the salon barely had any mirrors. I thought it was weird that she didn't even ask to take my photos but requested she send them to me. Despite all this I still tipped, which went unthanked. I will say I really did love how my hair turned out. She also gave me a number of hair maintainance tips to prevent my locs from falling out. Now here is why I am writing this review... I get home and it turns out she posted the pictures on both Instagram and Facebook. When I raised the issue, telling her to take down the posts and refund me, she didn't acknowledge lying to me or violating my privacy. She took the photos down, but we all know nothing can truly be deleted from the internet. Also Autumn did not refund me AT ALL. In fact she started bringing up random issues she had with me like I showed up in work out clothes so people thought I was unsanitary and I was supposedly 25 minutes late but she still took me and gave me extra time.... all signs of mental instability given that I messaged her when I arrived and there is a timestamp clearly showing I was only 12 minutes late. To top things off she had the nerve to say that she didn't accept my apology for being late. Wow...I will never go back to this place. The prices are affordable but the disrespect is too much of a cost. Save yourself the hassle.

Thank you Ms Autumn for restoring my beautiful crown at a reasonable price and such great service!…read moreDespite the rainy weather that day, you truly brightened it and I'm forever grateful. The compliments are coming like crazy... Now, I must admit I'm a little biased about having my hair and scalp scrubbed (darn near to the point of orgasm...*sigh*) by my previous stylist so I did subtract one star. I apologize, but there are few who are willing to take it there at the shampoo bowl. No biggie, though. I enjoyed every minute of my Hippie Empire experience otherwise and can't wait to come back!
