I found myself with a hole in my social calendar one Thursday night the second week they were open, and decided to see what the buzz was all about. Their website and facebook page suggested to "dress to impress", so I dug out one of my bespoke Italian suits and found the perfect silk tie to match (lots of orange, because it was nearly Halloween) and hopped in the car to arrive early enough for the first show (they have two shows per night, 7pm and 9pm, both roughly 90 minutes). Picturing a bar-full of women in swanky gowns and men attired similarly to me, I was disappointed in finding out that substituting heels for sneakers with jeans was the norm for women, and throwing on a blazer over jeans was the standard for men. This is more a reflection of the area, than the business, and there were some couples who took this suggestion seriously, with some people dressed to the nines. The inside is gorgeous, with the lounge area filled with comfortable-looking seating areas, and a couple of tables for diners (not a lot of those, however). Paintings of legendary singers lined the walls. The bar area is sparsely decorated, and a bit too starkly lit for my taste, picturing the smoky jazz joints of my misspent youth. Lots of stools, and a beautiful stone bar top completed the look. I found a seat at the bar, and ordered a martini. No Stolichnaya available (except for raspberry) so I settled for Grey Goose instead. It was perfectly mixed, and I awaited for the piano show to begin. As they were new and starting to fill their entertainment ranks, that night they had a pianist who was auditioning. He was acceptable, with a decent voice, but lacked a lot of the spark of other performers I've seen. I have to go back another night to hear some of their other performers they have lined up. There's a menu of small plates that will fit nicely with cocktails, which is the main attraction there, with a list of seasonal offerings. Since I had already eaten, I didn't order any food, but what I saw presented to others looked good. Something for my next trip. All in all, this is someplace I will probably frequent, since it's close by, and in time, I'm sure the concept will catch on and become very popular. I'd suggest giving 88Keys a try for a special date night, or someplace to go if you're looking for a different vibe than the other entertainment venues in the area.

Mieke takes the time on each and every piece to find the perfect frame, the perfect mat the perfect size, etc. She has turned framing into it's own design/art form and the results are stunning. We've brought her everything from paintings to simple family photos to antique photos of our great grandfather and each one ended up unique and special. We have had family and guests ask us where we had things framed because they are so beautiful and "not what everyone else has". Just as important as the end product is the process with Mieke. She makes it a really fun design process with creativity. Telling the story of the pieces is part of it--where it will hang and what it's meaning is. Here's what I love about it: - the corn maze is challenging but still fun for everyone - kids and adults alike! I love that there's an option to track yourself in the maze via gps/on a website. The tracking isn't 100% accurate but is good enough to help you figure out how to get out. - We almost always go on Columbus Day. Because it's a holiday weekend they typically have live music. - they include a tractor hay ride with admission, as well as hay bales for the kids to climb on and other fun lawn games. - there is food, snacks and a small farmers market/produce stand. - Admission price isn't too bad - $19.95/adult and only $4.95/kids. - there's sufficient parking! If you're in the area - or even an hour drive away - The Farm is a great place for Fall fun for the whole family!

We saw carnival rides, carnival games, children's activities, two stages of live music, booths from 26 garlic growers, 97 Specialty Food Stands, 8 Soap vendors, 14 Food Court vendors, 60 craft vendors, 16 Snack Food Vendors, 12 Jewelry vendors, and 9 "miscellaneous" vendors. We walked around for an hour and picked up an eclectic group of stuff -a chili soup mix, a cinnamon chocolate chip bread, a salted caramel coconut beer blondie, a salted pretzel knot, two Asian dumplings, and a cup of chocolate Italian ices. It was outstanding, simply outstanding.
