There are two options to get to this hilltop. You can take this Funicular or you can take the sky cable car. They are both at different locations except at the top of the mountain . The station connects with the metro system, so you can easily walk from the station to board. Once on top, you get access to the parks that overlook the city and you can visit the castle and the sea side trail.

I have been on several funicular railways in my lifetime so I had an idea what to expect. This gondola lift will take you almost to the top where Montjuic Castle is. The best feature versus walking up is that you will nice views of the city on the way up. This lift is not to be confused with the Port Vell Aerial Tramway. This ride is not a must do activity, as walking up actually doesn't take much time.

Ok experience if you have time to go up here for an afternoon to view the city. The tram was really crowded when we went on the second of January. I think the price is a little high for a quick ride to the top, but it's a tourist experience so I get it. Once at the top, you can pay another 7 Euros to go inside and see the fortified castle. Or you can just walk around and go to take a break and see the port and the vast Mediterranean Sea. The funicular ride is not a must-see, but the whole Montjuic area is a must see. It's a lovely area which was the site of the 1992 Olympics. They still have the stadium that you can walk into and also see the Olympic sized swimming pool that overlooks the city.

The station is located close to the L1 metro and Arc de Triomf. This is the station for domestic travel. Over 30 platforms and somewhat busy on a Friday morning around 8:30. The information booth/waiting area with bus arrival/departure times information as well as small cafe are located close to Platform 17. Helpful people at the information booth as we had some questions about our tour meeting point which ended up changing to a different platform. Looks solid for travel by bus options.

There are also separate tickets available to go to the airport. The kiosk is fairly easily to use although we wanted to speak with an agent to make certain we understood. An agent is available and we spoke to her. She only spoke Spanish and I was able to decipher what she was telling us. We ended up purchasing one of the unlimited tickets. Tickets become validated the moment you use them to enter the station. Outside of the station are Metro maps. Be sure to grab one so that you know which route to use. It is an easy system provided you're on the correct platform going in the direction desired. The locals will help you as some speak English. Luckily I knew the Spanish terminology. Clean and safe although the trains tend to be very crowded. Trains run fairly often. Just be aware of your important items.

Purchasing tickets are easy through the ticket machines. I purchased a T-Casual as that was more than enough for me. That amounted to about 12 EUR. Note that because I arrived in Barcelona via the Renfe, I didn't need to worry about purchasing a separate airport ticket, which would've coughed up an extra 5 EUR. Google Maps and the Citymapper app helped me plot my journey across my time in Barcelona, but the stations clearly point out the stops as needed. They do go a bit deeper underground, but the stations itself are more accessible friendly due to the 92 Olympics. When inside the train, most of the announcements are indeed in Spanish, but you can figure out where you need to go. Just like most cities in Europe, remember to open the latch or press the button to exit the train. Overall, an easy and pleasant way to get around Barcelona.
