This is a review of Dr Koretoff and the physical therapy practice…read more I visited Koretoff mid 2024 for ongoing shoulder pain. He spent the entire appointment acting like he was late for other things and had too much going on, really didn't seem interested in hearing what I had to say and was so scattered I thought wow maybe he is just having a bad day and is distracted by something. When I went back for a second follow up visit he was even more distracted and uninterested in talking to me. He repeated the same things over and over as though he forgot he had already told me certain things that same day, kept saying he was really busy and made me feel like I was an inconvenience. Based on the first appointment he had referred me to their physical therapy program. This is the key for the practice. It wouldn't exist but for the overpriced PT that is the magic answer for all their patients. Now for the billing. Each THIRTY MINUTE physical therapy appointment is billed at $550 to your insurance. They charge $220 for 15 minutes with a STUDENT physical therapist. $230 for 15 with a licensed PT. I do have a high deductible insurance plan which I am well aware of. This means I owe a larger percentage of whatever the cost is up to my deductible. I have seen other offices and been to PT many times throughout my life and generally expect the total for a PT session to be anywhere from $120-$250 and my portion of the co-insurance to be calculated based on this. In the case of this office, they waited FOUR months until I had completed the recommended course of PT to send me any kind of bill. Strategic, so that I would not know the amount until I had completed my therapy. They have obviously implemented this strategy for a reason. Yes it is my fault for not asking for a bill upfront but never in my life have I seen a supposedly reputable PT practice charge these prices. They received from my insurance over $350 for each one of these $550 thirty minute sessions and STILL want to charge me personally $80 per session. Talk about a RACKET. Wow. When I first received the bill I called immediately with my concerns and very calmly explained the situation and rationale. I was told the office was going to discuss the matter and see what they could do for me. Over the course of the next two months I was not contacted again by SDSM and instead had to reach out to them two MORE times. Each time I was told a different story. At one point the billing office agreed the amount was very high and I was told the actual therapist could agree to a discount and that they were going to discuss this. Again, no follow up just repeated bills in the mail. When I called again to ask the outcome I was told that they can't offer any kind of discount if any portion has been paid by insurance. WTF. I again explained my outrage at the pricing and that I never would have continued and certainly never will go back had I known what they intended to charge. Again, "we will call you back". Each time I made it perfectly clear they were NOT to send this to collections which they agreed. Months went by and I received a bill now almost a year later saying that my account is delinquent and to avoid collections to contact them which I did immediately. After putting me on hold for ten minutes to read the copious notes they have in my file I was told there is nothing they can do except offer a payment plan. Upon supposedly transferring me to the payment plan office she promptly disconnected the line without actually transferring me. I had to call back AGAIN and leave a message. Everyone should be aware that this is their practice. If you are okay with insanely high bills and a practice that takes advantage of insurance (which is why we ALL pay insane premiums) then go ahead and support their business. $550 for a 30 minute PT session. No thanks. And their doctors aren't even good. Needless to say, my shoulder still hurts and now I have a headache and hours of my life lost talking to them about a ridiculous bill. Really wish people wouldn't support a business that takes advantage of insurance and over bills.

Dr. Myers also did not push SDSM's PT service. 5 stars for Dr. Myers. I'd call the staff average. Being nice to them does help. Their billing department and referral departments could use some work, though. I got overcharged, and it took them 5 months to resolve what should have been very simple. Meanwhile, the referral department can be very slooooow, and inflexible. I had requested a different provider, and my PCP agreed to the change. The referral department would not accept the substitution, claiming the doctor did not send them an official referral request. Of course, I don't find this out until after several months after I started with my provider that we didn't have a "legitimate" referral. I still recommend them, but with those caveats.

Save yourself a few minutes and skip reading this review and call and go in and get yourself fixed…read more Or spend 5 minutes that you will never get back and keep reading. Surfing is my favorite thing to do. I hadn't surfed for a year and a half. I tried everything to get my knee back to health but the doctors said I need a knee replacement. The surgeon didn't want to do it though because I was only 45 years old and he wanted to wait till I was older so it could last me till death. He said he would do it if I really wanted but couldn't guarantee it would help. I tried everything from experimental injections, to stem cells to supplements to red lights to braces and pretty much anything you can buy to help. I have spent a lot of money on this knee. Just google osteoarthritis and you will see that everybody is saying they got the cure. Finally, as the last thing before just sayin f... it and getting surgery. I started looking into sports medicine and physical therapy. I started with some bs online programs and even bought one. But it wasn't tailored to my specific problem. A generic program can help but you want to target the problem and work on that directly for the best results. I had torn the meniscus 2-3 times over the last 15 years but never got it fixed. Doctors won't do an mri and tell you to ice and rest. Now I have osteoarthritis on the lateral side of my right knee. This degradation of my knee was not just from getting older. It was from living life to the fullest and shredding... from soccer to baseball to basketball to skateboarding to snowboarding and most of all surfing and everything in between . I just wanted to talk to some people locally that would see me and get their thoughts on if they could help. After speaking with a few other places, I finally found Colton at functional performance institute. I actually had an appointment somewhere else prior but they had to reschedule due to the main guy not being available. They wanted to have me see another person there that wasn't the specialist. This was after they told me how great that guy was and that I had to be seen by him. Thank god for that as it continued my search. I'm sure a lot of the other places are good, but why have good when you can have great? From the first phone call with Colton, I knew this place was different. He set up a free consultation and told me hey if I could help you great, and if I can't, good luck. Long story short I went in and he did some tests on my movements and pain and flexibility. He let me know that my knees were no worse than professional athletes that are still playing and he set up a program to strengthen the right parts of my legs and body to support my knees. He told me I had to commit to the program he sets up and to myself if I want this to work. He built a custom plan targeting the muscles used for surfing to help protect my knee. Fast forward 5 months, I started to feel much better and stronger, so I booked a weeklong surf trip in Nicaragua. Pumping, fast pitching barrels, yeah, what was I thinking right? Honestly, my buddies made me go since I was so bummed out for the longest time. They said just go and kick it, even if you don't surf it will be best week of my life. Surfed all day everyday. I continued rehab when I got back and now surf regularly again. I definitely am more careful and I don't go every day but I feel good and confident in my knees again and have no pain. Everybody here kicks ass from the front desk to Colton to the other therapists, they are all awesome and complement each other well. Brian is another therapist here and there is literally no drop off in his skills or knowledge. When I first met him, I was thinking okay...here we go, I'm being pushed down the line to the new guy who just took an online class but boy was I wrong. If I would have started with him on the first day, I know this journey would have had the same results. I can't say enough about how great this place is. If you have pain or injury holding you back from enjoying your best life, you owe it to yourself to go in here and take back your life. If cost is holding you back from being able to do the things you want to do, remember one thing...it's just money.

I couldn't recommend this place any more if I wanted to. Don't hesitate, just make the commitment…read moreand these guys will get you back in working shape. I've been going to dr Colton for years now and I love the man. He's knowledgeable and great at what he does.
