I was really excited to begin my rehab journey at Function Enhancing PT (FEPT). My experience didn't seem to match those of other reviewers unfortunately though. The care itself I'd give an incomplete. I don't have anything bad to say as it seemed helpful while I was there. I did not finish out my rehab here so I'm honestly not sure how I would have ultimately fared if I had stayed. Administratively and communicatively speaking, this place is a mess. To outline some of the failures I experienced... 1.) I had an experience where one of the staff members was multitasking when I was trying to book my next appointment. I was given the day and time of my appointment. I wrote it in my calendar on the spot. Apparently, either the wrong date and time were recorded on their side or I was given the wrong info. I showed up on the day of the appointment and the office was completely closed. Mind you, getting to the establishment is 40 minutes round trip for me. When I reached out after to express disappointment, I was told by the staff I was called several times and that my appointment had been for the day before. Turns out, the number I provided on my first day was not recorded by the office correctly to begin with. FEPT did not try to charge me for the visit but there was an undertone of blame lodged which was unsettling. 2.) Upon initially reaching out to solicit care, the office staff plugged in my insurance info and informed me of my co-pay. Several weeks in, the staff asked if I had received any checks for services to my mailing address (I had not). They informed me they hadn't received any reimbursement and it was coming back as out of network. Puzzling given they ran my information before I began my rehabilitation and I was in-network. Out of fear I was going to get some surprise bill, I called my insurance and it turned out that the therapist FEPT originally submitted paperwork for was not the one who was servicing me. I don't know what the in-house structure is among the PTs, but either way, FEPT were submitting the claims wrong initially and this created yet another headache though this was ultimately resolved but not without time and effort on my part. 3.) I noticed after my initial PT sessions were approved, my insurance only approved 3 or 4 sessions at a time. Going twice a week, that meant my sessions were expiring every 10-14 days. This seemed unusual so I called up my insurance (again) and the reason I was given was that FEPT had failed to provide sufficient information to clearly indicate where my progress was and the insurance company was made to believe I was close to the end of my needed treatment. I was nowhere close to being finished. I'm not sure internally who was responsible for this, but clearly the insurance had not received what they needed to process more sessions at a time when more were needed. 4.) This brings me to my final issue and it's related to the above. As sessions were regularly running out, the staff did not stay on top of this. They would wait until I would finish my last session to seek authorization for additional ones. I would run out of sessions and then be told that I would need to wait a few extra days again before booking my next one so they could request more. This would mean in that week, I would not get in my normal needed treatment thus extending the timeline for my recovery. My insurance also informed me they do not require all sessions be used to seek authorization for additional ones. Once this happened the last time I was there, FEPT said they would call me back after they received authorization and would book my next appointment. They never called and needless to say, I never went back. I went elsewhere. I could nitpick about some overbookings or the fact that I could never get the same appointment time, but those were minor in comparison to the above. I hope my experience was an isolated one, but it sure seems like this place has a lot of work to do. read more

I came to see Dr. Nick Spiratos for a second opinion about a Neurological type of condition that I have been suffering with for about three years now. This condition gave me some very annoying symptoms, such as Vertigo, dizziness, lack of balance, lack of coordination, blurry vision, etc. I saw neurologists, ENTs, audiologists, psychologists, an oncologist, chiropractors, and physiotherapists, but no one was able to diagnose what was triggering these symptoms. Dr. Spiratos took his time to look to my X-rays and MRI reports, and, with the help of a chiropractor friend, he found out that my symptoms were coming from Adhesion on the suboccipital muscles; from a neck trauma, and from muscles' imbalances on my back that, apparently, all the specialists that i saw before him couldn't understand.  He sat down and explained to me my situation. He also came out with a treatment plan, and said that it would be a trial to see what works best for this particular case. He also said that I would need the intervention of other noninvasive procedures to help the body recover faster.  It has been four months since I started my therapy at this place, and I can say that I'm feeling much better now. The symptoms have not gone away completely but they have reduced significantly, so that i can control them better now. He is also doing Graston technique on my body because of a tendinopathy issue that took over me due to the fact that I used to do sports and weight lifting for many years. Dr. Nick Spiratos is a very caring, friendly, and honest professional. I'm very pleased with his treatment so far. He takes his time to listen to his patients, and if there is something that is out of his professInal scope, he will advise his patients to seek the help of another professional. I've seen many professionals with great personalities in the past, but Dr. Spiratos is beyond that.  His staff is very friendly, educated, and efficient as well. They take their time to help meet their patients' needs and expectations Thanks a lot for all the help so far, Dr. Spiratos. For those w/chronic pain looking for serious one-one-one, focused patient care, Function Enhancing Physical Therapy is the right place for you. We discovered this place because of their spine rehabilitation therapies mentioned on their website. My Mother has all of the mentioned spine disorders (scoliosis, spinal stenosis, sciatica, bulging degenerative discs.) A complex case, phys. therapist, Nick Spiratos, confidently provides hands on manual massage therapy working hard each time to reactivate her unused muscles. After only a few sessions, we are seeing small, (but exciting) positive changes. The byproduct is my Mom has a renewed sense of hope & commitment to a possibly straighter posture one day & has complete faith, trust & confidence in Nick's approach to healing. Besides being a knowledgeable healer, he is a kind person. We highly recommend this place. read more

I have been to physical therapists on and off for many years. This is the first time I have been been treated with such professionalism and caring. I could barely walk one day and Nick helped to alleviate this pain. Everyone knows your name and is extremely friendly. I highly recommend the therapists there. read more

I highly recommend this place. My Dad had relapse after his open heart surgery thank God Olympia and Nick were very professional and patient with him. I have had a number of physical therapy for my ACL replacements at other places and they do not compare to Function Enhance PT. read more

I have been going to see the lead therapist at this facility for many years. I am always treated with amazing hospitality and professionalism. The facility is beautiful and super hygienic. The therapists are very welcoming and sensitive to my needs and because of their support I am almost recovered. I recommend this place highly. I miss all of them and I am recovered here and there a little pain however their exercises have assisted me in the long haul back to work. read more

Couldn't be happier coming here. I get specialized attention every appointment. This is a different physical therapy. The therapist is with you 100 percent of the time. Very easy to deal with. I highly recommend this place to any one with back and neck problems (that's what I've been seen for). clean office space, patient rooms and rehab areas. The staff is very friendly and patient. The pt staff are very knowledgeable. The office staff will also help you through all paperwork ( insurance/workman's comp, referrals) as that can get very frustrating trying to go at it alone. I suffered a trimalleolar fracture of my left ankle and had surgery with a plate and several screws. I was non-weight bearing for 6 weeks post op, however was able to start physical therapy at Main Street in Ozone Park 3 weeks after surgery. Dr. Sivaraman, Mugu and everyone else at Main Street Physical Therapy were excellent. I was having severe difficulties ambulating with my crutches when I went for the first time for physical therapy and my therapist adjusted them so I was able to walk with less ease. At each therapy session, I would have range of motion exercises, massage and heat/cold stimulation for my ankle which drastically helped with my pain and progressed me from non-weight bearing to weight bearing. As time was getting closer to weight bearing, Mugu progressed me to the bike and thought me how to walk again. My injury was severe and I am extremely happy that I went in to Main Street Physical Therapy because I was unable to walk, and in a few weeks came out walking on both feet. The staff is always warm, welcoming and helpful. Today am I on both my feet and back at work doing much better than expected for my type of injury. I am a medical practitioner, I give my highest recommendation to Main Street Physical Therapy! read more

All i can say is they take my pain away. I suffer from vertigo and my posture from sitting all day behind a desk, provokes migraines and I always seem to have a stiff neck from slouching over my PC screen. In the last few months that I have been visiting Nick i have seen a great difference. My vertigo spells are less and less and the cracking he does of my back and neck have alleviated my pain and my migraines. The staff is great and very knowledgeable as well as very accommodating. Making an appointment is very easy and I seldom have to wait, plus I always get an appointment reminder the day before which is great! The office is modern clean and they are even nice enough to walk with you in the elevator and take you to the individual room for your session. The therapists go beyond to help by any means, Ive been shown exercises and gotten advice on diet alterations and suggestions for my overall health and i couldn't be more appreciative. I always recommend this place and recently i even convinced my mother to give them a try, she has bulging disks on her back and is in constant pain, and she can already see a difference. She was also shown exercises she can do on her own specifically for her condition and the therapist did a very thorough consultation with her covering her way of life, diet and needs and as a result my mother is doing better in just a couple of weeks of therapy (twice a week). I highly recommend this office, they do a great job. read more
