We were getting takeout yesterday and actually, our second experience trying Funburger. A second review as well but due to a misunderstanding with Yelp, as to whether I was dining compliments of them during an Elite event ( I wasn't). Or whether I and my wife paid for our own meal (we most assuredly did). And that, about a week after the free Yelp event had ended. My first review was still scrapped by Yelp. Sometimes we just can't make those Elite invitations. Now if my current Funburger review is allowed to remain, here is my take on them. We love the whole vibe of this place. Great for a fun time dining out; whether alone, couples, families, or groups. With mostly above average menu choices. Our takeout order for three people consisted of the following; my Lone Star Beef Ribs plate, with a side of fries and garlic bread. My wife's brisket burger. And our son's brisket plate with his choice of mac & cheese and garlic butter toast. My beef ribs were as tender as any I've ever eaten! And with huge cuts of meat; the two that come in an order are equivalent to at least four you'd usually get most other places. No joke! With only one complaint of the sauce not being the most satisfying. Rather weak flavor wise. So a little Sweet Baby Rays added is recommended. Or any favorite choice you may desire. But these ribs were so well grilled they can stand the test of no sauce required. Now as for my fries, sort of meh after the short trip home. And the garlic butter toast could really use more garlic. But those ribs! Hats off to the kitchen! My wife enjoyed her brisket sandwich, but our son has yet to chime in. A definite future return visit is in the cards. read more

I haven't been back to this place since they had a yelp event and order a burger, which was very good Harris ranch meat and the burger is cooked too well done serve lettuce, tomato, mayo, etc. they have two sizes a 2 1/2 ounce in a 4 ounce and fries are separate. The fries have some crunch to them, but I'm not sure what they are coded with as the surface is rather bumpy so that would usually mean a package product service was excellent. The person that manages and or takes the orders always greet you with a smile and today was no exception I did find out that they changed ownership in April and that they will have a new name in a few weeks. Signs are already ordered. It will be called bullpen barbecue and taphouse so hopefully a little bit more barbecue items and it will keep that sports bar feel. We did a big order for the office and everyone liked it I got the half rack of pork ribs and they were tasty and a lot of them for half a rack. I liked the coleslaw it was not overdressed and had good flavor from celery seed. Make me feel healthier - cuz cabbage lol! I got to once again show this spot to someone new!!! A friend who lives in the area never tried out this spot before but she uses the spa in the area. My girlfriend and I were delighted to let her know about the delicious BBQ options they have!!! I'm always the one to suggest coming here due to their barbecued ribs or burgers. My friend tried out the Original Funburger and she was super impressed at the gluten-free bun option that Funburger offered! She remarked that usually other places charge more to sub with a gluten-free bun, so that was very cool to know. We shared the chicken wings and found them to be as delicious as ever!!! I always have ranch with them!!! My girlfriend debated between the BBQ brisket and the BBQ tri-tip but she chose the tri tip. It was very meaty and lean. There was a yelp elite event here a few months ago that I missed, but I have since had it bookmarked and finally made it out today. Not crowded on a Saturday around 2:45pm. This place smells like delicious BBQ the second you open the door. Initially I wanted a burger, but after much internal debate, I settled on the tri tip with a side of Mac and cheese. Tri tip was tender and flavorful. Smoky with a sweet and smoky bbq sauce (I asked for extra). The Mac and cheese was perfectly gooey and had good flavor. The garlic toast that came with the meal was also very good. My husband got a smash burger with brisket and onion rings on it and it was great. Cooked well and flavorful. My SO wanted to try this place because I have been raving how good the food is. I came here before for a Yelp Elite event and I was impressed with how much food there was. And how delicious it was. Food Tri - tip with Mac and Cheese, Garlic Toast, and Tortilla Soup Brisket with Mashed Potato, Garlic Toast, and Tortilla Soup The meats were tender and savory. What a fun night filled with savory hearty food and hey! Dodgers won the World Series! From top to bottom, all the food offering at Funburger & BBQ were so delicious. This was a really great night and we all left very full and satisfied! We had the Tri-tip, baby back ribs, BBQ chicken, and brisket. These guys know their BBQ and everything tasted delicious without being overly heavy or too overdone. My favorite has to be the Tri-tip and the BBQ chicken, although it's easy to say that the real MVP is the BBQ sauce. Just enough sweetness to make anything you pour it on taste even better. And of the sides, the Brussel Sprouts and pesto pasta are the big winners. Just cooked and seasoned to perfection. Even the mashed potatoes was special. It's almost has a cheesiness quality that I thought it may be Mac and cheese. It just compliments the proteins very well. If there are any weaker dishes, they would be the brisket (need a bit more seasoning) and the garlic bread (not garlicky enough), but they are minor setbacks. First time here, and it smells delicious. I'm not even inside yet. OMG, amazingly delicious!!! I arrived at the location 15 minutes before they opened and must say they were already preparing food. While taking a picture of the front entrance, I could already smell the smoked BBQ. As I entered the restaurant, the intensity of the BBQ aroma grew even more. I had mentioned that I had seen this huge BBQ burger on IG. The gentleman mentioned it was called the Ken & Joe's Spoke Wheel Funburger. I ordered that with a side of beer battered onion rings and a coke. I must say the burger itself is huge. It is also a must try and delicious. This is a very good thing as well as a bad thing in a great way. This burger has completely taken risen to the top of my favorite burgers of all time. It's a bit of a drive, but it so worth it! The burger itself is a Smashburger topped with smoked brisket, a beer battered onion ring, pepper jack cheese, jalapeno, red hot pepper relish, spicy BBQ, on a toasted garlic butter ciabatta bread (also a portion of the proceeds donated to St. Jude's Hospital). We've been getting coupons in the mail for this place and finally decided to give it a try tonight. We are so glad we did! I got the classic funburger meal. My husband got the 3 brisket tacos. We also ordered the garlic Parm crispy wings to share. My Burger was simple but perfect. The fries that came with it were a crispy-seasoned type of fry. The bun was soft and the Fries were hot/fresh. Loved it. Unfortunately they ran out of brisket for the brisket tacos. They asked if we would be okay with tri-tip instead. My husband agreed, But he wasn't a fan of the tacos. Funburger is great especially if you're going with a bigger group - this place is huge! They have so much seating and entertainment (arcade, bar, and large screens for viewing sports games) and a lot of different options on their menu so there's something for everyone (including kids!). The mac n cheese was my favorite and our entrees were well seasoned. Loved the corn on the brisket tacos. Meat was on the drier side so I recommend asking for extra sauce. Funburger was kind of fun but not our favorite of similar places. We're vegetarians so always excitded and appreciative when a burger restaurant offers an option for us. Funburger has a Beyond patty available, so we were in! My wife had the Beyond Fun Burger with a gluten free bun. (Thus ticking all of her boxes.) I had the BBQ Fun Burger (with a Beyond Patty). Both were good. The fries were not great..coated (which we don't like) and definitely overcooked. I liked that there were plenty of different kinds of beer options on draft. They've got a ton of things on their menu...maybe too much...pizzas, ribs...all kinds of things beyond what you'd expect from a burger place...that may be appealing to some but gave me the impression a little bit like they're just throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks...the atmosphere and design of the dining rooms was a little all over the place too...a kind of sad, very minimal, arcade set up in one of the rooms. All in all a little too brightly lit. The service was okay...the staff was friendly enough but also young and you get the sense (especially if you're getting all crazy and ordering vegetarian patty's on burgers or doing anything out of the box) that it's not quite what they're used to and it takes a little extra time and questions to make sure they've got down what you want. Attended a fabulous Yelp event here the other night. Almost didn't go because I just wasn't sure about this place because the name Funburger didn't speak to me, but I'm thankful I joined because that night I discovered my new favorite BBQ spot. Funburger's bbq is the real deal. Meats are expertly prepped in advance- rubbed and marinated days in advance before being smoked or bbq's. They have an in house pit master. All of their bbq is then finished off in their Santa Maria all wood smoker. I didn't find their meats to be too salty, flavor was on point. The meat was so tender and delicious. The bbq sauce was soooooo good delicious perfect spicy flavor. Please don't change that recipe!!! Normally I do not care for bbq brisket because it's usually dry and tough- I tried their brisket and I would come to Funburger just for their tritip. It was so tender, almost comparable to a prime rib. The beef rib was also divine, so was their grilled chicken. The tritip though, wow. I never thought I'd ever care for a brisket but funburger's brisket is something else. If you're a brisket connoisseur then I think you have to try this one. They have, what feels like, 20 beers on tap. It's a nice blend of regional, local and big name beers, and they're always rotating them out. Ambiance is actually quite surprising inside, tall ceilings, lofty feel. Huge big screen perfect for watching the World Series. Plenty of seating. Gorgeous patio which I'm sure is welcoming for clean and well behaved doggies. Expert tips: you can request to have your burger finished on the Santa Maria smoker. Ask for their catering menu, they have some really good options and pricing is beyond competitive- I thought I was seeing 2013 prices considering the quality and sophistication of their bbq. Next time I have a party I'm getting some bbq trays from here. Also there's a really cute arcade and private event room in the back. Great for parties, company events. They did not spare any expense on this restaurant. I love going to places like this where they are adequately staffed/ supported, they invest heavily in their kitchen and the dining experience is also fully curated. The Fun Burger Cheese Bomb was the BOMB! The meat was super tasty, moist, cooked perfectly and did I say delicious? I think this was a 1/3 pound burger. The produce was fresh and I believe their sauce is 1000 island dressing. I'd definitely put this on my going to get it again list. Only $12 Those chili cheese fries were absolutely remarkable with a generous amount of chili and cheese. They didn't hold back on the toppings. The fries were crispy, so you had time to eat it without it getting soggy. $8 Definitely have to try that root beer float. They use soft serve ice cream so it definitely has a different flavor than your typical root beer float. I believe that was only $7. FYI, came here at 8 PM on a weekday when no one was here. Service, cleanliness, and the food were excellent! This place is not expensive. Food prices have reason, so expect to pay more than you did during the pandemic. Special kudos to the young man (didn't get his name but he's Hispanic and has a rad nose piercing) who provided exemplary service despite the busy Friday night rush. I was initially excited to visit this place after seeing all the hype on social media. I was very disappointed to say the least, ugh where to begin. Upon arrival it was confusing weather to sit at a table or order form the counter. There should be some kind of visual indication to order before having a seat. The highlight of the night was the flight of beers that I enjoyed before the disaster that was to come. First the table was dirty, we had to wipe it down ourselves. The condiment bottles were empty , ketchup, hot sauce and mustard. The napkin dispenser was empty and the table was uneven. I started to look around at all the other parties and noticed the same thing, folks were walking around looking for napkins. Then the food arrived, first the onion rings and green beans came out. Both were severely overcooked and saturated with oil.The sides of ranch that accompanied the food completely watered down and runny. I was hoping that the two burgers would redeem the mediocre appetizers , boy was I wrong! The signature burgers was supposed to be the crown jewel of the menu but it was more like the microwaved White Castle burger from Costco. The patty was very undercooked and soggy, the lettuce and fixings were drenched in water or something that made the burger fall apart after one bite. My neighbor raved about this restaurant so I promised to check it out You walk in and you instantly are put into a good mood. It's decorated so fun and there are different areas within this restaurant. One side is sports bar with big screens. Another part is for gamers. Another is for those that want to sit and eat and enjoy. The bathrooms are fairly clean and the rest of the restaurant is very clean. I previously left a 3 star review that I would like to take back. We have been back many times since my posting and every interaction since has been great. The original 3 stars were due to a lag in service but it seems the kinks have been worked out and I really enjoy this restaurant. The food is all great, love the beer flights, and the family packs are a bargain and a go to for us now. We order them all the time as they cost less than drive through but are a lot of tasty food. Cali Fun Burger: I really enjoyed this burger. There was some element of crispiness in the bun, which was very nice. You can tell that their ingredients are fresh, and good qualities. Fries: My bar for fries is McDonald's, and I think this one beats it! I like the crispiness and flavor, it was almost irresistible. The ambience was nice and casual. Service was much better than the first time I tried this place, but seems like the food quality has gone down. Pulled pork sandwich had a cheap bun and barely any flavor. The spicy baked bean were terrible. Sweet potato fries had barely any flavor or seasoning. Were completely soggy from just a 10 minute drive. The chicken in the chicken caesar salad wrap tasted and looked burned. The tortilla was dry and there was barely any caesar dressing. I love the concept of the game area for the kids, but at $1 a play for most games, and most of said games not working, I feel like that area needs a major revamp. Back to FunBurger & BBQ this weekend after a very positive previous elite experience. This time, I went for the BBQ beef brisket tacos and garlic parmesan fries. The tacos are divine, very flavorful and very yummy. The fries were pretty good as well. Ice cold beer on tap like last time and served in a frosty glass! The service was impeccable!! They really do customer service here at a high level. The younger adults here are very customer service oriented, great job! Wow!! this is one of the best restaurants in SCV! They get all their beef from a local rancher and it is amazing quality. That alone sets them apart.
