It's a nice classic theater, nice design on the wood carving and overall old but classic feel. what i would expect of an old theater/ auditorium feel. my granddaughter performed there and it was a nice performance. i didnt get to see the upstairs, i only spectated the play of kids. i'm glad they use it for local school performances, etc. read more

This is a very nice venue. The aesthetics take you back to the years of past. Although small it is very welcoming. As you arrive and once inside you are welcome by beautiful architecture. The exposed beam interior only makes this theatre more inviting. The theatre is clean and somewhat well maintained. There was a restroom problem on the day we attended. If you look hard the location does show it's age. But don't let that fool you. This venue has good bones and provides a pleasing experience. From the balcony, the view is good. The sound could use some updating. The volume although adequate was not accompanied by a sound quality deserved by the wonderful production. What an adorable theater! I took my sister to see The Sound of Music here. We got middle front balcony seats and they were perfect. The theater itself is cute. I am not a huge fan of musicals but the way the show was done kept me entertained. Our show was amazing, but I can imagine any production to go well if done here. It's smaller, but not too small. The seats are comfortable and it feels intimate inside. Everything older, but not run down. My complaints was the wait for restrooms upstairs during intermission. The bathroom upstairs only had 2 stalls. Downstairs had 5 I think. I also did not like that you cannot eat inside, but that is why the prices for the show are fairly cheap. There is no cleaning crew needed. Our prices for the show was very reasonable and I am very happy we went. I would definitely watch another production done here again. There is plenty of parking across the street in the parking structure. read more

I came here for the 1st time with my husband this past Saturday for the 2 PM showing of Shrek The Musical. My husband and I enjoy seeing shows (musicals, plays, variety acts, comedy, etc) and so I thought it would be great to check out this musical. This theater is really nice for a high school theater, in which there are both an orchestra and balcony seating section. We sat in the orchestra section, row U. Even though we were much further back, we were still able to see the stage just fine. The seats were padded and comfortable (The one husband and wife sitting next to us had mentioned to us that the seating upstairs are not quite as comfortable). I just wished the seating was stadium seating. But I was lucky to not have any tall people blocking my view or my husband's at least. There are restrooms for both men and women upstairs, but I only used the one downstairs. There are about 5 stalls in the woman's room and they are pretty small, so the line during intermission, before and after the show can get a bit long. By the way, there is a parking structure right across the street from the theater and it is free on weekends. Also, make sure you bring a jacket or sweater because the theater can get pretty cold inside. read more

Such a beautiful auditorium!! When visiting Plummer, make sure you look up at the gorgeous detail on the ceiling and check out all the details in the architecture of this building as well. Such a great place! I've seen several plays here throughout my lifetime, I'm especially impressed with the high school productions that perform! Absolutely amazing! Of course La Habra High School is the very best (wink... yes, I'm an alum) Every seat is pretty much perfect and the actual chair/seat itself is comfy and plenty of legroom (in the ones I've sat in anyway). I've never felt cramped while enjoying a show. The lines for the restroom are always long, but that is to be expected at these types of venues. I do appreciate that while the building is very old, the bathrooms are in nice condition and always are clean and well kept. The staff has been magnificent too; friendly and helpful. Best place to park is across the street in the structure, it's free and just a short walk in the crosswalk. I love this piece of history and all the beauty (and talent) that it brings. Thank you!! Wow! Thank you Groupon! I paid $15 per person for a $34 Front row balcony seat. I just saw the "Wizard of Oz" 10/15/11 from 3-D THEATRICALS (www.3DTShows.com) and it was AMAZING! Granted, I was expecting a college level stage production for a $15 per person ticket. Boy, was I in for an excellent surprise. I could not believe how professional the sets were along with great visual/audio effects (there was fire and steam and explosions). The singing and dancing choreography was thoroughly enjoyable. The actors/actresses sang in tune and frequently sounded exactly like people from the original movie version of "The Wizard of Oz". Even the children actors were professional. The costumes were bright and beautifully detailed. Since the aristochratic mission-style Plummer Auditorium only has a 1500 seat capacity, I think any seat in the auditorium would make you feel up close and personal. Free Parking in a nearby lot across the street. No eating/drinking in the auditorium. Small bathrooms so you have to move fast to get there before the long lines. . FYI: My 6year-old daughter was laughing her head off at the hilarious parts and singing along with the well-known "Wizard of Oz" tunes. She gave 3-D THEATRICALS' version of the "Wizard of Oz"....Two million points out of 100 points. Yes, I am partly writing this review because I felt kinda bad to see only 30-40% of this auditorium filled; But the cheap part of me really wants all you YELPERS out there to know that this was an awesome 3-4 hour play (The Wizard of Oz will only be in Fullerton's Plummer Auditorium from Oct 14-30, 2011) was well worth the full ticket price. I didn't realize my cousins' old high school was so beautiful. Saw Shrek, the musical here. At the last minute, I found out it was held at a high school auditorium, so I wasn't expecting much. When I stepped inside I was amazed! It reminded me of Hogsworth (from Harry Potter). Iron chandeliers on the vaulted ceiling and columns along the left and right walkways. I was reminded of the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse (except smaller). We sat in Row R middle. You can see the faces of the actors, but not super clear. No stadium seating, so a person sitting in the front may block your view (that's the reason for the minus 1 star) because the lady in front of me had a child w/ her and kept on moving. :( Most children couldn't see from their seats, so they were sitting on a parent's lap. Bring a booster seat if you can. The set design was great. It transitioned flawlessly even if it wasn't the motorized types you see in larger performing arts centers. There was no reminder of "no flash photography," so even though I wished to snap a pic of the performers using my iPhone, I didn't because no one did. Signs outside said no food or drinks allowed inside, but after the intermission I noticed people sneaking in snacks sold outside the auditorium. There is no bag check, so you can sneak in snacks. Parking was free on weekends (structure across the street). Don't park near the entrance where people walk in because you'll have a hard time rearing your car out at the end of the show. The women's restroom have plenty of stalls, but the lines are still long. It gets cold in there once in awhile when the AC blasts, so bring a jacket. Come early with a camera to take pictures at the beautiful school. Beautiful backdrops of columned walkways and a huge grassy lawn. Makes great family pictures. If you're hungry, McDonalds is a short walk down the street. read more

I LOVE musicals, especially when they are affordable and 3D Theatricals productions at the Plummer Auditorium provide Broadway quality ones at a fraction of the price you would pay at other places. The building is historical and unique so I decided to do some research: Designed by architect Carlton M. Winslow and constructed for $295,500 in 1930, the Plummer Auditorium is an outstanding example of Spanish Colonial Revival architecture with Italian Renaissance design elements (http://www.ci.fullerton.ca.us/visitors/historical_places/plummer.asp). There is actually space between the rows of chairs (not as cramped as other historical theaters). The only downside is the small lobby area (box office is actually outside under a tent) and small restrooms with about 5 stalls which make lines during intermission very long. So far, I have seen the Addams Family and Beauty and the Beast and absolutely loved both of them. I happened to see both of them years ago in NYC and the actors, sets and costumes here were just as good. Parking is free at the structure right across. Their exit doors are wide which allow for some fresh air and quick exit during intermission and at the end. I am definitely a fan! read more

This theater is beautiful, no question. This was my first time here this past weekend to see my nieces dance at their annual Polynesian summer dance show. Parking structure was across the street (adequate size). During the weekend and after 5 pm weekdays, parking is free. This theater has a great amount of seats, including seats upstairs in the balcony. However, the staff is far less than satisfactory. Someone took our seats, and when we confronted the staff- they just recommended that we "find seats elsewhere, perhaps upstairs", instead of actually doing their job and resolving the issue. The staff, in general too, was just flat out rude. None of them smiled, greeted you, or even offered assistance. If I had to rate this theater based solely off customer service, I'd give it 1 star, because you can't go any lower on Yelp. However, the theater itself is nice, and kept in nice condition. read more

I went to see Avenue Q from 3-D THEATRICALS (http://www.3DTShows.com) at Plummer Auditorium. I wasn't expecting much since I knew it was at Fullerton High School but I was impressed. They had headset microphones. The puppets were from Broadway. The performers were great. The musical was awesome. If you enjoy dirty puppets or something along that genre, check out Avenue Q. You can find tickets on Goldstar or Groupon for less than advertised. We had discounted tickets but our seats were Front Orchestra, Row H. Pretty awesome. Support your local arts! read more

I'm with Tabitha L. I drove to the theater only to find out the show RENT wasn't going on.... along with dozens of other cars. Called ahead to reserve a seat and sat on hold for 45 minutes with no recording about the cancellation. The ticket website was still selling seats for the next days shows. Best part is getting the groupon notification email 2 days after the show was to begin. People plan to go to shows for special occasions, weekend evening outs. I heard the news from someone who took her friend here to celebrate her birthday. A paper sign and a canned email (after the fact) is terrible customer service and doesn't quite make up for it. read more

Since 1930, this theater has been a great place to have some entertainment for a cool community and fits really well in downtown. The theater is ran by Fullerton Civic Light Opera. In the past decade plus, I have seen singing in the rain(two times my favorite play in the whole wide world), wizard of oz, big river, miss saigon and many, many more. It appears that the auditorium can seat over 1,000 people and it can get jam packed. I have to be honest and say that due to them keeping the original layout and most of the original construction it is tight seating. They also have the original wrought iron chandeliers!!! If anyone knows me they know how much I adore chandeliers. Get dressed up and go catch a play for sure. Support the theater so they can keep their tickets reasonable. Parking is free around Fullerton too. read more

A posh red-velvet theatre from a great time past. Relax in the luxury of a nice upholstered chair, gaze up at the ornate ceiling and ornamented walls and fixtures. I've been here for a couple of shows, one show was on the border of being awful the other was amazing. It's a hit or miss on the quality that is produced by the Fullerton Civic Light Opera, but you can't beat the price, the parking or the quaintness of this venue. Unfortunately quaint here means the crampest most uncomfortable seats on the planet. Dcor and construction is a bit dated - but again, what it lacks for in comfort it is made up for in the lack of everything else, like long lines and long waits to leave the FREE parking lot. Smaller theaters such as this cater to an older crowd so be prepared to smell ben gay and all the other "old" smells, you know what they are. Be prepared as usual for long bathroom lines, but note that they're not long because of the people, they're long because they've only got 2 stalls and one sink for the girls restroom upstairs! read more

We just got back from seeing "Funny Girl" which was phenomenal. This is not high school production as others have mentioned. They just use the same theater. This is my second year being a subscriber to Plummer Auditorium. My mom (87) moved here 2 years ago and loves the theater so we also go to La Mirada Theater ( see that review as well). First the theater is old and elegant. The only thing missing is a lobby that you can wait in.The bathroom situation is silly but they do give an adequate time during the intermission. Parking across the street is free on Sunday (when we go). The productions are first rate. Just as good as Broadway (and my mom and I have been to many broadway productions). We just saw King & I and were blown away by the singing, costums, staging and the live orchestra. Personally I enjoy the casualness of the audiences attire. I wore jeans. I cannot believe how lucky I am to live so close to two great theaters. read more

We love this place. It's close to where we live and we saw a great production of The Drowsy Chaperone there. Sally Strothers was in the production, which was fun. Interesting staff...There are some really quirky people here. When I was in high school, the staff would freak out about the parking. If you parked on the loading dock, even if you had a handicapped placard and needed to park in the handicapped stall there, they would leave nasty notes on the car and make your life miserable. I have performed here at least 20 times and the staff management are usually complete jerks. There are a few of the lower guys that are quite friendly though, like someone named Daniel. Anyway, they usually get some great performances in there whether from the school or through private or city groups. The architecture is beautiful. Very historic part of Fullerton. read more

Quaint, yes, quaint little theater - it was open enough, but intimate enough to see the actor's faces and set details without being stuffy or vast... juuuussst right! (with apologies to Goldilocks). :) We enjoyed a really great performance of "A Chorus Line" and had front row seats this time around! Very comfortable seating, limited facilities (bathroom, etc.), small lobby, yet; you have to think that this was built in 1930, so set your expectations to the need of the time, with updates through the years, and you'll realize they've done pretty good to keep it as clean and classic as it is! We have been to Plummer Auditorium a few times, and the theater itself is grand. It is a great venue for the shows the Fullerton Civic Light Opera puts on, however the shows have not impressed me, they are as expensive as going in to LA or to the OC performing arts center, but the quality of acting/singing/performing is not nearly as good. I like the idea of people dressing up to go the the theatre as Eric G. suggests, however everyone dresses so casual it would really be uncomfortable and out of place to do that. Also, they say the theater is haunted. I have not had any experiences along this line, but a friend who is an amateur ghost hunter wants to spend the night inside with some equipment. read more

I love this theater!!! It was my second time here last Thursday night. I saw Beauty and the Beast (and awhile back I saw Shrek). The theater itself is really nice. It's really clean and beautiful and there's actually space between rows for people to walk by. The seats are spacious and comfy. The stage is large. There is free parking across the street. The bathrooms are small, but clean. The production company, actors, etc that put on plays and musicals here as fantastic. They all have amazing singing voices. Cute theater connected to Fullerton High School. Don't expect anything like Segerstrom or Pantages, but I watched Avenue Q here and I thoroughly enjoyed it. They had the original set and puppets so I thought that was pretty spiffy. I sat in Orchestra Row N and had a great view. My friends sat in the balcony area and they said the leg room was much smaller than the orchestra area. Bathrooms are small. No food or drink allowed here so be prepared, however, they don't check your bag prior to entering so I guess you could sneak in food if you really wanted to. I was hoping that the "will-call" tickets would be passed out on a first come first serve basis, however, when we got there, the tickets were already organized according to name and party so there's really no point in coming early since they make you wait outside. After reading the reviews in the OC Register of the "Wizard of Oz" production at Plummer Auditorium, my husband was convinced this would be would be fun for the family. We have a 14yr. old son & 6 yr. old daughter. We had balcony seats that were purchased online (my hubby doesn't know how to shop for bargains!). Regardless, this was a wonderful production! it was well worth paying the full price. Besides, it supports the Arts. Because my 6 yr old daughter had a full day of activities, i didn't think she would last the whole show. She surprised us... laughed, sang & applauded the entire time. During intermission, someone from the production staff told us that we could meet some of the cast after the show. Almost 11pm... and my daughter (still wide awake), got to meet the actress who played "Dorothy". She talked about it on the way home and woke up the next morning acting out her favorite parts of the show. Loved the Auditorium! The lobby is quite small. During intermission, most people went outside for concessions. We will definitely return for another production! read more

Just saw 3-D Theatricals production of Sound of Music at the Plummer. Professional actors/singers with beautiful sets, costuming, and high production values. The Plummer is a nice old theater (yes the lobby and restrooms are small as others have stated but the theater is quite beautiful) and 3-D does musicals very well. I have no affiliation with 3-D, but will confess that my granddaughter was in the cast. Weight my review accordingly, but downtown Fullerton is a nice place for dinner and the theater. For those who love musicals 3-D does a great job producing them. Parking was free in a covered garage right across the street from the theater on Friday evening. read more

We were treated to a wonderful day - it's an old theater (for California that's unique) - the Sears were comfortable, the lighting was just right and the sound system amazing. Not even a call to let people know that their event RENT was cancelled. We drove over an hour to this venue only to have a "sorry, not sorry" sign posted on their doors. My daughter was devastated and I'm so upset! We will never come back to this place and we plan on telling everyone not to as well.
