He also told me he was going to turn me in to the housing commission. He also lied and said it was against the law to work on the furnace when the heat exchanger is how it was. My 2nd opinion confirmed that was also a lie and that he'd just need to turn off the gas to the furnace to inspect it. They just keep digging themselves deeper and deeper. Today Russ tried to scam me into a new furnace. He claimed that he couldn't do any further evaluation on the furnace because the secondary heat exchanger was too dangerous and that most people just replace the whole furnace at that point. My antenna went up when he didn't make sense about why he couldn't evaluate the furnace further because of the heat exchanger needing replacing even though it was still functional. He didn't have any pricing on the heat exchanger or a new furnace and he never followed up with the pricing on either of them. I had a 2nd opinion and it was just the filter had been sucked into the fan. An easy, low cost fix. My 2nd opinion confirmed they were trying to scam me and that nothing else was wrong with the furnace or the secondary heat exchanger.
