This last visit, I ordered whitebait followed by steak and chips. Absolutely fabulous! The beer choices here are good with a number of different types of beer on tap. They do know how to make a tasty cappuccino as well. Parking shouldn't be a problem. If you are a tourist and not used to English country lanes, getting here might be a real challenge. Maybe you should take the bus or a taxi from Salisbury. Every time I've come here for lunch I've had a spectacular meal.

The pub bit isn't much different than most pubs. Loud music, sports on TV, regulars milling around. Oh, and they have a Star Wars pinball machine. Upstairs is a different world--for one thing, it's quiet. everything is pink and lacy and classical music is playing. It made for a lovely lunch. I had a baked potato and my husband had a veggie burger that he said was one of the best as far as veggie burgers go. Prices are a bit high both for food and drinks, but the atmosphere and cool people make it worthwhile.

The food was delicious, and the hosts friendly with good service. Highly recommend the indulgent lemon cheesecake. Well priced, good quality food with MASSIVE portions. The rooms are also wonderfully decorated with comfy beds, nice selection of teas, coffees and homemade biscuits along with fluffy towels and nice toiletries. The only trouble I had is that although it is in the middle of nowhere the road is quite busy and my room was nearest it and therefore very busy. Unfortunately as we had to be up at 5am we didn't get to try their breakfast but the selection looked fantastic. Bewarned if you arrive out of pub hours, they lock up and it can take a while to get someone to open the pub and check you in!

3.5 stars The…read moreBristol Evening Post put us onto this 'gastropub.' We have to thank the atrocious New Year's Day weather for helping keep the crowds away so we could get a table at lunch time at the last minute. (May be it was the above average prices that also made folks a bit shy?) The food got mixed reviews from our small group. My sister's fish and chips was deconstructed but not very memorable. Sam's pork chop was good, but oddly American in style due to the melted cheese topping. My chicken supreme was a safe bet and very tasty, but not particularly creative. This is a great restaurant pub (not a pub with food) as done have noted. The staff were really nice and even helped us order a taxi. The prices are on the steep side (£5+ more) compared to other pubs, so this is unlikely to be your regular spot unless you have a small appetite.

We were seated…read moreoutside in the heated marquee and I was a bit concerned we'd be chilly but it was really cosy and toasty in there. We were late for our booking and the staff were really nice and said the table's yours for as long as you want it, so don't worry. I had a tough decision to make between the beef and the lamb and the decider was whether they'd let me have a Yorkshire pudding - and they did! It also came with swede mash, red cabbage, green cabbage, carrots, roast potatoes and mint and cranberry jelly. You can pay for cauliflower cheese too so of course I went for that! The gravy is different depending on which meat you have, and that's a big tick for me - in the words of a Bristolian, proper job! The owners were in there getting stuck in with the work and the landlord was a real character. He said "the world needs more chaos" and he stood behind the bar (but the Sunday dining experience was far from chaotic and one of the most relaxed I've endured). We could see there was a projector and screen and I'd like to go back to watch a film out there. I think I suffered from a huge case of someone-bigged-this-up-too-much when visiting for an infamous Sunday roast yesterday. Everything was really lovely but I left feeling a bit disappointed and I can't put my finger on why.

They do my favourite Sunday roast in town (and there are plenty of great ones around) with sweet red cabbage, loads of juicy beef with horseradish and better roast potatoes than my Granny's (sorry Gran). And if you get there early enough they have every single Sunday paper for you to choose from (dam I have given away my secret). So you can sit reading the Sunday papers, drinking bitter (shandy) and eating an amazing roast dinner, followed up by their homemade desserts. I recommend the beef roast, but I've heard good things about the chicken. It is a popular pub for good reason, because that's just what it is, a very decent, honest pub with good food and drink and the best atmosphere around. They haven't had to become a Gastropub just to do great food; they just got a brilliant chef. You will always find a table outside; just make sure you huddle up under the heat lamps in the colder months. The garden is beautifully lit and you can smoke in it. But most people don't realise they have a huge area upstairs, where you can sit, eat, drink, sing & dance, which is usually a little bit warmer, unless this section is being used by local performers who put on shows here, which are open to the public. This is a pub unlike any other and an important part of Bristol's history, I would recommend it to anyone who wants to experience what a real pub should be like.

I have eaten pies, fish and chips and steak and chips. Each meal has been delicious. This visit, as I was not the driver, I could have a pint of beer. There were seven of us who ate and not only did we have dessert, we also had cappuccinos. Their after-lunch coffees are very tasty and round out a meal nicely. Our waitress was super efficient and remembered all our orders even though she didn't write anything down. There is a good-sized car park so you shouldn't have trouble parking. The road outside is a little narrow so drinking and driving is NOT recommended. This is a great place for a family meal or a business lunch.

Being a Bath Ales managed pub, it sort of reflects the qualities of similar Bath Ale run pubs, insofar as it has good character and is in a good location. Unlike some of the others (in Bristol anyway) it's actually quite large and being quite close to the Memorial Ground it attracts a large group of lager swilling Gas Heads on a Saturday afternoon. The food they serve is of the brasserie or ponced up British variety, but is fairly inexpensive for what you get (which is good). The other thing of note is the large garden which plays host to an annual music festival there and live music on Sunday evenings. With not a juke box, fruit machine or pool table in sight, it's an odd mix at times but a pretty decent boozer in my book.

With plenty of pubs and bars to choose from, it wasn't long before I stumbled across Bristol Ram. In a lot of ways, The Ram is a breath of fresh air on Park Street amongst the shiny, sexy bars and the garish, sleek clubs as it is just a regular, old fashioned pub. The service isn't particularly friend, and the atmosphere can be a little stale but they serve a descent pint at a reasonable price. I don't make a habit of coming to The Ram often, but if you're looking for a simple drink in simple surroundings - this is the place for you.

If they are trying to be somewhere in the middle, maybe it isn't portrayed very well. The food is pricey for what it is; for example a Pieminister pie that only costs £5 from the actual Pieminister shop not too far away costs £9.50 here, which I think is a complete rip off! There is live music here every Friday and Saturday evenings, which is always fully packed, but unfortunately the vibes here just aren't for me. This place is a big pub, suitable for those who want a pint when walking down Park Street, but I personally don't think I will come here again anytime soon.
