Nostalgia may play a big part in this review but I know that this place holds a special place in the hearts of locals. We went near the end of the night and they seemed to be out of most of their items. Tried hot and sour soup for the first time and really enjoyed it here! My husband and I work a lot and thought we would give this place a try since they are open now. We were both disappointed in the quality of the food. My husband ordered sweet and sour pork for his entree ( his was overcooked and he couldn't eat it.)I ordered the Broccoli and beef entree and mine was soggy like it had been sitting there all day. I couldn't eat mine. I had my husband try mine and he agreed. They deducted $6.00 and our 2 ice teas off of our bill. Each entree was $11.95... which seemed fair UNTIL we tasted our food! Our total bill was $ 23.00 AFTER the deductions!! The lady said," since we already cooked your food we have to charge you for it because we can't serve your food to someone else!" Oh and you might want to bring a coat or a jacket because they have both of their exterior doors wide open. Today's temperature is 57. Lastly, they are pretty stingy with their paper plates. They put two messy appetizers on one paper plate for you to share the plate. Needless to say... We will not be back!! Oh and the lady said, "everyone loves our food!" Want good Chinese food?? This place is definitely full of pros and cons. The restaurant looks like the back room of someone's house, but as I've learned eating Chinese food all over the country... this aesthetic is exactly what you are looking for when searching for good Chinese food. Much like the dining room, the presentation of the food leaves a lot to be desired. Everything is served on styrofoam with plastic utensils. Not sure if this is how it has always been, or if this is a COVID measure, but it really drags down the visual appeal. The food is cooked well, but they are definitely not adding the spice some dishes need to be correct. We had the Szechuan, and it was closer to sweet and sour, but still tasty... Just not Szechuan. Everything is a little too sweet, but it always comes out freshly cooked, and with fresh ingredients. After reading the reviews I went in with very few expectations, but this place exceeded them. This is my favorite Chinese restaurant of all time. I try to stop in whenever I am traveling through. We usually order the house special which comes with an entree, fried rice, soup, egg roll, crab Rangoon, and a spare rib. There is so much food! They let us share a few meals between us which gives us the chance to try different dishes. The taste is great and the staff and owners are always personable. The restaurant at itself is tucked into a strip mall with Subway and Dollar Tree. It's very easy to get into the parking lot and back out to I57 or right down the road from Rend Lake. The shrimp with Vegetables was excellent had lots large shrimp and the fried rice was great too, not greasy but could've used some onions and/or peas mixed in it, they did give out several fortune cookies too. I gave lower stars for my order (C7) since the chicken with sweet and sour was just a plain box of chicken nugget sized pieces with a large container of sweet & sour sauce that was missing the following ingredients..."topped with carrots, onions, green peppers and pineapple" and no eating utensils were included in the bag. There was no customers in the store when I arrived so I don't understand the forgotten ingredients. Should customers check for accuracy and quality of their order before leaving the establishment? My advice is to eat there during lunch when it's not as costly for missing vegetables. read more

This is possibly the worst Chinese restaurant I've ever eaten at. The hot sour soup was loaded with sugar and was inedible. We ordered the sesame chicken, which was also too sweet and was 75% breading. I know this place has been in business for years, but I can't imagine why. read more

Definitely one of the best American Chinese food restaurants around. I'm talking old school american Chinese, in all it's batter dipped, bright orange sweet and sour sauced glory. I had the dinner special, which comes with a spare rib, crab rangoon and a huge pork egg roll for your app, a choice of a cup of hot and sour soup or wonton soup, and an entree with your choice of white or fried rice. All this for only $10.95. And the portions are huge. I got the Mongolian beef, which was tasty with crunchy bits of deep fried rice noodles mixed in. Yum! The hot and sour soup was more sweet than sour, but it was def spicy and had good bits of mushrooms, wood ear (that weird looking black fungus stuff) and tofu, rather than the brothy concoctions you find elsewhere. The hubs doesn't even like egg rolls but he ate half of mine and his own. In the end, we took enough home for another 2 meals. There were new people working there and they were super nice. Our waiter was waiting on all the tables and that dude was basically running to each one. He was super efficient. Forget the all you can eat buffets and head out to the Full Moon House, in the Rural King plaza in Benton. read more

We ordered something with waitresses recommendation, but that was even sweeter. Even their sweet and sour soup was too sweet, but not sour. However, the service was really good. Best Chinese I've had...and I've been around the block to a lot of Chinese joints. No buffet here...all cooked fresh and cooked to order. Lunch prices are rock bottom and you get a pile of food. Driving thru southern Illinois and had a hankering for Chinese food. Found this spot on yelp and read a few glowing reviews. Decided to give it a chance. I wish we hadn't. The food was gross. Brown wonton soup was a bad start. Loaded with soy sauce. The Mongolian beef was disgusting. My friend took one bite and couldn't touch it again. The meat in the lo mein was soft and gummy, and it was so greasy. The fried items were also not pleasant to eat. Then to top it off I got an empty fortune cookie. On a positive note, the waitress was friendly and brought my friend his jacket out to the car after he left it in the restaurant. read more

I've always enjoyed my food at Full Moon. Crab Rangoon is among the best I've had anywhere. I'd suggest the Sweet and Pungent chicken or General Tso's. Be sure to emphasize if you like spicy, the dishes marked spicy on the menu are still pretty mild as they come, at least to my taste. read more
