Another long time family business that I love so much. I love going out here to pick strawberries…read more The fields are packed with plants bearing ripe fruit and some interesting "weeds" like lamb's quarter and chamomile. No sprays used here. Compare that to the videos of people in moon suits spraying commercial strawberry fields. A nice young man directed us to the best picking place. Asked if we wanted a ride on a wagon, as the area we were going to was at the far end of the field. We declined, we're not that far gone....yet. We picked a six quart flat in about 20 minutes. It was like a treasure hunt, searching for gems tucked into the greenery. Weighed and paid by a chatty and pleasant lady. Late June to early July is the strawberry season hereabouts. Of all the places to get berries right now, I prefer Greiling's. I like their attitude, spirituality, and philosophy on agriculture. Tonight I'll eat strawberries until I break out in hives. A small price to pay for such a pleasure.

They gave me about 30lbs back for nearly $150!!! Told me that was everything! Ground packaged in 1.5 lb increments which makes no sense. Steaks packaged nicely but no indication of separate back straps so who the hell knows. Either this place is holding onto your extra meat or they too sloppy to give you what they should. The first thing you see when you walk in is the hand crafted bird feeders, houses, and lawn decorations. Then there's the table with the homemade pies. I walked by the deli where they will slice meats and cheeses to go on the homemade bread which they also make. You can find literally everything from soup to nuts there. They sell many things in bulk. Rice, beans, flour, and corn meal. I saw a bag of oatmeal the size of a small hay bale. The prices here are very reasonable. I bought a dozen eggs for $1.89, and a package of 6 everything bagels for $1.99. I will be back frequently to shop for staples and some specialty items.

First things first. Their maple syrup is fantastic! We were excited to whip up a batch of pancakes…read morethis morning to give it a try. Inthewoods Sugar Bush is a Wisconsin based maple syrup producer. They're located just outside of Manitowoc. There is not a sign out front (that we saw), but find the address (it's clearly posted) and drive on in. The sugar shack itself has a small retail section where you can buy not just maple syrup, but also maple syrup goodies: candy, soda, and other tasty treats. Their facility is beautiful. Their stainless steel equipment shined. This is definitely a well run operation and they clearly take their maple syrup production seriously. We had a great visit. We were greeted by 2 friendly golden retrievers. The owner greeted us and he was very friendly and helpful. He answered our questions and gave us a quick tour of their production facility. We intend to go back next spring during production. Maple syrup is one of those little luxuries in life. Why settle for corn syrup based when you can have something locally made? Especially when the producer is so enthusiastic about their product. Check this place out. If you can't get up there, you can still buy their syrup at your local Meijer (in Wisconsin).
