I have spent most of my life finding ways to enjoy working out. I've joined gyms, had personal trainers, and joined Zumba classes. Remember Curves...yup, did that too. I tried 5 AM workouts, lunch workouts and workouts you can do while you sleep. So, you can say that I am an expert in "looking" for the right work out. It wasn't until I joined Power Kickboxing (PK) when I finally realized what I was supposed to be looking for all along. THE RIGHT TEACHER AND TRAINER COMBINED. The right teacher can guide you mentally and a good trainer can help optimize your physical power, speed, and strength. Power Kickboxing is spearheaded by a woman who believes in leading by example. Junko Adler will never expect you to do something she doesn't do herself. Having a family with two young boys and opening up a studio didn't slow down her own training routine. Junko's personal workout schedule is definitely not for the weak. She travels an hour and a half each way to her trainer. She does it because she is dedicated to doing what it takes to maintain success. She is passionate about sharing what she accomplished with people who want to make a lifestyle change mentally and physically. PK studio is small and intimate. At first glance, most people who are used to being in a gym-like facility may turn away. It's because there is nowhere to hide! Junko is determined for you to succeed. If you want to "hide", then it's not the environment for you. The clients she attracts are the ones who truly want to learn and make a change for themselves. These are people who want to be corrected on their forms, want to be pushed to their limits, and want to learn how to connect their mental resources with their bodies. Her clients often become as passionate about their own wellbeing as Junko is with her own training. Junko believes that every person that walks in her studio has the capacity and potential to overcome their obstacles. You may start with shy movements, then the next thing you know you are uncovering your own strength and motivation because you figured out how to believe in yourself. The advantage of being in a small setting is that you get more for your money compared to other kickboxing gyms. The smaller group setting allows Junko more one-on-one time with you, so it's like having semi-private sessions. There is quality in every minute you are there. The level of experience with people who join varies from beginner to advance. Junko will instruct you on what to do base on your level. She will take you to the next level when you are ready. You may see her "pick on someone" when she is pushing that person to their potential. You may also see her slow it down for an advance person so that they perfect their form. There is one thing you should always expect and that is to burn out all the energy you have by the time class ends and sweat like you are in a sauna! Power Kickboxing is open to everyone who just wants to pay-by-day or purchase packages. Packages do come with an expiration date. This policy was created to help the client and not so much a business strategy. As I said earlier, PK is open to everyone and geared for success. When you buy a package that means you are investing in yourself. You are setting a goal and having an expiration date makes you accountable to that promise you made to yourself. Junko also has your goal in mind and will go beyond your expectations of a trainer ... but you have to meet her halfway. I'm pretty real and straight forward. With that said, at 48 years old I will never "love" exercising. However, finding someone who is as dedicated to my results as I am and a place that makes me feel that I truly matter makes the word "exercise" seem secondary.

The workout is intense but Junko is really good at modifying on an individual basis. I am not the most coordinated person and sometimes I get confused and I have to stop to regroup and I never feel like I'm being judged. There is so much positive energy in the room. It is a full body workout and leaves a different part of me feeling sore every week. I leave feeling strong and confident. Music is great and the workout goes by really fast because it takes a lot of focus. If you do this workout consistently you will be in great shape. Highly recommend!

    After pulling myself out of an inactive, unmotivated run, I finally decided to get back into a…read morehealthy workout routine. I saw that Club Pilates offered a free intro course so I signed up online. I got a call that same day to schedule the course. I have never done Pilates before so I was a little nervous but the ladies in reception and the instructor were so welcoming and encouraging. I got lucky and basically got a private session since the other people who signed up didn't show. The instructor was very knowledgeable and made sure my form was good so I wouldn't hurt myself. She gave me the run down of terminology and equipment use in the 30 minutes we had. Afterwards, sign up was an easy decision. The receptionists made sure I knew how to use their app to schedule classes. I'm only 2 classes in but I've had 2 different instructors. I let both of them know I was new. They made sure to check on me throughout the class and helped me whenever I needed it - completely judgement free. When you initially sign up, you have a 3 month commitment and they have different plans and prices depending on how many classes you want to take per month. The receptionists will call/text to make sure you use your points before the month ends because the points don't roll over. Needless to say, I love it so far!

I also love the intensity of the classes, they're challenging, effective, and I always feel stronger afterward. The instructors truly make a difference. Hannah, Alecia, and Eleanor are all fantastic, knowledgeable, motivating, and attentive. Their cueing and energy keep classes engaging, and they consistently create great workouts. My one wish is that there was more of a sense of community. While the workouts themselves are great, the overall vibe can feel a bit transactional at times, and I'd love to see more opportunities for connection among members. Overall, it's a solid studio with excellent instructors and well-structured classes, and with a stronger community feel, it could be even better.
