The review from Bernadette P. in 2009 is SO very accurate. I mean, I've been inked and pierced in this place and the attitude absolutely stinks. I wasn't old enough to know a time when their attitude didn't stink so I can't say what it was like before, but honestly the conduct in here is awful.
I went in here with a couple of friends when we were 17, we were getting a nipple piercing each. We filled in the forms with our details. That afternoon, one of my friends got a friend request on Facebook from one of the guys at the studio, who was like 25 years old at the VERY minimum. He wasn't the guy who pierced her, but the guy who handed us the forms, and had used the forms to get her information to try and add her, after seeing her ID that said she was 17 years old. And honestly she looked about 14 years old back then. So gross. This would have been 2009.
The second time I went in there in 2012, my friend wanted a tattoo consultation. Her first tattoo, we were 20 at the time, and she wanted some writing and was interested in fonts and things. Generally she just wanted a 20 minute conversation with someone. She made it clear when she went in that she wanted to talk about booking a tattoo, could she talk to someone about what she wanted. She described what she wanted, they showed her a book of lettering and then honestly about five minutes later, she gets a clipboard shoved in her face. She told the man that she hadn't decided and she was going to make a decision, then book for a future time. He told her and I quote (I'll never forget it) "Then you're wasting our time, you could just do it now."
I had already had a tattoo before, my first tattoo was a medium sized back tattoo, and this was NOT the experience I had had, in a different venue. I had been given the time to discuss what I wanted, showed them ideas and they hand drawn ways they thought they could improve the design etc. A back and forth proper discussion about what I was getting. They said it would take 2 hours, it took 4 because I had let him add some freehand stuff to it and they gave me a discount because it was my first tattoo and had taken longer. The experience was fantastic, and the way it should always be. (La Familia tattoo studios in Newquay, Cornwall). She went to fill out the form in this place purely out of embarrassment, I snatched it out of her hand, shoved it back in his and marched her straight out the door. Etiquette like that is NOT okay. She didn't ever get the tattoo in the end. This shows that the experience had ruined it for her, but it also tells me she would have been pressurised by some wank into paying £80 for something she didn't want.
The only time I succumbed to getting a tattoo in there, was when I had a design that I had drawn myself, a small wrist tattoo, and being impatient I just wanted it done. I went in there and said "I want this." and they did it in fifteen minutes, in and out the door just because they happened to be local. But to be honest I feel bad I even gave them that business and I will never set foot in the place again. The most conversation I had was when one of the staff decided to tell me that Ed Sheehan had been inked there. I mean.. seriously. Haha.
If you know exactly the design that you want, and where you want it, and you just need a clean place where you can get it done, then feel free to go in there. Can't imagine what there prices would be these days but whatever.
If you're interested in getting something done thats interesting or unusual or a bigger project, something that needs input from an actual artist, honestly it is so worth it to go elsewhere. There are plenty of places in London that will treat you properly and give you the experience that you deserve. read more
