Just got back from the NYE Colombia trip with Daniel. He is incredibly kind, caring, and knowledgeable and my 2 star deduction has absolutely nothing to do with him. I had severe allergy issues throughout this trip and he escorted me to the pharmacy on different occasions including once at 11 PM. These trips are an investment so don't want to sugarcoat this review in any way. I know FTLO takes feedback seriously so I'm hopeful they will make changes for next year. I have no regrets and will absolutely travel with FTLO again Pros 1. Hotel in Medellin was absolutely fantastic from the rooftop pool to the breakfast buffet 2. Daniel who was an absolute gem of a guide. Shared his knowledge and expertise and looked out for all of us throughout the week 3. The drumming class was an unforgettable experience 4. Rum tasting was such a fun experience and I don't even like rum that much 5. Every single meal was incredible Cons 1. Was not aware what was removed from the itinerary with it being a NYE trip until it was too late to change my plans. 2. Boat for the Rosario Islands day was too small, it's amazing no one fell off. Was also somewhat challenging to get on and off if. 3. Hotel in Cartagena was moldy and made my room mate and I sick 4. The lady who ran the cooking class had questionable hygiene practices and the only cooking we actually did was rolling spring rolls 5. The FTLO Portugal trip was fantastic. From tile painting, to learning Portugal's history through a walking food tour, exploring the lush area of Sintra, a visit through charming Évora, a freshly prepared lunch on a stunning vineyard, and spending the last day in Lagos on a catamaran with unlimited wine and stunning ocean views...What more could someone ask for?! Our guide Ellie really helped cultivate a positive atmosphere. She was charming, friendly, knowledgeable of the area, kept us on time and was keenly attuned to the group's needs and interests. One of the nights she had planned an optional dinner, but instead offered us a unique opportunity to see live music and tasty appetizers in an intimate setting. I went on FTLO Scotland/Ireland and it was fantastic! This was my second FTLO trip with Megan as a trip leader and she did an amazing job cultivating a fun and meaningful experience for our group. Megan was very knowledgeable of Scotland's and Ireland's history/culture, but also allowed space for us to also learn from the various local guides. I appreciated her willingness to spend time with us during the free/optional times and she always had solid recommendations on places to eat or attractions to see. The activities themselves were great and had variety. I think there's something for everyone, whether that's exploring nature (Highlands, Cliffs of Moher), eating and drinking (scotch whiskey tasting), or learning history/culture (bagpipe workshop, Gaelic games). read more

If you're looking for the best tour guide in Costa Rica it was Dani! From start to finish, he made our trip absolutely incredible. Not only was he informative, but he was also so much fun, keeping the energy high and making every adventure feel special. Dani went above and beyond to ensure we had the best experience possible! His passion for Costa Rica is contagious, and you can tell he truly loves what he does. Dani gets 5 stars!!! I gave the trip 3 stars because of FTLOs planning. The first day after you land from flying all day you drive 2+ hours in traffic to your hotel to then wake up early and leave the next morning at 8am to drive back the same 2+ hours to go ziplining. Would have made more sense to stay near the zip line / airport the first night instead. The trip also didn't include a lot. It only includes the zip line , a surf lesson, and a brewery tour. My trip was awesome but only because I booked a turtle tour, kayaking, and white water rafting. There's so much wild life and adventure in Costa Rica and I feel like the trip should have been more adventurous. read more

Sign up. Just sign up. My first FTLO trip was Lapland in 2024 and it's going to be tough to beat. The itinerary was spot on, well organized, the group was an incredible family by the end, and our trip lead (Megan Arz) was terrific! We're talking dog sledding, snowball fights, lucky enough to see the northern lights dance across the sky, snowmobile racing, saunas with par plunges, and who can forget all the huts with fire experiences (you'll understand once you sign up). I've gone on a handful of group trips before, but FTLO takes the cake. Nice mix of activities, chill, and good people. I've already signed up for another later this year and an eyeing a few more! This was my 5th FTLO trip and it will most certainly be my last. The quality of the trips has gone downhill. This review is for the Crete trip but it applies to most of their other itineraries. 1) The hotels were subpar, especially the first one - that was selling online for $75/night. FTLO's story around "we use local hotels and we go to less traveled areas" is a bunch of malarkey given a quick Google search finds better hotels in the same town. 2) FTLO's strategy of taking you to a lesser quality town for one of the three stops to save money for them - it was the same way in Sardinia last summer. (Agios Nikolaus in Crete and Cala Gonone in Sardinia). 3) My rough math finds ~55-60% margin for FTLO's trips. I understand they spend time and money to curate a thoughtful itinerary, but a markup of this size (when combined with the subpar hotel quality) is unacceptable. Bottom line: good itineraries but the bang for your buck is not there. read more

LAPLAND: This was my third trip with FTLO and the Lapland trip was BY FAR the best one yet. I went with friends that I made on the last two trips and had an absolute blast. Our tour guide, Maddy, is truly incredible! She provided daily updates on the itinerary and useful recommendations on what to wear, which was crucial when the average temps were -20 degrees! The entire trip was worry-free (and relatively warm) thanks to Maddy's guidance.  We rode sleds pulled by adorable huskies and went snowmobiling. We met Santa in his village and crossed the arctic circle. We floated in thermal suits and enjoyed the views of the auroras. We did cold plunges and relaxed at multiple saunas. Plus, the sun is only up for a few hours a day so Maddy had wonderful suggestions to fill our downtime. She is so knowledgeable!  The best part of the trip was that Maddy worked her #MaddyMagic and we saw the Northern Lights not once, but TWICE on the trip! This trip had it all and it was easily the best one I've been on to date. I chose to do my first trip overseas with FTLO and I'm soooooo glad I did! I went to Basque Country for 7 nights. Jordana was the best travel host and made sure everything was arranged and perfect for our group, from walking and food tours, hotels, transportation, sights, activities and amazing meals!! She connected with each one of us individually and as a group. I couldn't have asked for a better guide and a friend for life! I had no idea what to expect and decided to really just put my whole trust in FTLO and it was the best decision ever. There was a perfect balance in our schedule of planned activities and free time. Even with our free time, Jordana gave us so many great suggestions that we would do individually, as a group or in smaller groups. It was a very easy group and everyone could be independent or together, just depending on how we were feeling. This trip taught me I CAN travel alone and I'm BETTER OFF traveling alone than going through one of these organizations that traps you and constrains your ability to enjoy YOUR vacation the way YOU want. Don't make the same mistake I did. GO ALONE. If you want some details... * You're not supposed to book your flights (even if there's a huge price drop) until the trip is "green lit," which I was told would be approx. 2 months out. My trip was green lit 54 days before my flight, at which time the flight prices had significantly increased. * I subsequently found out that even though my trip was "green lit," only 1 other person had signed up, and the trip wouldn't run if there wasn't a minimum of 5 people. So I then lived in a state of unknown (which was all around problematic) until 8 days prior to my departure, when I was told that after "chatting with the team," the trip is "100% confirmed." * I came to find out that my "group travel" experience consisted of myself and two other women who quickly became tied at the hip and made clear that my only role was to be something for them to text each other about when we were together as a group. * In terms of "included" food/drinks, all you can really count on is the breakfast that the hotel provides to all hotel guests every morning from 7-10am. At least our hotel (Hotel Diria) in Costa Rica did. It was a daily highlight. * Oh, and if you stay at the Diria, don't expect to be staying where the main hotel is, along the ocean. You'll be staying across the street, up a hill, through a guarded gate--all uncovered--which is quite inconvenient during the intermittent daily downpours. The trip leader, however, will be staying on the ocean side. * I could go on, like how you have to drive HOURS each way to get to the "included experiences," causing you to miss out on the beautiful Tamarindo sunsets; however, this experience has already wasted enough of my time. The Costa Rica trip was my second with FTLO and it was a blast! Our group went in late November 2023 and the weather was perfect for all our activities. The accommodations exceeded my expectations. Each day we had 1-2 major activities and group meals together but there was an ideal balance of available free time to explore on your own. Our trip leader Laura was extremely knowledgeable about the area and always offering guidance on where to go and what to do. She exemplified the pura vida spirit :) The group dynamic was great - we all got along well and always spent our free time together. The trip agenda also flowed smoothly and never felt exhausting or demanding. Laura's communication helped keep us organized and ready for each new day. I just returned from the Scotland/Ireland trip to celebrate my 25th birthday. This was my first trip abroad (pretty much my first time on an airplane). A friend of mine attended the Amalfi Coast/Puglia trip and recommended FTLO. I am so happy she did! From beginning to end, I loved the way the trip was curated and felt that I received a truly authentic experience. As someone that seeks to discover the "local" scene when traveling, none of the experiences felt like tourist traps. The group size (10) was perfect for connecting with each traveler on an individual level and also allowed restaurants to accommodate the group. I appreciate how FTLO works with the local community to find small businesses to support (hotels, restaurants, tour guides, etc.) My trip leader Tatiana was amazing! :) Throughout the trip, she communicated the plans for each day clearly and effectively. She provided insightful briefings before each new destination and always made sure we arrived on time. I was truly impressed by her vast knowledge about the history and culture of each area we visited, familiarity with local restaurant owners, and tour guides. She really took the time to understand the group's individual interests and preferences while creating an inclusive and welcoming environment. Whether suggesting her favorite hidden gems, arranging optional activities, or accommodating individual requests, Tatiana ensured that each group member felt comfortable and cared for throughout the trip. Sardinia June 2024 A friend and I, late 30's needed a break from family and mom life. We choice FTLO because of their great marketing and of course of beautiful location. There were lots of amazing parts to this 7 day trip and others that can use improvement i.e. accommodations and food. But the #1 element to this magical trip was our group leader, Pierra. P has the most amazing energy, laid back and calming but with such force and pose. She kept everything running at such a delightful speed that never did it feel rushed or too slow (I know hard to believe in Italy.) The care she took in not having to worry about anything, from break time espressos to water on a hot walking tour. Being a mom and always having to take care of others it felt so nice to not have to think and be taken care of. One would be lucky to have P as their group leader. read more

BOOK.THE.TRIP. This company just does things different. I am currently at the end of my Greece trip with the fabulous Isaiah and my heart is so full. Having Isaiah, as a local, take us around to all of the places that the other tourists don't have on their radar, was the standout for me. Of course the private charters and amazing meals made it an experience, but it was learning about Greece and the people and their kindness, through her eyes, that made this unforgettable. We also happened to be on an all-girl trip, which could have gone left, but this was the most amazing group of positive, fun-filled women. We all came for different reasons and fed each other in the most lovely way. We're trying to become the company test group for future trips and planning reunions, already. Where to start? I originally found FTLO on my Instagram For You page in 2019. I decided to rip the bandaid and purchase my first solo trip to celebrate a milestone birthday. I booked Ireland which has been on my list for years. And then Covid happened. Fast forward to 2022, and switched gears and booked a trip to Costa Rica less than two weeks away with my Ireland credit. And let me just say, I am beyond impressed with my first trip. My bar was very low, "did I die?" and "did I get Covid?" (Confirmed, both No's) were my only barometers for success. Due to my schedule and booking last minute, I did nearly zero research so didn't know what to expect accept a whole lot of outdoor activities. And other than missing the pack list email, this never become a problem because nearly all of the trip was planned to a T. Laura, our local Costa Rican host, was incredible. She was knowledgeable and funny. Her best advice was off the itinerary and that was to go to Kinky's after dinner. This was a fan favorite for us all. Every touch point was with both Laura and FTLO was smooth. Company communication was prompt and accurate. All questions were answered in a timely manner. As for our group, what a gaggle of characters. We came from all over the country and multiple times it was said "I haven't DANCED-LAUGH-INSERT-ACTIVITY- this hard since preCovid!". And it's true. I forgot about the Pandemic for a whole 3 songs one night (longest record to date so you know it was fun). I know I speak for others when I say we tried so many new adventures and learned a helluva lot too. This trip was a good mix of touristy and culture. Side note: I am glad I booked days solo afterwards to decompress from all the stimulation. Having a FTLO employee with group was nice too. In fact, whatever you're paying Kalena-Always-Be-Closing, it should be more. I have already seen a number of trips and new client intros made over group tests and what's app convos. And it's only been 3 days since the trip ended. This was all from her causal and effortless plugs paired with personal experience. Personally, I hadn't even considered SJORN before this weekend and now I'm plotting to get me and my cat in Italy this Summer. Tip for water activities booker, please schedule bikini activities *before* buffet meals, TYSM. Also, it would be helpful to cushion dinner meal times (specifically the first and last) around arrivals. Both instances we were rushed to be ready in less than 20 mins because of elements out of our hands (traffic from airport and boat losing power and needing to be towed). Example would be an optional happy hour for those ready to go and then an hour later do dinner for those who needed a minute. Trip highlights for me: FOOD, water activities, and the dancing! [[[This section is for travelers of color, specifically those #TravelingWhileBlack.]]] All in all, I recommend. Costa Rica isn't overtly racist but, there are serious colorism issues you will likely run into. There were a handful of situations I did not love being in or witnessing based on skin-tone. However, there is not a ton of police presence (I learned this is intentional and kudos to them) which adds a layer of relaxation IMO. As for FTLO, being the *only* in the group was difficult. It made certain racist scenarios stand out even more because I could compare treatment with my fellow travelers right in front of me. In the future, I will ask past travelers of color about their specific experience and also seek intel on the group mix prior to booking. PS. I did the FTLO Thailand trip this past Christmas and it was honestly such a wonderful experience. Our guide, P'Ben, was so amazing and she made sure that we all got the absolute most out of our time there. She was so great at giving us insider tips and even coordinated an optional epic kayaking experience that honestly was one of the best experiences of my life. My group of fellow solo travelers was also such an amazing addition to the experience - we all got along so well and have already made plans for a reunion in NY in February. I haven't stopped talking about this trip to everyone I know and I literally can't wait till my next FTLO trip. I had an incredible time on the inaugural Oaxaca trip! I was excited for the itinerary as I had been on a trip previously but this exceed my expectations. It was great to be immersed in the Oaxacan culture, starting with staying right in the heart of the city, and through all the activities that FTLO planned with locals who were so excited to welcome us into their world. We were able to do so much in a span of five days! I just returned from a trip to Sardinia and can't say enough good things about my trip leader Piera (aka Pi)!!! She made the trip truly special and is the kindest, most thoughtful person I've ever met - hands down. Pi went the extra mile every second of the day to make sure our group of 11 was having fun but also learning new things about Sardinian culture. We had tons of laughs together, beautiful beach & boat days and sampled delicious food everywhere we went. I recently went on their Costa Rica trip and had a blast! It was my first time traveling solo. The company is very organized and thorough with the entire process of preparing you for the trip. Communication is easy, they even provide packing list, facts about the country, and a space/chat to connect with other travelers. They require covid test regardless of what the country requires. The activities chosen for the Costa Rica trip were perfect! The itinerary never felt rushed, and there was free time to do our own thing. We did high adrenaline activities such as Ziplining and surf lessons, and laid-back activities such as hot springs and beach/pool. The hotel was beautiful and there was free breakfast every day. Our trip leader, Laura, was amazing and knowledgeable. Our travel group was very friendly and fun! I am already looking into more trips in the near future. My FTLO Costa Rica trip just wrapped and wow! I cannot say enough wonderful things about the experience. Communication leading up to the trip was top notch, including packing lists and a day by day itinerary well in advance. The location (Tamarindo) and planned events had a great mix of stuff for adventurers and and those looking for a more relaxed experience. Our group was so rad and filled with just a great bunch of funny, smart, and kind humans. Saving the best for last - our guide, Laura. This experience would not have been the same without her. She's is a gem of a human and made herding 14 excited adults look effortless. Every single one of us at some point throughout the trip said, "I just wanna be as cool as Laura one day". One can only dream. In all seriousness though, she had this process down to a science. She knew all the best spots for food, drinks, and tours and was always happy to make the arrangements for us even on the optional events. I ended up staying longer in Costa Rica for a few more days and she even planned a whole freakin 5-day itinerary for me, complete with recommendations for restaurants in TWO different towns, AND found, contacted, and arranged a private transfer to the airport!! I got back about a week ago from my second FTLO trip and it was amazing! This time I went to Jordan - the itinerary was really well put together; my only complaint was that I wish it was a little longer! Our trip leader Mahmoud was super knowledgeable about all of the places we went. Not only did he give some historical background and details on the sites we were visiting, but he could answer all of our questions and give us suggestions for how to best spend our free time. He was really helpful if something was going wrong and adjusted the itinerary when needed to keep things running smoothly. A few highlights were of course Petra and our canyoning excursion, as well as Najla's kitchen where we got to cook our own Jordanian meal! The staff was super friendly and it was such a fun experience. In terms of accommodations, sun city camp was definitely memorable - being able to enjoy stargazing from your own dome is unreal! Overall, the trip to Jordan was amazing and I can say I've made a lot of new friends. :) Can't wait for my next FTLO adventure!! read more

A FTLO trip and Costa Rica have been on my bucket list, and I'm so glad I had the opportunity to combine these experiences. FTLO did a great job laying out the agenda, and you'll get the chance to meet and interact with like-minded people while traveling, as well as the fabulous people of the Tamarindo and surrounding community. One of my biggest highlights of the trip is the local host, Laura. She is an absolutely incredible human, and expert trip leader and I will never forget all she did to contribute to such a memorable experience for the group. I would love to travel with Laura through FTLO again, and highly recommend this trip to anyone looking to experience Costa Rica. read more

I just returned last week from the Tuscany/Rome trip, and it was my second trip with FTLO. I couldn't recommend this trip more!! We had such an amazing time exploring Florence, San Gimignano, Siena, and Rome. The trip was filled with so many unique experiences I would have never found in my own like an authentic cooking class with an Italian grandmother, truffle hunting with the cutest pup in Tuscany, exploring spots only locals would know, the coliseum and Ancient Rome tour, and the best welcome and closing dinners. Our trip leader, Isaiah, went above and beyond to ensure we all had an unforgettable time. She was extremely attentive to what each individual person wanted to do/see, gave us many recommendations for food, gelato, and free time activities and was always checking in on us. She also made the final goodbye dinner extra special with individualized gifts and quotes describing our personalities within the group. She was the glue that kept us together and anyone would be lucky to take a trip with her. I can't wait for my next FTLO trip, so impressed with this company!!! read more

I recently finished the Barcelona and South of France trip. The itinerary was amazing. We hit a lot of small coastal towns in France, including a visit to Èze. With our extra free time a few of us made an evening trip to Monaco for dinner and fun at the Monte-Carlo Casino. When we arrived to Barcelona, we did even more. The restaurants they selected were amazing. The tapas, especially the meats, were the best of the 5 countries I've visited in Europe. Barcelona was packed full of activities with just enough free-time to explore. But what brought the whole experience together was our amazing guide Jordana. What a difference it makes to have such a nice and outgoing person as our trip leader! Both knowledgeable and personable, Jordana's upbeat and positive energy made the experience of the trip itinerary that much more enjoyable. I'm glad I choose FTLO for this trip. I have some reservations about the higher cost, which I attribute to some of the selections for dinner, which were a bit high-end for my personal preference or needs and with alternatives could have reduced the cost of the trip. However overall it was a great experience and I highly recommend FTLO for group travel. read more

I've done two trips with FTLO and have two more booked with a girl I met in Belize. I decided to travel with FTLO because I didn't want to travel alone, and all my friends are married with children and aren't able to travel with me. I've made so many long-lasting friendships and even met one of my best friends through FTLO. A group of us met up for our own reunion trip in Curaçao, and I've also met up with some of the girls in Hawaii, Texas, NYC, and at the Jersey Shore. The trip prices may appear high, but in my opinion, they ensure that those traveling with FTLO are mature professionals whose goals align--and, of course, who know how to have fun and enjoy the finer things in life. read more
