I come here alot, but this past saturday when i went changed it all. We walked in the store and the guy at the register with the beer gut seemed like he was in a bad mood. Asked him about some t-shirts and he gave us an attitude. We brushed it off. Everybody has a bad day once in their life. When it was time to pay my cousin gave the guy $40.00 to pay for the shirt with the discount it came to about $18 so he asked for the change, but the guy with the beer gut tried to play it off and say that my cousin gave him $20 only. My cousin even placed the bills on the counter and counted it infront of him. He felt stupid when my cousin grabed the bills and pulled them apart. All the guy could say was "oh my bad." Never coming back here again. Don't like it when people try to get over on their customers. read more

RAD! FTC was the easiest xmas shopping experience I had this year. And I was so nervous going in it was ridiculous. But I usually think of skate shops as boys clubs.. especially intimidating since I know very little about skating minus the tiny slip of paper, crumpled in my pocket, with the brief description of the deck my husband had mentioned liking. He hasn't skated since he was in college and had been recently enviously eying other skaters in our neighborhood. Since he's turning 30 this year and not getting any younger, and since we've been spending A LOT of time on the couch lately with our DVR, the xbox, etc... I figured getting around outside by board might not be such a bad idea. So I decided to surprise him by getting not just the deck, but the hardware as well so that he had something to "play with" on xmas morning. I walked into FTC to just what I had imagined, literally a big circle of dudes hanging. BUT, that's where my predictions ended and super niceness took over. A guy behind the counter immediately broke off from the pack to ask if I needed help. I handed over my crumpled scrap paper and he grabbed the deck off the wall. I then explained I'd like everything needed to get him started and within a minute a bag was placed in front of me containing spitfire wheels, trucks, grip tape, bearings, etc. The guy helping me (sorry I didn't catch his name!) told me this was all the stuff he recommended cause it was what he used. He was super sincere and didn't make me feel out of place at all. Best part, it all came to around $100 (less than I had expected to pay) and he threw in a bunch of cool stickers and a skate mag. I was in and out within about 3 minutes! For reals. And boy did I feel cool, carrying that deck under my arm (all the way across the street to my car ;) ). Best part? The look on hubster's face when he unwrapped the hardware first, then an even bigger smile when I presented him with the deck. He looked so surprised, and SO IMPRESSED, it was completely worth all the needless anxiety I had, prior to entering FTC. Not to mention the fact that he has an extra soft spot for this shop since he used to mail order stuff from here when he was just a wee 15 year-old Midwesterner. read more

When I think of skateboarding and San Francisco I think of FTC: For The City. If you want to know why, here's a little history lesson. FTC was established in 1986 only selling a small collection of skate gear in the back of a ski and tennis shop. By 1994 they opened its own doors to a store on Haight-Ashbury street in SF. They began to evolve and grow towards the city street skating scene, and help put legendary skate spots Embarcadero aka EMB and Hubba Hideout on the map. Today the FTC family continues to grow making quality clothing and skateboard products. Even ESPN Action Sports did a story about them and their family values. read more

i stopped going to this place probably after about the 2nd time i went in to their new location. its just not the same anymore. the spot on shrader was a real skate shop back when FTC was runnin the game in the city. the videos were awesome and SF really was one of the main epicenters of skateboarding in the world. i used to buy all my stuff there. the new spot is like a boutique store. im not feelin it. plus the dudes in there think they're a bit cooler than they actually are. it never used to be like that., i guess we all do it sometimes, but still. plus its WAYYYY too overpriced, and their selection is NOTHING like it used to be. maybe skateboarding is just too played out these days but it seems like FTC went right along with it. im also blown away that they actually sell nike stuff. its a damn shame read more

FTC changed from being that "cool local skate shop", to an overpriced novelty attraction for tourists. In short FTC: Fuck the Customers. Lets be honest your not about the city anymore. There's a saying in Japan (where their other shitty store is), Okyakusama wa kamisama, Customers are gods. Instead, here they will treat you like a piece of shit. SF native bought my first board here when I was 6. I used to love coming to FTC to buy new decks, wheels etc, but my most recent visits have been fucking awful. The employees are absolutely terrible at customer service and are extremely godamn rude. Pretentious attitudes, unwillingness to answer questions. Overall just terrible. I tried to buy a deck the other day and half way through the transaction the employee helping me leaves to go talk with his buddies who just walked in. Leaving me standing there...All of the other employees where conversing, no one offered to help. Fuck FTC I hope you guys go out of business. The only reason you guys are still round is due to selling your overpriced merch to dumb tourists. From now on Im gonna start trecking down to DLX where the employees actually help you out and answer your questions with pleasant attitudes. read more

Always have to make a stop here when we are in the city and my bf breaks shit. They have a good selection on boards,shoes and men's clothes....not so much on women's but that's a given. It's a skate shop. The staff is cool. I don't know what some are saying on here about douchebags and how this place is only for fashion. This is a real skate shop...They carry real shit here. This is a cool shop, which reminds me of a skate shop back home called 35th North. Pretty good selection of various clothing, as well as a clear skate-centric mentality. They actually carry parts and tools, and service boards too. Unlike a couple reviews I read, I didn't find any issue with any of the sales staff when I shopped there. Sorry, I don't even skate anymore, but who cares? Do I need to justify myself and explain that I snowboard, wakeboard, dh mtb, etc...? Hell no. Some people need to just stop being such haters. It's a cool shop, let it be what it is and cater to the community and make some money so they can stay in business. read more

FTC is awesome. They have a good selection and get fresh stuff in often, which is a prime criteria for a skate shop after all.

Cool skate shop, I like how they display all their t-shirts on hangers, that way when you check out the wares you don't get frowned upon as you dismantle extravagantly folded creations. Good shoe selection, and decent skateboard essentials are also available. read more

FTC is one of the stores that pop up in your ear from time to time if you are a local SF native. I've been coming to FTC for years now and the service for me has been great. It's a skate shop foremost and that is appreciated. I do come here to find new clothing and they have a decent size selection. Diamond Supply, DGK seem to be filling the racks more than anything which is okay. I come in looking for more SF products and it can be hit or miss with that. 5 stars for being an OG store on Haight and for the customer service. I'd give it a 5.5 if yelped allowed it if they brought in more SF clothing. read more

Their selection of skateboard goods isn't all that great but their house-brand skate clothing is pretty awesome. It's a little over-priced for what it is but they have a pretty good selection of stylish skate clothing. The staff is super helpful unlike other competing skate / lifestyle stores like Supreme. Even if you have no clue what kind of set-up you need, these guys are willing to help. read more
