guy behind me (rear veiw mirror) came prepared with gloves

Organized and well run place - all employees are excellent at doing their jobs well. I usually find myself at Alco at least a few times a year and then while I'm there I might bring some of my seltzer water cans - ok... lets be honest - beer cans.... lots of them.... But with Covid they no longer accept them and so I had to look for a new place to go. Went to Cash For Cans in Oakland at 2:50pm and was told they were closed as I arrived. A very busy place where you would have to park a block away or in the middle of the street. Pure chaos... I feel like going there would be good for character building... So two big trash bags were now on the back of my truck and I was tired of stumbling over them in the dark for the past few years and I didn't want to put them back there. Next closest place was Frys. I arrived and there was a small line in the street that I lined up in. Dodge Caravan in front of me (seems like the optimal vehicle for recycling) and a Chevy Lumina (that guy knows the value of a dollar) was pulling out as a worker was looking out for oncoming traffic as he exited. Very thoughtful. Behind me pulled up another car. This guy must have been a regular - he was putting on bright blue surgical rubber gloves as he was waiting with his lady friend (she's a keeper, huh?!). Its my turn - I pull in giddy with excitement. I'm guided into a legit parking spot with cones on either side and across the way was these wheelie containers to put my junk in. Sticky beer cans - I saw a bunch of other cans I hadn't seen for a long time too. As my junk is getting weighed the guy at the cashier already has my money ready. Two crispies - a fifty and a one and a dime and a nickle. Yeah - not really junk afterall. Like I said - parking director efficient, can weigh guy (im sure his official job title is way more impressive) enthusiastic and the cashier quick... A rather delightful experience.

It was quick & very organized. You just have to pick the right day to go, so you don't have to wait in line.

One of the few spots purchasing recyclables right now. They will have a line so plan to be here for a little while, 15 to 30 minutes

Alameda County Hazardous Waste Facility

Original Post 07/12/25 but today 07/15/25 I am so happy and excited that the Manager over all…read morethe 4 facilities to drop off hazardous waste after I left a message called back to state that he had located my item. I was so happy and glad that he put in effort to help me. I thanked him immensely and let him know how appreciated he is. I will from now on make sure to have my items correctly separated and properly sorted. ......On 07/12 I came to drop off a few items and mistakenly one item was taken. I went back to the facility to ask for my item back, but they refused. The manager refused to give me my item. I was very distraught. I had anxiety. I asked him why you wouldn't just give me my item that was mistakenly taken instead of making it so frustrating. I've gone to this facility for probably 10+ years and I've never had a problem until this time and I was just so surprised and take it back that they wouldn't help me. I called and left a message on the message line to see if there was anyone to help me but at this point I feel like it's a total loss. Overall, do visit this facility they care and they will help you if something goes wrong.

Went there to drop box off fluorescent tubes. Had like 2 dozens of them that previous of owner of…read morethe house left me as garbage I suppose. Those tubes are considered hazardous. Went there on Friday during lunch time. I was the only customer. No appointment required. You stay in the card and they will ask for id. You pop the trunk and they will take them. As soon as they see these many tubes they quickly asked if I was with any business (I suppose this site is only for household Not commercial). I said no. They didn't believe me and ask my DL and say they will check my id against known registered business. Happy to comply and Of course it retuned nothing because what I told them is the truth - precious house owner left me this junk. It was also kinda funny cuz when i said it t was previous owner one of the guys said "why is everyone telling us that" implying using precious house owner leaves hazardous materials. I don't know if it is true everyone says that but I thought it was a humorous way to react what I was saying Anyways dropped those no problem and left the premise happy.
