They are quite cheap with their prices per pound but in my opinion, it kind of makes up for the lack and utter disrespectful service from Sal at CalWest. My usual spot was packed and I was short on time so I found Frys Metal and decided to give them a try. You pull in a grab a bin and go weigh it. It was my first time so I had no clue what to do but the nice gentleman was very helpful and what to do. Place is rundown and right but it gets the job done. Line can get pretty long on some days, so be prepared to wait on the side of the road if needed. Once in; you'll have to grab a bin or cart on your own and place your items in. As the signs says, there's no sorting as it can delay the line and make it more inconvenient for everyone. I do like Fry's metal is more than other plastic, cans and glass recycling centers because of how easy and convenient it is compared to other small recycling centers. Organized and well run place - all employees are excellent at doing their jobs well. I usually find myself at Alco at least a few times a year and then while I'm there I might bring some of my seltzer water cans - ok... lets be honest - beer cans.... lots of them.... But with Covid they no longer accept them and so I had to look for a new place to go. Went to Cash For Cans in Oakland at 2:50pm and was told they were closed as I arrived. A very busy place where you would have to park a block away or in the middle of the street. Pure chaos... I feel like going there would be good for character building... So two big trash bags were now on the back of my truck and I was tired of stumbling over them in the dark for the past few years and I didn't want to put them back there. Next closest place was Frys. I arrived and there was a small line in the street that I lined up in. Dodge Caravan in front of me (seems like the optimal vehicle for recycling) and a Chevy Lumina (that guy knows the value of a dollar) was pulling out as a worker was looking out for oncoming traffic as he exited. Very thoughtful. Behind me pulled up another car. This guy must have been a regular - he was putting on bright blue surgical rubber gloves as he was waiting with his lady friend (she's a keeper, huh?!). Its my turn - I pull in giddy with excitement. I'm guided into a legit parking spot with cones on either side and across the way was these wheelie containers to put my junk in. Sticky beer cans - I saw a bunch of other cans I hadn't seen for a long time too. As my junk is getting weighed the guy at the cashier already has my money ready. Two crispies - a fifty and a one and a dime and a nickle. Yeah - not really junk afterall. Like I said - parking director efficient, can weigh guy (im sure his official job title is way more impressive) enthusiastic and the cashier quick... A rather delightful experience. read more

I had been saving my aluminum cans for probably 4 years now and had almost given up hope to find a place that still accepts CA CRV until I drove past this place on a Saturday on the way to a walk on the shoreline. The place was busy, there were probably like 6 cars on the street waiting to get in on a Saturday morning. I decided to try on a Tuesday. I checked their website for the hours and tried to give them a call to see if they still accept cans. It rang and rang, no answer. So I just decided to load up my car and try it out. Thankfully there was no line to get in from the street, but there was a guy directing traffic at the driveway from Winton and he had me stay in the street until a couple cars pulled out and a space opened up. You grab one of their carts, put it next to your car and load them up. You've got to have your cans/bottles/glass already separated when you arrive. I'm sure they say this to make the process more efficient. They weighed my cart of cans, paid me, and I was on my way. Glad to find a place that you can still get cash back for recycling! read more

Due to the pandemic, a lot of these recycling places are closed. Fortunately, we found Fry's metals. They get you in and out. Super organized, I like that there is someone to direct traffic and tell you where to park. They have big push carts with wheels for you to unload your recyclable too!!! A huge plus as the plastic bottles and aluminum cans are heavy and if you are dragging these garbage cans, it can take a toll on your body. I hope they stick around a very long time. read more

DO NOT GO HERE My grandpa went here with 160 lbs of goods. They only gave him credit for 80 lbs, taking advantage of him. They basically robbed him. I noticed the discrepancy because the slip they gave him was incorrect. read more

You can recycle steel here but you don't get any compensation, they will take it for free. Better than paying someone. Also, the place is where those individuals who go and strip metal (copper wires) go to cash in. Not my favorite but it works and I'm glad it exists. be cautious not to injure yourself in the property there are a lot of sharp edges. read more

They need to do a betterjob at letting people know their closed. We got their at 15 minutes to closing and they were still letting people in. We were the 2nd car waiting in line. The proper thing to do would have been to put a sign out to say your closed after this car. You can also send someone out to say your not taking anymore people. Please do better. read more

This is my go to place for recycling.all the employees are fast and very nice people.the price per pound is fair aluminum at 1.65 a pound and plastic at 1.27 a pound.there sometimes is a line to get into the parking lot but it moves fast the homie Ruben he has the cars coming in and out in an orderly fashion. read more

I waited about 30 minutes, got in line at 11am. When I drove up the gate was still open I didn't see no one around so I parked and started to unload. Then a gentleman came said they were closed that I had to be in at 11:30am? But he let me unpack my cans/plastic he let me proceed with selling my cans. When I got my recycling weighted why did he tell the guy to SUBTRACT 10 pounds because i came in late?!? Remind you it was still before 12 noon! If I would've known that he was going to subtract pounds from my recycling I would have not sold my recycling. His response was " we are trying to go home" ?! This is a great recycling center! The people who work there were very nice to us. This was my first time going and wasn't sure of the rules there was a line of cars near the entrance but that moved very quickly and it was only about a 10 min wait we didn't realize that glass had to be sorted and it can't be sorted on site so they let us borrow a few bins leave and cut the line. Just as long as you are understanding and nice the people who work here will be nice but because it is a little crowded they can be seen as cut throat. All in all I had a great experience with no complaints! read more

I had to find a new place to recycle my cans, bottles, and glass. I went to one on Central Ave. near James Logan HS but they took over 2 hours to get served but this place was much faster. There was someone directing traffic and they had lots of bins to load your recyclable but no clear directions on instructions on how to give them your materials. Once I figured out: no bags, no trash, and load separated materials into bins, it worked out well and was so fast to recycle my collected materials. read more

Well this time I didn't use The Yelp Community because I knew about this place but never used them. I got ahold of 31 bags of aluminum and plastic recycling water bottles and cans from a neighbor that said I can take them if I would get them off his property on the weekend. I took all 31 bags at 55 gallons each on Saturday. Took them to my house and separated them 5 hours of work on Saturday. Frys Metals was open Monday so I took 9 / 55 gallon bags and they were very quick no line when I got there so I dumped the bags into their carts and took them to the scale I was over 100 pounds and they told me they have a limit of 100 pounds ( thanks to our government) so I gave them my drivers license number they took the load. They were reasonable they didn't call the police or take photos of me to post at the local post office. I told the scale master I had 22 more 55 gallon bags. I told him I cleaned a seniors backyard and got all these bags how about I bring him with me , he said okay and back I came with another 9 bags at 100+ pounds. My neighbor the senior citizens said what the Hell is this country coming to to say you have a limit, he said when I bought all these drinks they never said they had a limit on what I could spend. Well my neighbor and I had a outing together talked and all good. Fry's Metals was very quick and they even had a very helpful employee directing traffic for entering and exiting the driveway to leave the busy Winton Av. There's a place on Western Av in union city if you have hours to burn. I actually used Fry's the next day and got rid of the other bags. Fry's is a better option than Union City Hands down. Only second time here, and line gets long, which is understandable since other recycling programs and centers have all mostly closed. No problems once in the recycling center itself, but the owner was unnecessarily rude. Sir, I totally understand your frustration, but maybe have someone on your great crew specifically designated to direct traffic away from Cloud Way, so drivers aren't left wondering how to line up correctly to give you their business. Honking your truck horn and berating drivers attempting to line up with no one helping us is not the best way to get cooperation nor get our business. It just makes customers like me never want to come back again. And I know your neighbor around the corner who is also frustrated and calls police. He is a friend and a very good man, and someone who would never be so rude to well-intentioned customers trying to gain access to his business. Find a better solution than haranguing your customers. I use to go to Aaron's Metal for CRV recycling but the pandemic lead to the closure of a lot of recycling centers. Luckily Fry's metals has been open and still continues to accept cans and bottles, saved us from a mountain of recycling built up. Lines do get pretty long sometimes and there is a worker directing traffic by the entrance. Everything is self serve, emptying recyclables onto trash bins to have them weighted. read more

This place is on a busy street and I didn't realize the cars that were parked on the side of the road were actually in line to bring in their recycling. There may have been signs but I must have missed it, I was just trying to get out of the way. I pulled up into recycling center and a worker told me the line was back there. I was able to recycle all my bags and didn't have to wait TOO long. No glass accepted on the weekend! Other than that this place is very efficient for crv recycling. Alco was my go to before they stopped accepting crv. I've tried American Recycling but the place was small, the lines were long, and they wouldn't accept certain items sometimes. I arrived on Saturday morning around 9, there were about 10 cars in front of me and I waited about 10-15 minutes to get in. There is someone directing traffic which is very helpful. The spots in front are for those with a few bags and the spots in the back are for those with a truckload. You definitely want to have everything sorted before arriving. After you load up your items, there is someone literally waiting to weigh your stuff and as soon as everything is weighed the cashier hands you your cash. I was impressed with the speed and efficiency. That being said, I probably will just put my crv in the recycle bin going forward. It is becoming a hassle to save up crv at home and take it into the fewer and fewer recycling centers out there. Bonus - The Hayward Shoreline is just down the street and is a great place for a scenic and relaxing walk! read more

They are open during COVID, they quickly answered the phone. When you arrive stay in your car with your crv, line up with your car near the sidewalk (avoid blocking resident's driveway) where the entrance is until you are permitted to enter and park. They even have carts with wheels for easy moving of your crv. Line went fast, staff were efficient. I'll definitely be back, thank you! read more
