Nino's Pizza

Best pizza in Mobile. No doubt about it…read more Best lasagna dinner as well. It's Father's Day, so finally I got to choose where we would have dinner. I chose Nino's because I had heard good things about it, and I hadn't had pizza in a very long time. Upon arrival in the parking lot my wife commented about how it was located between a vape shop and a hookah lounge, with a tattoo parlor anchoring the last retail shop in the structure. Not a good first impression, at least to her eyes. She also noticed, and mentioned, that there were several people siting in their vehicles outside the restaurant, with their cars idling. I too thought this was concerning, but not enough to let it distract me from my mission, to discover for myself whether the pizza that Nino's served was as good as I had heard. So despite my wife's protestations, in we went. This place is small, no it's tiny. So much so that it consists of on one side a row of booths for customers to sit at, and on the other side is the order counter, cashier, and the cooking space. Although the front door was wheelchair accessible, it was clear upon entering that the seating was not. So we quickly decided to place an order for takeout. My wife chose the lasagna dinner and I chose a large meat lovers pizza. We didn't have to wait an inordinate amount of time for our order to be prepared, and during that time watched the cooks roll out and kneed the dough for my pizza. My wife asked if their dough was made fresh each day, and the cashier assured her it was. The people outside sitting in their cars, I soon discovered, were DoorDash and UberEats drivers waiting to pickup their order. I deemed this to be a good sign. Soon our order was ready, and one of the cooks actually insisted on carrying it to our car for us. This kind gesture was the final straw for my wife, and without having taken her first bite of her lasagna dinner, announced that Nino's was going to be her only pizza joint, no exceptions. I found my meat lovers pizza to be exactly what I expect from a pizza. The best I have ever had in Mobile. Now I know from reading other reviews, that some have commented that it is not a true New York style pizza, and I will leave that argument to be settled by people more knowledgeable than I. All I know is that I like it. My wife's lasagna was equally as good, and came with a good size salad that was fresh, tasty and crisp. We have a winner in our search for best pizza! Nino's Pizza on Hillcrest. We'll be back! For sure.
