"As good as it gets" is a great short description of Front Porch Music. Community oriented with knowledgeable and professional staff, stocked with a great range of quality equipment for the professional or hobbyist, pillar of the local music culture, and a cool place to just hang out are all equally as accurate but more specific. This estabilshment is old school in that they strive to take care of their clientele and maintain good relationships with their customers. My son's a musician, so every time we pass through Bakersfield we make a pilgrimage to Front Porch Music. It's like church for us. They have a curated collection of vintage guitars, pedals and amps that are dangerously fair priced for gear heads. Apparently it's the go to place for real drummers. Be sure to grab a t-shirt. read more

Front Porch Music has been our go-to shop for decades. The employees here are nice, and they have some insanely good deals. This is the place I go for my equipment 100%. read more

Just got the best deal on sticks that I ever had, great sticks too. This store has a mass of drum parts and some museum level of bass pedals. A full great condition Camco set. a full room of guitars including Dobro's. Banjos, and old keyboards too. they likely have a B3, Etc. I had no idea this place existed easy to find and plenty free parking at the store. Reminds me of the "Pro Drum Shop" in Hollywood. One room is all drums. read more

Didn't have what I needed but the staff was nice and very informed. Will call again if I need something else. read more

Great Service Everytime I Need Anything! Highly Recommend This Local Business! Shoutout to Luke Who Always Shows Love!

I must admit I'm intrigued with this place. And the location works well for me. And... Both times I have come on an "Open" day, the business is closed. Strike One, Saturday: Dust Bowl Days - sign in window Strike Two, Thursday 11:00-11:15: Running late? Closed for Halloween? read more

Awesome experience every time I have been in. Staff is incredibly knowledgeable with a lifetime of experience. They immediately identified the problem with my guitar and fixed it on the spot in less than 5 minutes. Charged me next to nothing too. Bought a set of strings- they were half off the price on the sticker, which already seemed super low. When I commented on it, they said they don't make any money on it, but they sell a ton of strings. Support local- its easy when the local guy is so great! read more

We had been looking for a guitar, and shopped around town. Ended up purchasing one at Front Porch. They man that helped us was very welcoming and helpful. My problem lays that we paid $215.42, but it went through my bank for $222. Not much difference and I didn't want to hassle it so let it go... but watch the amount they are actually charging you. Not good for business! Would of given higher rating if the would not of over charged me. read more

definitely call ahead before bothering to get off the highway and driving into town. this place looks great from the outside! but i can't ever seem to get in with enough time to shop. i've tried five times, and one time they were actually open - it was a saturday afternoon but the guy was in a big hurry to close up. i thought maybe he had a gig and had to get to sound check or something, hence closing at 4:45, but he said nope, it's just time to quit working. i tried again while passing through town- i played at the wonderful Fox theater down the street and was ready for some new strings and maybe a sweet old pedal or maybe that cool amp in the window - but they've been closed all weekend! i still have hopes of seeing more of this place... my 10 minutes thus far has been intriguing! read more

Front Porch Music - open! but closed. again. - Musical Instruments & Teachers Near Me - Bakersfield, California

Today we were shopping around for a guitar for my son. Our first stop was Front Porch Music. From the minute we walked in they were very helpful. We did want to shop around a bit so we then went to another music store. We will just say near the mall. No help what so ever. So back to Front Porch Music it was. Thank you for such great customer service. Great experience all the way around. You guys ROCK! read more

Front Porch Music - Musical Instruments & Teachers Near Me - Bakersfield, California

Great people! Called to find out about hours due to Covid-19 and was given a re-opening date. I needed help with re-stringing a Guitelele. The guy I spoke with hadn't heard of this instrument but said he'd research it and was sure he could help me. Called a few weeks later to make sure they'd be open & headed over. In a matter of a few minutes he'd restrung my daughter's guitelele and had it tuned perfectly! On another occasion we came and hung out in the Ukulele room during First Friday. Really cool spot, knowledgeable people and vintage Bakersfield charm. Thank you Front Porch! Will definitely be back! read more

What can I say - an old school music store with some cool and unique instruments. They have more than just electric guitars and basses - drums and acoustic guitars as well, plus accessories should you need them. Before going to the nation box store check these guys out. You may find what you're looking for. read more

So we were all in town for a show, all the crew and band guys wanted to come see this place after we found out they had all kinds of cool vintage stuff. There were some pretty big purchases made because there is some awesome shit to be found. Drums, guitars, amps...... everything. it looks tiny from the outside but they have a nice selection. Great employees, nice owner, totally friendly and helpful. There's a little yorkie that hangs out, it is soooo cute and playful. Also there are chairs/bench/ashtray out front (like a front porch) so if you're a girl who's chilling with band guys and you want to go sit down and play on your iphone and smoke..... there is a place for you. read more

This is what a music store supposed to be. A real mom-and-pop experience. With vintage and new music gear everywhere. The store is known all over the world and it's a real gem to have in Bakersfield. I love this store lots of music happening here.. Artie is great at helping out with gear and a re-string takes a matter of minutes... Faster than the pit crews at the races.. read more

My daughters violin was in need of repair. Her bridge was broken and we needed the instrument repaired and in working order by the next day. Luke at Front Porch took my phone call and was very pleasant, honest, and informative. I decided to give them a shot and boy was I presently surprised. Luke took my broken violin and brought it back to Luke in less than a 1/2 hour. Same day service. The price was unbelievable and the work was well done. Please look into this place when in need of any music related expense. You will be happy you did. They are so nice and efficient. Straight talk and nonsense. read more

Awesome store ! Awesome staff ! Came from Rancho Cucamonga, and purchased two guitars there ! Artie and Dennis are super helpful! Wish I had a store like this in my parts ! read more

Superior in every way..! One of the guitars I bought from them is a gorgeous G&L Doheny. A few months later, I was horrified to find a chip in the finish and had no idea how it happened. I couldn't get a return phone call from G&L about getting paint to match it. Then Artie, the owner of Front Porch, asked me to bring the guitar in. He had convinced G&L to completely strip and refinish it for free. THAT, folks, is customer service! read more

This is the kind of store that you WANT in your community. It's run by a good guy, who knows his stuff, and can get his hands on hard-to-find items. There's something to be said about experience and a good ear. Front Porch can get you the tone you want. Is this the place to take a beginner musician to find their first instrument? YES, because you'll start them on the path right with quality. Artie stocks amazing vintage gear like a boutique store, but he's also got new and affordable stuff. read more

Front porch Musick is a great place to get quality musical instruments. Dennis helps me find what I need and the guy is full of knowledge! I need to mention the word quality one more time. Take a pass on those corporate places. Owned by musicians who are well equipped to answer any question read more

Yes, the place really does have a front porch, of a sort. We talked to some retired Western stunt-show guys there. It's densely packed with all things music, vintage and new. If the hubby can be trusted while browsing, greet Ginger the terrier and play soccer ball with her. Owner Artie says the Arts District was named after him. Not so sure about that part. read more

This place is just the worst. I called to get more information about their music lessons, and the man who spoke to me over the phone was rude and patronizing. He would repeat every question or statement I said in a mocking tone. What a way to treat a potential customer! I would never recommend this business. read more

I went into Front Porch late yesterday to buy a music stand and tuner for my son. This place is simply awesome. It's like a cross between and museum, a pawn shop, and a music store. They have like a thousand guitars of every imaginable kind in this place. The guy whop helped me was super polite, and he knew what he was doing. Great experience. If you need some music equipment visit this locally owned place first, before you hit the chain stores. read more

Great place...Great people work there like..Dennis. ..old school. ..they real have everything your looking for ...

Everything a music store should be. Helpful staff who have knowledge about musical instruments/equipment both vintage and new. I've taken them a few of my guitars for repairs and cleanings and they come back looking, sounding and playing better than ever. Thank you Front Porch for serving our community's musical needs for all these years! read more

A One-of-a-Kind Music Store. I have been purchasing new and used instruments and accessories from Artie, the head proprietor, for over 35 years and have always been 100% satisfied. Prices are quite reasonable and he only sells what will work best for the customer. If you ever get a chance, stop by this place that could easily be turned into a museum. Classic guitars and other instruments from the 1960's and before are on display and sometimes for sale. New equipment is also available. If you are in another part of the world and can't stop by, give them a call. This is a reputable business that is an essential part of Downtown Bakersfield history. Don't expect a mall experience. This place, with thousands of items in stock, including several assembled drum kits to play and buy, will most likely have what you are looking for. Front Porch Music is run by seasoned musicians who can hook you up with gear that other musicians will be envious of. read more

I have been to a lot of music shops all across the country, and I have to say this has to be my favorite. This shop has hundreds of band and equipment. Front Porch Music - Musical Instruments & Teachers Near Me - Bakersfield, California

Awesome place! Sooo many cool things there. Owner is a great guy. I love to buy my guitar merchandise there. But, the only negative thing for me is, I wish there were more price tags on a lot of the amps they have on the ground there...that are new and/or used. That's it. But overall I think this place should be a national historic monument. read more

Front porch music is a cool breeze and when I think I'm going to buy somewhere else that Cool Breeze always blows me back to their front porch I've been coming to them since 1994 bought so many guitars there that I can't count no more some I've gave away so am I still keep but I'm always searching for that certain guitar that has that certain sound sometimes it can be found and sometimes you can't but for the wrecking crew of front porch music I take my hat off to you. When I walk through your doors it's like going back in time when everything was a little bit simpler in life and the music was real and the fingers hurt after playing a night whatever that might be.. the two tone Rangers thank you front porch music and and nobody in the background thanks you as well. This place is great! I came in to find a missing tension rod for a memory lock on my drum set, and found one right away. They have a ton of used hardware odds and ends that will definitely come in handy when things eventually break or get lost while gigging. Can't recommend this place enough. read more

I would never even set foot in this place agian!!! I took my Gibson Les Paul here to be repaired. After telling me it would be no problem at all, I was told to come back in a week to pick it up. When I came back they acted like they didnt even know who I was?!?!? They said they had no record of me bringing anything in their store, and this was the owner Arty. I had been comming in that place sence I was 11 years old. I took him to the back to find out they hadent even started work on it and thats why he was acting like he didnt know who I was. Either that or he was trying to steal my guitar. I dont put that past them at all!!! Then I was made to feel stupid because I came back when they told me to??? So this went on for 4 months. This guitar ment the world to me. The first one I ever bought. When they called me back to pick up the guitar I found the glue joint for my head stock wasnt even solid. If you tightened the strings the head stock would bend forward. My guitar is a honey sunburst and they painted the head and neck black!!!!. It had orange peel all through the paint. I told the owner that this is unexceptable in which he told me "Tuff shit, it is what it is". Front proch has been around for a while but I dont see how if that is how they treat their coustmers. The owner thought he could just take advantage of a 19 year old kids and kick him to the curb and mess his guitar up even more that it was when it got broght in. Well you did Arty, charged me 500$ to do a horrible job and now I am going to tell everyone I can about the way you treat your coustmers. Facebook, myspace, Yelp, linkt, you name it and you will find me there giving you the review you deserve. Good luck in your buissness read more
