We had a fence that fell down during a storm and I had to work with neighbors that I don't know, who were also out of the country. So getting estimates fell on me. I got this company name from Yelp and contacted Chris. We set up a date and time for an estimate and though he texted he was running late, he showed up on time. He would always text me arrival times. Which I always appreciated, so my day wasn't held hostage waiting. He also always showed up on time. The neighbors chose Front Gate from the estimates I sent to them, Im sure it was because of his reasonable price and we went from there. We got a construction date scheduled and Chris and Alejandro showed up on time and got right to work. 80 feet of fence finished ahead of schedule, in one day. After they left, I noticed some planks that weren't lying flat and since I was working also on behalf of the neighbors, I texted that discovery to Chris that evening and he got immediately back to me and that reassured me. The next morning, Alejandro cameout to take a look and he understood where I was coming from and he came up with a solution and remedied the concerns I had, straight away. The fence looks nice and straight and I feel confident that if any problem should arise, I can call and they would make it right. The level of customer service is really remarkable. Very polite and respectful, friendly and easy to work with, they listen and Chris responds to calls and texts in a timely manner. No complaints. For the price I feel like we stumbled onto a really good fence company. Thank you! read more

Chris can really benefit from a scheduling person or someone to handle calls. I will give him credit in that he is knowledgeable and knows what he is doing, but he has absolutely zero business sense or customer service. The other one/2 star reviews are absolutely spot on. We hired Chris to install safety loop sensors for our entry/exit gates after an asphalt replacement. The first go around he was SUPER responsive and came out exactly when needed to install the loops before the new asphalt went down. That was the last of the good. He promised to come back on Saturday to complete the install on e the asphalt dried. Didn't show up. Texted him and he said he'd be out Sunday. Didn't show up. Texted him and he said he'd be out Tuesday. Didn't show up. Finally he came out the following Wednesday and got things hooked up. I tested the loops myself a few days later and found that the exit safety loops weren't working at all. I texted Chris and he said he'd be out the next day to look at it. Didn't show up. I ended up opening up, diagnosing and fixing this problem myself because Chris was not responsive. Fast forward a couple months. We get complaints from a resident that the loops weren't picking up her motorcycle. I call Chris and he immediately explains "oh, yeah I wouldn't expect that to work. If you wanted it to work for Motorcycles you should have asked." Huh? You are going to install something in complex with multiple vehicle types constantly going in and out and not make it work for all road legal vehicle types? I can understand bikes not working anymore, but motorcycles should have definitely come up in conversation. Regardless, we didn't even argue the above point and just wanted the issue fixed, so we asked Chris how much it would be to add a motorcycle loop. He quoted us $600 but then it took a week of prying to get him to put it on paper for us to officially approve. That was about a month ago. He initially told us when giving the verbal quote "i can definitely do it this week" which turned into the following week since he wouldn't send us a bid to sign. Once we finally got the bid, Chris set up Wednesday for the install. No call/no show. I texted him the following Sunday, and he promised that he would be there on Tuesday. No call/no show. More than a week later I call him, not to argue, just to see if he is still planning on doing it and he says "you know what? I have to be up in Salinas tomorrow and will be passing through so I can take care of it on my way back (it's only an hour job). Great! See you then! This morning I text to let him know I'll be out during the time he mentioned and the text doesn't go through. This dude apparently blocked me, and also my girlfriend who had also reached out about scheduling these follow ups. Mind you EVERY date that was proposed was what Chris himself provided. We did not pester him or demand him come on any certain date or time. If you are going to tell someone "first thing tomorrow" you'd think that you would know what you have planned for that day already and know you can make it. The icing on the cake was when I called another contractor for an estimate and explained this saga a little bit and the first thing he said was "was it Chris?" is telling. This guy has zero business sense nor pride in his work. If your job is big enough he may actually do enough to get your money but if you have any issues at all afterwards, or need a small revision (THAT YOU'RE PAYING FOR!) good luck. He will not stand behind his work and will not make time for you. The level of immaturity I have experienced from this contractor is unparalleled, you'd almost think this was written by AI or some type of fiction. Chris, if you are reading this and somehow thinking that the customers are the problem and pestering you/there is ANY possible excuse for your behavior, there isn't. You're lucky that there is apparently an abundance of first time customer who don't read reviews, as you will never have a repeat customer with your antics. read more

I had an appointment for 1:00. He called and said he's be here at 2:00, text again and said he would text when he could get here. after another hour and a half, I text him and told him I would find someone else. How can this company stay in business when you can't even get someone to come out for a job estimate!! so unprofessional. I needed service on my automatic gate. The guy told me he could upgrade my equipment for $850. All I need is a battery. We made an appointment for 8:00 . Chris and his crew put up a 240' decorative iron fence for us. The quality and workmanship of the fence rates a 5 star review. Why the 2 star rating? Chris promised a start date on the 12th. On the 11th ihe postponed a week. with a promise to start on the 19th and finish in three days. We were ok with the week postponement. Chris started on the 19th. Then his professionalism and communication deteriorated. He came for a half day. Then had a family emergency and didn't come. Then promised he would come back the next day. Didn't show up, didn't call, and didn't respond to texts and phone calls as to where he was. This happened two more times where he would show up for half day and then disappear for a day, or two, without a word and no responses to our texts and calls. He never explained why he didn't show up nor apologize for the delay. He finally finished the job on 30th. So a three day job started on the 19th was finally completed on the 30th, 12 days later. Really wanted to love this business because they're local to my town, reasonably priced, and really nice, so wanted to use and support them. I understand that businesses get really busy and backed up, but after calling and texting for several months to get them to carry out the project from the quote I was given, I finally up. If you can get them to actually do the job you're hiring them for, I'd imagine they'd be great! read more

My husband hired this company to put up privacy fencing on both sides of our property. We received several estimates and Chris' bid and the fact that he was local was the deciding factor. The project came out fine although we needed repairs on a gate soon after it was completed. This is when things started to go south. We reached out to Chris to discuss additional work that needed to be completed and this is when we figured the repair of the gate could be done as well. After multiple attempts to reach Chris (a few months), we finally made contact and obtained a start date in which he failed to arrive and we did not receive a call or text to discuss rescheduling... we got nothing. My husband then reached out again and understood the fact that Chris was busy and even asked if we should look elsewhere. Chris insisted that he'd take care of us. We waited patiently and another 4 months go by. It was my husband who reached out once again and after multiple attempts with his response, "I'll call you back, I'm busy!" we finally scheduled an appointment to have a look. The day of the appointment, my husband reaches out to confirm the appointment and Chris changes the time to later on the same day. He did not show up, he did not call, he did not text. He didn't even bother to follow up the next day or week. We were actually in shock that this happened again. Given all these failed appointments and start dates, we were quite frustrated. All we were looking for is a reliable contractor who does what he says and customer service goes a long way. We did not find that with Front Gate Fencing. read more
