Steve quoted $1,000. His crew showed up and barely ground out the old mortar (going only a 1/2 inch deep before coating the seams with new mortar). I climbed on the roof and noted the shotty work. I called and texted Steve to discuss. He himself said mortar should be no less than 3/4" to 1". FYI, web says 2 to 3 times the width of a joint. Then Steve scolded his staff for telling me that they only did 1/2" (see photo of receipt). Steve was more upset that I knew the truth about the work they completed then he was about rectifying the job. He wanted me to call Champion (another local biz to confirm his story - i certainly wouldn't trust them either). He refused to adjust the bill and threatened to pull his team without them finishing. Don't trust this company! His team was also very condescending. I am very knowledgeable about construction. They lied to my face and were quite smug while doing so.

Ultimately decided to go with another masonry. Way too eager for the work. (And I had other…read moreconsults lined up as well, thankfully.) But Steve had called really late one night to ask why I hadn't hired him yet & asked if I had went with someone else because they were cheaper. I replied yes & even wanted to know who. Steve had added all of these requests onto the quote that I knew were not yet needed & were confirmed by two other masonry's! I get trying to upsell, but don't add things to the quote a customer actually doesn't need right at that moment if that's not what they're asking for! Bring it to their attention & let them know it's something that needs to be watched & eventually addressed, but not at this time. And give the quote for what 'is' needed instead of trying to scam them out of more money for whatever reason you may have; no moral, no values, need the work/money, etc.!?! The masonrys that I had come look over my place, I questioned them re: all these additionals & said 'both' companies were so honest & said the 'exact same things'; "the majority I didn't need & the rest could just be watched & done if/when the problem ever gets worse"! The one I ultimately chose for various reasons, went above and beyond what they were hired to do & my home looks beautiful again! So the moral of the story is, please get multiple quotes from companies, no matter how small of businesses you are choosing to go with! It's worth it in the end...!

Eddie originally came out to give me pricing on adding cream city veneer to one of our fireplaces…read more The goal was to have it match our other chimney's design. He said it would be basically the same price to get a new chimney because of all the work involved, so we opted for this option. The chimney we were updating had one "band" of design, and we wanted the new design to have 5 or six "bands". Eddie sent an example picture of his work with two "bands", and I said we would not be willing to remove a perfectly good chimney for that subtle of a change. He responded no problem he could do whatever design we wanted and it was last (see screenshot of pic and convo). I offered to purchase the brick/mortar myself, because I was familiar with the one place in Milwaukee you could purchase them from. I sent him a picture of our existing chimney and foundation, so there would be no confusion because he offered to pick it up. Well he bought the wrong color which we noticed when he brought the materials over ahead of time. Instead of exchanging light cream for gray, he said he would be able to fix it. When the new chimney was 75% complete it had one "band", so I immediately called him out and asked what happened to the agreed upon design. He said he couldn't do one, and was unwilling to remove two courses so the chimney could be fixed. It was about to storm, so we were truly stuck. I let a few days go by to see how the mortar dried, and needless to say the gray mortar never turned into a light sand color. He is now quoting us $1200 to fix the mortar. Our house was built in 1890, so we don't want to put our already delicate flue through more demo. I have never come across a more dishonest individual, beware!

While the initial communication was professional, the final result was disappointing. They subcontracted the work, which I wasn't fully informed about upfront, and the quality of the work clearly reflected that decision. The attention to detail was lacking, and even today, if you closely inspect my home, you can still see the inconsistencies in the work. When I reached out to the company to express my concerns--not only about the aesthetic issues but also about water spots and condensation forming on my ceiling--their response was slow. Jeff quickly dismissed my concerns, suggesting I get a second opinion if I wasn't satisfied with their work or that I could refer to the installation instructions. Upon reading the instructions, I found that their contractor hadn't fully completed the job, which added more items to the list. They agreed to come back to make repairs, but the crew that arrived simply removed most of the tape I had placed and poorly applied globs of caulk around my home. I requested another walk-through of my home, and they sent Jordan out. While he was more pleasant and professional, he was still slow to respond and made me feel as though I was asking too much. As of today, four months after the initial work was completed, they've fixed what they could, applied a lot of caulk, and hope they've found the cause of the leak on my ceiling but have failed to address the condensation that forms down an entire exterior wall. Here's to putting this project behind me, while I'll have to learn to accept the poor workmanship, I'm just hoping I don't encounter issues down the road.

First, the work is completed by subcontractors, and while the quality is great, communication is lacking. Jobs are rushed, and details are overlooked. The second job JA HomeWorx completed was at our rental in Platteville for hail damage. The repairs involved replacing gutters, the roof, and some siding. Again, the quality of their subcontractors was excellent, but details were overlooked. The three main issues were that the window flashing was not the correct color, a gutter was placed incorrectly, and water meters were removed and thrown away. They did give me a credit for the incorrect flashing color and helped the city replace the water meters. The gutter issue wasn't fully resolved, but I accepted their solution after it was moved twice. I have attached pictures. The house did not have a gutter running down the front; their subcontractors installed the gutters without knowledge of where the original ones were located. They did make multiple trips to try and resolve this issue, but this job was rushed, and details were overlooked. Jordan admitted that this job was rushed to get it completed ASAP because we were selling the house. The third job was also for hail damage on a four-unit condo building. The one issue was I was promised that we would schedule the repairs so I could be onsite (I didn't want details overlooked again). I was very frustrated that I was not given any notification that repairs were going to be made and only became aware of them when notified by one of the owners who were home.
