I like that they had BAR vendors that had options of non-alcoholic beverages as well as alcohol. Doodles was passing out free ice cream. White Claw also had tasting stations on top of being able to purchase from their tent or vendors that sold it separately (first time trying White Claw) and I buy it again. With 5% alcohol it was my only alcoholic beverage the entire festival, light flavorful taste and nothing to have you buzzing. Like all events there's pros and cons and takeaways. I hated the shuttle service issues 2nd day of festival. Virginia Beach provided school buses and their were contracted private shuttle busses. 3-day shuttle passes were $50 per person. They give you a wrist band you have to wear the entire weekend on top of your SITW wrist band...their were huge groups of people being corralled like cattle into a tight space when trying to get via the maze of the makeshift ride separators to catch the shuttles. No order what so ever...a lot of hurry up and wait. Had us all waiting more than an hour confined trying to make it to the actual shuttles. Mind you they were only supposed to be available up to 60 mins after the final show, so that caused lots of anxiety and panic. Better contingency planning should be done to avoid this issue in the future. Concept was good, just a tad poorly executed. Personally preferred the private shuttles over the school buses due to comfort and actual individual space. Truly thankful for this festival overall for a 3-day music festival it's well worth it. Some of my favorite acts were 3rd Eye Blind,WALE, Jasmine Sullivan, SWV, Summer Walker, Pharrell & Friends and many others. As I rest up for the final day I'm still excited and ready to take in the music for its last day. Enjoyed the drone show also. Can appreciate the drones better than fireworks and feel thats better for people who have PTSD to loud explosive noises. Thank you Pharrell for bringing something of this magnitude to Hampton Roads and continuously bringing exposure, talent and money into Hampton Roads. (We Love You). There's also been no major issues when it comes to behavioral or disturbances. Huge Plus factor to take away. Appreciate Virginia Beach police also for being on top of directing traffic and providing eyes from the roof toops to the ground. One word.... AMAZING!!!…read more The performances, logistics, the vibe, and that "thing" in the water made this festival a huge success thanks to Pharrell and his vision! There were so many elements of surprises throughout the festival in term of the performances that kept us in suspense. So here's a recap of my experience: TRAFFIC: Traffic was actually pretty good moving in and out of the Oceanfront. Even though I stayed at a hotel for the weekend, I still left the Oceanfront a couple of times and again no issues with traffic. TICKETS: General Admission- On the beach, no chairs or shade provided. There's plenty of food vendors to choose from. VIP - A separate entrance from GA that's on the board walk with stadium bleachers along with dedicated food vendors for the VIP section. A bracelet is to be worn during the 3 day event and it cannot be taken off. If the bracelet looks to have been tampered with, entry may be denied. For those who didn't get a ticket, there were still events free and open to the community. FOOD: There were many food options available from local restaurants to choose from such as Asian, Thai, Caribbean, American, Mexican, beer, wine and free water stations. CROWD: I love seeing all race, age and gender having a great time partying. I whined up singing and dancing with so many other party goers because we were all there to have a good time! There were No fighting and everyone was respectful. BUT when there's a popular artist performing that everyone wants to see, the crowd gets real tight to get closer to the front row and at this point no one is respecting any personal spaces. You can be literally on someone's back and someone will be on yours! So if you can't stand crowds, this isn't for you! I even had a moment of anxiety and I had to move to the back where it was less crowded and just watched on the Jumbotron. There were people passing out because of the heat and not keeping themselves hydrated. But with free water stations throughout the festival it can be avoided. Medics were on standby and did a great job getting to the people. PERFORMANCES: Pharrell pulled off this event so successfully! He brought top artist to this inaugural event. And that element of surprise I was talking about earlier was artists like Jay Z who came to the stage to preform!! Also the scheduled artists also brought their own surprise guests! And the crowd goes WILD!!!! VA needed this music festival and I am so glad I was there to experience it. I am so ready for SOMETHING IN THE WATER 2!!!

They don't just rely on cheap…read morejump scares but use a lot of amazing special effects, great actors, and interactive props to really get you into the scenes. And it was so long! I really feel like they give you a lot of experience for one haunt. One of the best haunted house I've seen in awhile and I've been to a lot of them in my travels over the years. As we were dropped off at the curb, we noticed a scary clown waiting for us to come in. As we entered, we walked through the temple and checked in with our tickets. We were then shown to the "lobby area" where they had many tables out and concessions available for purchase. The line was not too long. We probably waited 10-15 minutes. They had us put together with a couple making it 6 of us. We watched a couple videos that explained what to expect. I think it was pretty good. They had a bunch of loud sounds, great lighting and scary props. I do not want to give too much away but I feel like it was put together pretty well. I would definitely recommend going.

I walked in about 30 min into the event and they had LED hula hoops, scarves with colors blowing, random hammock chairs, a town like horse bar, I mean there was a lot. When I mean a lot. .. there is a lot. The one thing you must know is first off its from what I gather a celebration of life, earth, music, spirit of human connection, and just a transcendental experience. Don't come in looking for a list of activities, you have to just be. People would flock in crowds from one spot to another there would be a mini performance, one tent had a wickedly awesome shadow puppet storytelling. At first glance I was mind blown at the intricacy of story and shadow. That was wildly sweet to look at! The food trucks were just 2 and I had the chicken platter and the food was good the baklava was melt in your mouth yummy. The grand finale took me away as there was a giant moon puppet and sun puppet, fish, a swirling lantern show, shadow imagery, it was sweet looking! Please come with an open mind I had to let go walk around, not ask Qs, and take it for what it was. The ladies that would walk song and dance were my favorite they would stop walking do some poses and continue walking in unison. The lantern head people were cool to check out, and the dancing routine in front of the bar with the fairies was in great spirit and energy! Can't wait to see more next year! BTW the band DJP & Mr T a local band played the crowd well at the end and selled merch near stage. I met the lead singer she was very sweet!

Went to this event this past weekend. It was not as crowded as other festivals in town point park…read moreand is limited to only a certain section of the park. It is geared more towards families but it was enjoyable for adults too. They had a Shakespeare rap battle and a performance of Prince's Purple Rain among other great performances. I kind of wish the competitors had been in order of what was on the ticket for sides because it almost mapped out to have all of one side in the same lane to keep track. Also would have wished more cider had been involved as a lot of our party doesn't drink beer. Also would have enjoyed some wine options. Maybe next year there will be some more variety as there was a cidery present and their cider was great. The burger portions were perfect and the lines, while long, didn't have long waits. Vendors super personable and I enjoyed this being a 21+ event. Next time we will bring chairs, but kind of wish there had been more shade that wasn't for VIP.

This is a fun place to visit, especially around the Christmas season…read more I must say I hardly ever step foot in here unless an event is taking place. As a result, my recent visit here was during the Christmas holiday season 2016. During this time, every Friday, Saturday and Sunday the center offers several fun filled activities for the children - well for the whole family. So bring the newborns to great grandmas for a day or two of fun and lasting memories. Events as such: pictures with Santa, arts & crafts, cookie decorating, face painting and ornament making just to name a few are offered in December. And far as I can remember these sort of events have been in existence since the center opened some time ago. You can usually find out about these events online through PortsVaEvents or just by being in the Old Towne area of the city. Circulars and fliers are posted. Again, I haven't shopped nor have I browsed in the center, but from just passing I have noticed different crystals and novelty items are sold here. it's a small house turned into a small shop, very cute. It's also decorated on the inside and outside with Christmas holiday decor. If you choose to not partake in any of the activities, the scenery outside makes for a great background during Christmas time. I'd like to think this place is worth a visit, especially if you are in the area. Oh did I mention...these activities during the days mentioned above in December are FREE!!!! My type of fun!! Parking is available on the street, but if you're one of the unlucky ones, parking garages are within walking distances. And the garages are FREE of charge. The Old Towne area of the city offers several: shops, restaurants and much more. Everything is within walking distance. It's definitely a family oriented town especially during the holiday season. It's a great day to have a great day!!

So my friends visiting from out of town and I drove from ALL the way in Pungo to this - only to find that it's $3 entry per person (no biggie) but is mostly for children, there were no vendors selling anything anywhere, very little food or drink, and the displays are more like the dated animatronic Christmas teddy bears from malls of years past. Maybe ok for small small children, but not something for adults by any means, and not paid entry. Major disappointment. I'm glad this is here for locals and I'm sure it has it's time and place. But the description on the website was completely misleading. We looked around the gift shop and roamed the town before heading to downtown Norfolk for more adult friendly Christmas things to do.

I cannot recommend anybody to visit this museum when they say they are open on their sign out front but the gates are always locked and NO one is there. Also NO one answers the phone, you can't leave a voicemail because the mailbox is always full it's not a business phone it's somebody's personal phone. It's pretty sad we're in the middle of summer when all the kids are out of school and want to visit the museum and yet it's not open during the hours stated on the sign in front of the museum or their website. I cannot recommend anybody visit this museum I've contacted them on Facebook with no replies whatsoever

Planned all week to go here and my son was excited to go for his birthday. Highly disappointed that we spent at least a week looking forward to this, planning around it, AND payed the toll to go both ways through the tunnel just for it to be closed. Our family is in love with The Hurrah Players. We support shows they produce and camps they offer…read moreevery year. Our children have yet to take any classes to date, but my daughter may do so in the near future. The Hurrah Players began back in 1984 with humble beginnings in a church basement in Ghent. The founder and Artistic Director Hugh Copeland has led his team of thespians for almost 30 years. It has taken years of work, strategic partners that believed in them and ultimately Town Bank to put them in their beautiful new historic building in 2010. Hurrah now calls the original Old Norfolk Academy Building off of St. Paul's Blvd in Norfolk home sweet home. A few unique items about the building. It's architect is Thomas U. Walter, the same man who was the architect of the U.S. Capitol Dome. Also Edgar Allen Poe gave his very last speech here. A 100 seat Perry theater for smaller productions is located in the building. Lager productions are a few blocks away at The Roper Theater. The purpose of The Hurrah Players is not only educational in nature through classes offered at their home, but an appreciation for the arts and dance is instrumental to their mission. Through stages show big and small, Spring Break camps and Summer camps they full fill this mission. Hurrah staff builds confidence in the children they work with and at the end of the day a quality, affordable product for the paying audience when the curtain goes up. The show that is currently in production is Hurrah for the Holiday and tickets are on sale now.. Performances are Dec 13,14,15 at the Roper. This is an annual show and never disappoints. The kids do a great job and you will be into the Christmas spirit after attending. Even if you are not a thespian, or into theater yourself, I urge you to give a Hurrah show an opportunity to impress you. Most of the actors are children and put blood, sweat and tears into their productions. I doubt you will be disappointed and most likely will fall in love with The Hurrah Players much like our family has.

For the past three years, my 13-year-old daughter has been attending summer camps at the Hurrah…read morePlayers. Despite her lack of interest in becoming an actress, singer, or dancer, she continues to ask to return. These summer camps are taken seriously and are challenging. The aim is for each age group to put on a play for their parents at the end of two weeks, so the teachers are very dedicated. The kids are kept active and engaged from the moment they arrive until they leave. Though it can be intense, it is worthwhile if they stick with it after the first three days. The students learn about every aspect of the stage, including singing, acting, dancing, and stage production. Many of the previous camp attendees have gone on to start their careers on Broadway or television. I have enjoyed all of the end-of-camp performances, but the most recent one in June 2023 was exceptional. The Hurrah Players is amazing, and I highly recommend it for your children, whether they want to attend summer camps or classes throughout the year. They will gain a lot of knowledge and make great friends along the way.
