I came here with a friend after I had been craving specifically a Reese's peanut butter cup friend-Z for the past few weeks. I know they've closed many Friendly's locations, so I HOPE this one and the Norwood one stays open (the two closest to me hehe). I loveee coming here. I can't speak about the dining-in experience or their food since we only got ice cream (although growing up, huge shoutout to the hotdog + mac and cheese plate, m&m pancakes, royal razz with the color changing straw, and Cookie Monster sundae). Back to the friend-z. It's the best ice cream order ever. It's got chunks of Reese's and vanilla ice cream and some peanut butter drizzle with fudge all perfectly mixed up in a cup and served with a long spoon. Brace yourself for an epic review! I have lunch at the Pembroke Massachusetts' Friendlys location at least 2-3 times per month and have for years, as my office is within walking distance. I was worried for a while because business had really tapered off due to poor service for lack of personnel. Thankfully, I noticed a significant improvement in this particular location starting in January, impressively so, actually. There are now regular, consistent staff members and visible management. Jordan has been my server for just about every visit this year, he greets me, remembers my drink order and even food choices. I mean, the guy remembers I don't like tomatoes, see, impressive. Plus he is super quick and always moving from table to table with great efficiency. Unfortunately, I cannot recall the female manager's name (which I really wish I could) she is always there. She steps right in to help on the restaurant floor, to seat guests and is also often spotted cooking up the orders in the grill area. Now I realize that all this is probably her job description, but she does it, all of it and really well, plus with a bright smile. Seriously huge kudos for this crew! HAIR IN FOOD! Went to Friendly's the other day and there was a hair in my hotdog, I return the plate and it comes back 5 minutes later with the bun removed from my hotdog and the hotdog had been cut up. I proceeded to eat my mac and cheese to quickly find that it was very cold. My thought is that they removed my hair and returned my food back to me shortly after. DO NOT GO HERE FOR THE FOOD. Friendly's is a Northeast chain. Hadn't been since I was a kid, but it's pretty much exactly as I remember it. Very casual food with the primary focus on desert (ice cream). Took my son because we were out and needed to stop somewhere for lunch. Reasonably priced food that no one is going to write home about, but was a good lunch. Best part is kids meals still come with Sundaes that have faces made out of candy, and from 2-5 pm, the 3.50 add-on Sundae for adults is only a buck 75. Ice cream was good. Service was good. Environment: cheesy, old timey, whatever you want to call it; it hasnt changed in 35 years (at least), which I appreciate. The place seemed clean as well. Boy enjoyed himself, I enjoyed myself. The grub hub driver did not pick up the order so we called this location and the worker was incredibly nice, offering to put our order on hold until we could pick it up. What happened to Pembroke Friendly's? We have gone there many times and it was good. Last night we went there and service was horrible, we waited for 1 hour for our food, fries were cold. It is a Friday night in February, I have spent the past few hours introducing my newborn daughter to my mother in law. We visit another establishment for dinner and while the Apple Pie à la mode was tempting, my mother in law paid the check before we could consider dessert. After a good hour of being told the proper way to change a diaper we finally were able to leave. Tired and frustrated from constant commentary on our parenting skills, we begin the trek home. My wife turns to me and says "How about a milkshake before we get on the highway?" Having just gone through pregnancy and labor this was easily the sexiest thing she had said to me in months. As we pull into the Friendly's parking lot my daughter is now all out screaming. My wife gets the luxury of leaving the car to order the milkshakes. I put on the classical radio station, the violent bow strokes of Brahm's second symphony begin to cover up the shrieks. Just as the master of lullaby's helps quiet her down, my wife returns with the sweet treat to salvage my evening. Decided to order from Friendly's tonight and have my food delivered. I went with the Apple Harvest Chicken Salad and a small tomato soup. The order was made for 6pm and they arrived at 5:30pm - which is early but completely fine. They delivered the Apple Harvest Chicken Salad but not the tomato soup. I called the store and spoke with an employee explaining that the soup was never delivered. She apologized and told me that she will send someone right away! Needless to say, the person never showed up and I never received my tomato soup. I will not be ordering from them in the future. It's a shame because Friendy's as chain has an overall good reputation - just not here at the Pembroke location. They came so close to receiving a great review because the salad was actually really good, but fell short with their delivery service. read more

Food was actually OK, but service was awful. Took almost 2 hours from the time we walked in the door and when we were walking out after getting our bill. Waitress actually charged my wife for the cheese on her "Cheeseburger ($1.09). And the waitress told the person in our party who ordered the Lava Cake that she HAD to order three toppings because her computer wouldn't accept the order without it and then got charged 0.99 cents for each of the 3 toppings. Since the service was so bad it wasn't worth complaint for the extra charges. read more

Friendly's has really upped its game lately. Their menu is better and healthier since I last went (several years ago). Our burgers and chicken not only tasted great, had plenty of real meat (4.5oz per burger) and were far less "heavy" than others I've had in other restaurants. Takeout was a breeze. read more

Went there twice within the last month. First time got a turkey dinner and my kid got a fribble and a fish supermelt not too impressed ;turkey dinner was about as good as mid quality frozen dinner; kid said fribble was good but fish melt was soso. Second time got a crock of clam chowder and a chicken rollup.Was like night and day chowder was like an 8 out 10 very creamy ; Roll up was excellent got coleslaw instead of fries and that was excellent as well . my kids turkey melt and fribble was better too. My impression is that certain foods are better than others; and there is a consistency problem when you order anything besides their excellent ice cream products. so keep it simple get a sandwich and ice cream and you will be happy. Love the peanut butter sauce, can't deny it soooo... 99% of the time I get just what I ask for which is really nice and without "judgement " . Recently, they have been so understaffed because everyone was fired - yup an employee told me fired for stealing! So now the dining room has been closed and the outside window wait is super long and whoever is working making ice cream won't even look your way because they are overworked and understaffed. They seem to get a lot of online and doordash ordering that takes importance over people standing there waiting to pick up an order OR place an order. I hope they get more help because it's my favorite Friendly's. I miss stopping in for a sundae because although I love their peanut butter sauce I don't like being ignored for over 30 minutes and then the employee making it wrong because they are so busy. Some fantastic ice cream creations here, like the blackberry sundae. Also I like having the option to sit down and eat my sundae out of a bowl or a glass, instead of a cup. I'm looking forward to trying the loaded waffle fries. I've never had issues with food allergies here. Waiter was nice. My boyfriend, myself and my boyfriend's sister, niece, future bro-in-law and parents stopped at Friendly's from our drive from Boston to Cape Cod. We got there around 9pm on a Saturday and the restaurant was pretty much dead -- my first impression was that it was like a really low class Denny's in CA. Since we were all pretty hungry, we really didn't care and decided to eat here anyway. We were seated right away and were asked right away what we wanted to drink. Three milk shakes were ordered, an iced tea and waters all around. The drinks came out right away. The milk shakes were horrid. Like, really gross. We had to return one since it didn't taste like what we ordered (mocha). The replacement wasn't that much better. For food, I ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger with a side salad. The rest of my party ordered everything from a Chicken Sandwich, to more Burgers to a Grilled Cheese for the baby. After we ordered our food, we waited and waited and waited for it to be brought to us. We honestly waited about 25 minutes for our food to be brought out and we were pretty much the only party in the place. Utter fail. I really dislike when service is like this. Minus hundreds of points because of this. The quality of the food was just "meh". I ate most of mine since I was really hungry, but most of my party didn't even finish their food and said that their food was a major disappointment as well. I really didn't like it. Fail! Overall, this place is just plain bad. We saw at least five Friendly's along the highway from Boston to Cape Cod -- I really don't understand how this chain has so many places open and has survived in this economy. came in for lunch and i didn't want Bk or Mc d's. I ordered a chicken sandwich. The service was good, but the food was not so good. My sandwich had cheese that was burnt into it and the bread very hard. I had to hold the sandwich with a napkin because of all the grease. Went for a late breakfast today. Breakfast came rather quickly. We both ordered French Toast. Every piece was burnt on one side. We waited for 10 minutes until our waitress showed up. (There were only 3 other people in the entire restaurant) When she arrived I told her that it was all burnt. I then explained that we didn't have time to have more cooked. Our experience this time around at this location in Pembroke was much better than before. The waitress was attentive and remembered our orders and everything we wanted on the side. It was nice to see a waitress that actually wrote our orders down (I hate when they show off and try to remember all the orders and then it comes out wrong!) and worked in a timely manner. She even managed to get me a sundae for free because the student we took couldn't have ice cream! It was a nice surprise. Our student is special needs but she didn't act strange like so many do. I have the memories and i love the ice cream....its just not the same as it was when i was a kid. the service was ridiculously slow....like 50 minutes for a lunch??? the entire experience that consisted of an order of 2 meals a water and a soda took 1.5 hours. This Friendly's has come a LONG way recently! I stopped eating there several years ago after getting a couple of really bad meals and the final straw was a rancid corn muffin that the waitress argued was fresh then smelled it and was completely horrified. I'm not sure what got us to give them another try recently, but they've made some very positive changes including a fun new "retro" decor that implies a return to their roots, a more streamlined menu, and best of all: a build-your-own-burger order pad on the table so you can be sure you get a burger that's made just the way you want! We've been there 3 times already since the updates were made, and I look forward to my next Friendly's cheeseburger! The fries are really good, too. Service, however, is still pretty slow so don't go there if time is tight. The slow service keeps me from giving the "new" Friendly's in Pembroke that 5th star. read more

Was in Pembroke today doing some shopping in the area. It was getting late and my family decided to do takeout from here. This will definitely be our last. I arrived early, I knew the food wasn't going to be ready and I was fine with that. The moment we walked in, it's like everyone who was there eating just stared at us. Like warning us to run far away lol The wait staff completely ignored me, they all had angry looks upon their faces. It looked like people had been waiting at their tables for some time and just wanted to order their meals? Maybe after close to 10 minutes standing there; the waitress comes over and says "table for 2"? and grabs 2 menus. No hello, no hi how are you. She didn't even make eye contact. I told her no thank you, that I was picking up an online order. She told me to go over to the ice cream pickup window for take out. Which I did. Just standing there and observing the entire situation, it looked like there was not 1 adult in charge. It looked completely run by miserable teens. I also got to witness 1 of the cooks drinking and eating food with her fingers while preparing meals. It was disgusting. The place was a disaster, I couldn't wait to leave. Our food upon getting home was a jumbled mess. No condiments included. Honestly, I can't imagine this restaurant will last much longer. Which is sad. Friendly's is clearly not the restaurant it used to be over 20 years ago. read more
