I went to this barber shop because a stylist I knew works here now. My first impression is the location; it is really easy to find with a huge public parking lot. Next is the shop, it is really nice! Everyone here is friendly and welcoming!! You do not face the mirror but backwards because you can enjoy the family-friendly movies. I'm very satisfied with my experience at Friendly Hills and will be coming back from now on! Shoutout to Kim! She's THA BEST!!! read more

I walked in and asked if they took in walk ins and the lady told me yes so I sat down to wait. Another gentleman walked in the door and they took him before me because he had a reservation. They did not tell me that I would have to wait an additional half an hour since they had just started cuts for 3 other people wasting my time. They did apologize but will find another barbershop. 190..com. read more

I've been going to Friendly Hills Barber shop for a while now and my son and I love it! This last time I had Nathan cut my hair. I asked for a fade and since I have curly hair I asked him just for a trim on top. He's such a great barber! He was very thorough and when he was done, he had me take a look and my haircut was AWESOME. Go get a haircut from Nathan, you'll love it too! read more

This place is a disaster for haircuts. The clippers are ancient, the shop is filthy, and no one here actually knows how to cut hair. Kathy has no clue how to blend, leaving every cut looking choppy and uneven. It feels like a retirement home--only seniors come here, and every single haircut turns out terrible. If you come here, expect to walk out with a bad haircut. Worst spot in town, hands down. read more

Responding to the woman that got offended with the talk about the Dodgers I don't find anything wrong with what was said It's called freedom of speech actually it's quite Funny. I have been going to This barber shop for years and love the fact that the owners are God fearing wonderful people that would do anything for anyone I can't say enough about the owners or the Shop This shop is Historical it's a Gem. read more

Amazing service, comfortable space, perfect name for this barber shop. Kathy has cut my hair a few times now and I'm still willing to go back even though it's a 15 min drive while I pass so many other barbers on the way. Highly recommend! read more

It's hard to imagine now that I have been going to Friendly Hills Barber Shop since Bill was the owner over on Colima where the larger Chevron gas station is located at Whittier Blvd. When Bill retired (he was also my dad's barber), I instantly moved over to Mike who knew exactly what kind of cut I wanted. Mike has been my barber now for over 30 years and with his business partner Stephanie at the location next to 31 Flavors, I am enjoying the atmosphere, meeting others in the community, and conversations. Nathan is one of the newest on the team with awesome skills and you'll have to ask him about his budding film career as a writer and making movies. You will always find a very professsional crew, great hair cuts, and a good value as well. read more

I arrived early one day and asked for a haircut. The gentleman inside told me to wait while he summoned his coworker. I waited about 5 minutes and in comes an older lady. She asked me to sit and so I did. She then told me I interrupted her lunch. I told her I could jump off the chair and wait, since I was in no hurry. She told me she'll finish later. I thought she was kidding but she kept a stern face and without a chuckle to insinuate she was fooling around. She was truly grouchy. I told her I wanted a medium fade and nothing off the top. She said, " Oh, you want a bla bla bla?" I wasn't sure what cosmetology term she used but I hesitantly and nervously said, "ummm, sure?" She began to chop away and when done she brought a mirror up to my face. I was in dismay when I saw that she chopped off the entire left side of my head, no fade whatsoever and took some off the top from the right side. I let her know that I asked for a medium fade (not that it would make a difference at this point). She told me that I wanted the bla bla bla. So pretty much she made a bad previous haircut into something hideous. I guess I'll be wearing a hat for at least the next two weeks. Perhaps a nap and a lunch would have perked up this woman. read more

Been going to this shop since the 80's. Of course it was then in a different location. The barbers are always courteous ... a general haircut was $19... an appointment is best but they do take walk in's also. Easy parking and they have a tv to keep you entertained while you wait. read more

There's so many barber shops in Whittier now, but I like this place for 3 reasons. First, Luis Chan is an excellent barber and takes his time, even with little kids. (Stephanie is also good.) Second, they make APPOINTMENTS! Other barber shops in area don't make appointments or charge an extra fee for making appointment. Some make appointments and still make you wait. Not here, I've never had to wait for more than a few minutes. Last reason, it's $13 for a cut. You can't beat that. They even finish you up with Suavecito or Suavecita! What I don't know is if they take credit cards. I always pay with cash. Check them out! read more

I've been here a few times. Decent haircut at a decent price. Today, however, one of the barbers started talking about the Dodgers and how he didn't like that they allowed the Sister of Perpetual Indulgence to take part in some event at Dodgers Stadium. No problem with that comment. However, when he said, "I'm surprised the drunk Mexicans" didn't make more of a fuss about it, I knew I would not be going back to that place. Maybe I am making more out of it then I should but too many barbershops in Whittier to have to wonder if they appreciate my race and my business. read more

I will DEF be back! $13 for a phenomenal cut! Took my 4yo to get a cut, Stephanie cut his hair, she was patient and pleasant.. They had toys there for them to play with, and even put on a kid movie! My son loves his hair and I do too! :) read more

Came in today with a last minute call and they hooked me up. The wait is short. The price is a steal for a detailed haircut. Out of all the barbers I've been to and I been to plenty (military), Carlos did an exceptional job. I was sitting next to a special needs child and Louis did a great job on the kid, even when the kid wasn't keeping still he still managed to give this little boy an awesome haircut. I highly recommend this place. *just call in for appointment just in case it's packed. It's that good. Thanks again Carlos, Louis, and Stephanie. Keep up with the great work you guys are doing. read more

Brought our toddler in for his first haircut. We were braced for the fury that he can bring. Armed with an iPad and snacks to keep him distracted we were braced for the worst. We called and asked if anyone at the shop specializes in Toddlers was available on a Saturday morning and they said "Sure, come on in!" We were skeptical but we went along. We are sure glad we did. Jessica was able to take us as a walk in. She got him prepped and went to work right away. He was fussy at first but everyone there assured us not to worry, they get kids in all the time. Jessica did a great job cleaning our little guy up. She was patient and quick making sure we were happy with the results which we absolutely were. Took my son here as my husband recommended the barber Carlos, who he saw years ago. Thankful we did! My son was about to be two! & did amazing here. Carlos was friendly, spoke to my son, mentioned shows my son might like. He was great. His hair came out good and blow dried his hair for me so I can see what it looks like dry so I don't go home not knowing what it would look like which I thought was really awesome of him and it looked great! Definitely will follow this guy if he was to move. But friendly hills barbers I sure know if Carlos leaves a lot of the clients will as well everyone is really friendly and the staff read more

Appreciative of this barber shop being open during the Pandemic. They have pop up canopies in their parking lot and I was happy to have my haircut outside. I already had my mask on, after signing in I was ask to use their hand sanitizer and have my temperature checked. Awesome that they're trying to keep everyone as safe as possible. Their phone is constantly ringing, so its probably best to make an appointment. read more

**3/100 reviews** I am all full of 4 star reviews since 2016 was a good year to try new and awesome things. Since my baby is no longer a baby, he specifically asked for a barber shop for his cuts now vs. mommy's hair salon. They grow up so fast *tear* Most of this reviews are on the might and wit of Luis and Carlos and I am sure they are amazing, I just have never been lucky to get an appointment with them (good indication right?) But I will say that the rest of the staff is FANTASTIC as well so whoever you see, I can guarantee will drop it like it's hot for you. My son has had Stephanie, Jessica, and two other gentlemen cut his hair and they have all been top notched. I think the most important thing to point out is that customer service here is superb no matter who you are and where you come from. I live down the street so coming here is like hanging out in your neighbors garage. They are all local people (it seems) and they know the ins and outs of Whittier and they make you feel like family. Let me tell you, very few places have that quality. Affordable, clean, with excellent employees, this is the where you need to come to get your suavecito hair cut. They are located right behind the Baskin Robin on Whittier Blvd. plenty of parking and walk-ins are welcomed! read more

The only way this haircut could have been worst is if it included a colonoscopy. Buckle up 'cause the story I'm about to share with you is 100% true and not exaggerated. I'm driving by and I figure: "Why not give this place a chance? What can possibly go wrong?" (Little did I know...) I sit down. The barber (an older man) starts with his electric hair clipper to cut my hair - with both hands! I'm wondering: "Has this guy cut hair before? He must have... he's old." Then he burns my ear with the clipper. You can smell the burnt hair. I politely let him know he is burning me. He proceeds to do a sloppy job with the scissors instead and make awkward conversation. The other employee here (a woman) is closing up for the day and goes to the restroom. When she disappears my barber suspiciously looks both ways and asks me what I am paying for my utility bills. After a sales pitch I politely turn him down and the woman returns. Then the woman goes out to take out the trash and my barber suspiciously looks both ways and proceeds to ask what my bill is for my cell phone. After a sales pitch I politely turn him down on his phone offers and the woman returns again. The woman locks the doors and says bye to both of us. She's leaving for the day. Things get really crazy then... My barber suspiciously looks both ways, leans forward, and whispers into my ear the following (verbatim): "Hey how about that Barrack Obama? I heard he's a secret Muslim. He's not even eligible to be president. He wasn't born in America." I then hear a rant about Obama, Obama's agenda to destroy family values, and how Muslims are trying to destroy our great nation. Now... I'm not partisan... I hate liberals and conservatives equally - but I would never force a captive customer to listen to weird rant. This is inappropriate conversation in a barber shop. It gets worse. I try to change the conversation to something more comfortable. At least I try. The best I can do is the GOP race. I then hear a rant about how he doesn't trust Mitt Romney, how Mormons are not real Christians, and how they wear magical underwear. I desperately try to change the subject again. The then moves on to talk about the Jewish conspiracy, the New World Order, the Rapture, and how Obama is the beginning of all of these events that are unfolding. Obama is the beast and we will all have tattoos on our hands that will be required to have jobs. We will be required to pray to Obama's god. Let me summarize this situation a different way: An old guy with a sharp razor to my neck is getting apocalyptic and unstable. Now, I have to admit - At this point I'm almost expecting Ashton Kutcher or Jamie Kennedy to jump out to tell me I'm in a hidden camera show. Before he finishes he insists on getting my contact information so he can sell me his phone service and utilities. It gets worse. When it's all done he thrusts a sharp piece of mirror in front of me so I can see myself. He startled me. "I'm sorry" he says. "I dropped my mirror earlier." I pay him and leave. (No tip.) I just want to get out of there. When I get home I realize the haircut was atrocious. Just bad. I wish Yelp could let me give this place zero stars. read more

Great friendly staff who know how to give a very good haircut. Kim is incredible. She is So friendly and experienced. I will not get my haircut anywhere else. I love how accommodating they are. Visited friendly Hills Barber shop for the first time today and I can't explain how grateful I am to have finally found a barber shop that is truly kid friendly. My son gives us a hard time with haircuts and most barbers don't have the patience to deal with him. Carlos " Los" was so friendly and patient with my son and my son absolutely loved him! He said "I always want him (Carlos) to give me a haircut!" " can we come back here every time mommy?" To hear those words out of his mouth was such a relief and made my day! There was toys out for my daughter to play with while we waited and as soon as we walked in they put on a kids movie for them to watch. We had such an awesome experience here and I would definitely recommend to anyone! read more

Stephanie's awesome. I'm not a regular, although she did cut my hair three times in a five-month period earlier this year and last year. The other barbers' chatting can border on the annoying after a while, especially if you're tired of hearing complaints about people not saying "merry Christmas" anymore--me, I find racism, classism, gun violence, and ostentatious displays of wealth far more troubling and un-Christan than "happy holidays"--but that's why I like Stephanie. She's fast, efficient, and quiet. She'll talk to you, but it's not too personal and not too small-talky. The haircuts are super cheap, so leave a nice tip. What else is there to say? Stephanie's awesome. read more

I had an awesome experience here with Carlos. I am a woman with an undercut and it's always intimidating to go into a barber. Carlos was very helpful teaching me how to speak "barber" and made me feel very comfortable. I love the work he did on my hair and I plan to return. The work he did is very clean, I love the "hard part," and I am loving that he talked to me about doing a design in my hair. I really loved how he took time to educate me in various barbering techniques. I also like how this shop is family friendly. It's hard to take a child to a hip "scene" and expect them to behave but I feel totally comfortable bringing my young kids here. I had my hair cut for the first time at Friendly Hills Barber Shop by Stephanie after travelling all over Orange County looking for an open Great Clips shop that claimed they were opened for business according to my iPhone app. The information was false. Both the Brea and Placentia stores were closed due to Covid-19. I came across Friendly Hills Barber Shop that was opened for business and cutting hair outdoors on Thursday and made an appointment with Stephanie for yesterday, Saturday morning. I promptly went there on Saturday morning and was not disappointed with my results. Stephanie gave me the best hair cut that I ever had in quite a long time -- i was certainly not disappointed. So long to Great Clips (including the store in Whittier), Friendly Hills Barber Shop gained a new regular customer since I reside here in Whittier! I will certainly be back to see Stephanie. But the rest of the staff was nice and friendly and very courteous and welcoming. I went under my real name, "Lloyd" and not under my pen name, "Jason." read more

I went here twice, both times being a walk in. Let me advise that if you don't have an appointment it doesn't really seem like they care about you. The first time I went the lady in the corner cut my hair and I thought she did a great job, the second time I went i figured the price is good, last time I was really happy with my hair so why not. Again I got that same lady, was barely acknowledged by anyone else other than to let her know someone just walked in. This time when she cut my hair she cut it shorter than I asked for, it was uneven in more than a few places, and she didn't even style my hair. I had to let my hair grow out and then have my real barber fix it I definitely will not be a returning customer which is a shame because it's so close to my house read more
