It's been a while since I've stopped by, and shame on me, but I was so glad it was open as I had errands to run and needed a coffee pick-me-up! This drive-thru offers great coffee, awesome flavors, and friendly service. I got the medium Butterbeer Latte made with Irish cream and butterscotch. So so tasty! Loved it! They offer a variety of coffees, chai, and matcha topped with great prices. They do have seating space to go in and enjoy your coffee break if you want, but LOVE the convenience of a good drive-thru! It's in the name! I love my chai lattes and Friendly Bean Coffee did not disappoint. Staff were very friendly and nice. There was no wait for my latte. The place is pretty small with just a table and 2 chairs for waiting, they also have a drive thru which I believe is best because the inside is so small and can't really fit lots of people but I do however appreciate that they still have the inside open for those who are like me and still like stepping into places. I honestly wish this was closer to my house but now I have a go to spot when I'm visiting my grandma. read more

Staff is Personable and friendly, always a great way to start my morning. Lots of fun flavors and drinks. One complaint is the water always tastes so off... it makes me wonder if it is straight from the tap, or filtered? They do have a punch card that keeps me coming back! read more

I really like Friendly Bean. They are indeed friendly and quite possibly the friendliest baristas I have ever encountered. The guy at the window today was no exception, just very lovely. 5 stars for the baristas! The coffee is pretty good. I'm typically a cold brew drinker and theirs is a little too bitter for my taste. I still order it when I'm in the area because it's worlds better than Starbuck's and I love to support local. But hey, if you like blended coffee drinks, or flavored coffee Friendly Bean does those very well. My daughter is a frappe kinda girl and this is her favorite place to get one. That said, I once heard a comic say that the angrier the barista, the better the coffee. Maybe there's something to that. Wow! Wowzie! Wower!!! So glad I stopped at Friendly Bean. I am so impressed with the roast on their beans. Their coffee is what coffee should ALWAYS taste like!!! Along with incredible beans they have a vast selection of concoctions and they even fancy getting you exactly what you desire. I had a lavender, honey iced latte and they PERFECTLY flavored it, not over powering it with syrup and honey. Found my new, favorite gourmet coffee shop North of the River. Friendly Bean is everything good about small business, coffee, and service. I love the punch cards (buy 10, get one). The White Christmas Latte was the best! I really hope they bring it back next December. The fancy schmancy bakery items are gone now. I still miss the cream cheese croissant, but I console myself with muffins. I love this spot! The prices are so much better than going to Starbucks. The staff is always welcoming and friendly. They also have coconut lattes and you also cannot get them at their big name competitors. I always prefer to give my money to the smaller businesses like this one. The one thing I can't get from this shop are the Frappuccino's. That is the only thing my husband orders and they upset his stomach every time. If you live there, or are in the area of North KC and need a quick coffee/pastry fix in the morning make sure you give The Friendly Bean a try! I have been getting coffee in Northland area for a few months now occasionally, and I just stumbled across this place last week. It's now probably top of my list in the area! The drinks are phenomenal - so far I haven't tried one thing I didn't like. The first one I recommend for my cold brew fans is their seasonal Toasted Coconut Nitro Cold Brew, and if you enjoy Chai they are at the top of my list for chais - they offer a spiced Chai and it is perfection in a cup. They offer a variety of pastries on their daily selections, but they also do a daily special which they have a menu out in the drive thru you can view to see which day you want to come back. I have tried the Lemon Lavender Pound Cake, which is heaven if you love both of those things as much as I do, and I ordered a Cranberry Orsnge Muffin today. The cherry on the top, if you aren't already wanting to try it for yourself? The prices are SO CHEAP. I spent $6 on a 16oz drink AND a pastry! Friendly Bean is my go-to coffee shop. Not only do they deliver a great cup of coffee at a remarkably fair price, they also source their coffee beans in a fair and transparent way. They strive to make sure the farmers are paid fairly for their work, so they often purchase their beans at a higher price to help ensure coffee farmers in third world countries are compensated fairly. John, the owner, has even traveled multiple times to visit the farmers that he buys from to cultivate relationships of trust and respect. As if all that weren't enough -- Friendly Bean has donated more than $50,000 in the last few years to help a charity that works with children orphaned by the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Honduras. The prices are very reasonable compared to Starbucks and the service is always so congenial! My girlfriend and I were out running errands and needed a pick me up so looked on line to find the nearest coffee shop. We found Friendly Bean Coffee which was conveniently on our way home. The first impression was not great the parking lot was full of pot holes and in pier shape. Then as you walk to door there is an old newspaper machine with a wet and faded newspaper. Inside the store looked like it had not been thoroughly cleaned for quite some time. The menu was above the work station where drinks are made and had stains from where coffee had been splashed on it. There was a rug in front of the counter that looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in weeks. We still decided to get some coffee and it was good but based on the cleanliness we probably won't be back. read more

Just what the Northland needs! I live in midtown but work in the northland quite a bit and if there's one thing lacking up there its locally owned and operated joints. I'm tired of searching for 'coffee around me' and only getting Starbucks and Caribou. The name really says it all! This place is loaded with direct and fair trade coffees, teas and other goodies. Like most of these places the owner has been to the plantations and visits the family's that directly touch and impact his coffees so his passion and care radiates throughout the shop. The friendly staff and instant recognition really start your visit here off with a since of belonging :) The drinks are all very affordable priced and the smoothies are simple and delicious! They make allot of the baked goods in house and even offer a frequent shoppers card. By the way, when you order a large to enjoy there you better be prepared for a Giant ceramic mug that makes you feel like you should be sitting on a Colorado back porch. Overall the coffee is pretty good, the prices are just right and location is right where it should be. Also there is a EV charge point at the Price Chopper right behind the shop. read more
