My husband and I recently decided to remove the stucco from the back of our Philadelphia rowhouse and replace it with siding. Although we had not had any water coming in, when our neighbor removed their stucco we could see that mold was within a foot of our house. We decided to use Friel Plastering. Mike came to the house and explained the remediation process they use. I quickly learned the difference between doing a repair and making sure that remediation was done. I was impressed with the system Friel uses to allow the water to drain away from the house. Mike was great at explaining the process. He made sure to warn me in advance of the mess created when stucco is removed and assured me repeatedly that everything would be cleaned and "made right". The crew erected scaffolding and arrived early every day and stayed late. The stucco was gone in no time. In removing the stucco they found an area that was wet. Dennis came out the next day to assess it himself. He advised us that our shower pan was leaking and we should not use the shower before it was fixed. Thank goodness they noticed this before it had leaked through the ceiling. Throughout the process Mike was always available. He responded immediately to every phone call or text. Even if it was simply to allay my anxiety over some small issue, he never lost patience with me and readily explained every aspect of the work. I love the hands on approach that Mike and Dennis have to their work. They make sure they personally inspect the work as it's being done and then again when the job is finished. We couldn't be happier with the ways the house looks. And I rest better knowing that we don't have mold growing behind the wall. read more

The end result of our new siding looked acceptable and there is no visible water damage after the first few months of new siding. The crew was kind enough to remediate the interior damage that was created as well. Overall I find the work acceptable. Be careful in your dealings with their "director of business development" Mike. A bit more professionalism would have gone a long way. At times it felt like he was taking us for a ride. We had a quote for the work but had a few open questions. We never signed a contract. Mike got the go ahead to start the job from the relator from one member of our association, not an owner or any legal authority, to start the work. I learned they started a $50K job from the neighbor noise complaints and before we had any signed agreement or owner approval in place. Once the wall was ripped off I was told they discovered horrible water damage and that "I've been doing this a long time and this framing job was the worst i've ever seen". I was told I'd have an assessment and a quote of the new scope to remediate and a quote and explanation. I was told "dont worry I have a guy". Then they sent an invoice for an additional $15K of new framing after they sealed up the wall. When I questioned what was done and why $15K I was told it was done "at cost" and if I didn't like it he would "rip it all out". Before the job was finished I was getting persistent calls and messages for payment. But the work was not completed. It escalated to receiving a threatening call on a Sunday evening for payment (no i will not give you my social security number over the phone). I documented and wrote out all the details as to what exactly needed to get done and in the end the job was performed to satisfaction and payment was processed. In the end my concerns were addressed and the work was completed adequately. Keep an eye on the progress of the work. Don't give them the greensky or payment approval until the work is complete and dont fall for the "dont worry I have a guy" read more

Old school work ethic?? Treat customers with respect? Treat our customers with respect?? This is the single worst company I have ever dealt with. Do not believe ANY good review -- they are bought and paid for. This company is horrific. It has been nearly two years since they started the neighborhood stucco remediation project (they left a year ago) and I still have a window that was installed broken that has not been replaced - and I'm one of the lucky ones in the neighborhood. The entire neighborhood of Oakwood at Plymouth is up in arms and asking about suing this company, and the residents here will confirm how unprofessional, rude, and incompetent this company is. We have a neighborhood Facebook page that for the last year and a half has been filled with scathing complaints about the job this company did and the people who run the company. This company and especially its owners care nothing about the getting the job done well or on time (in fact, they don't care if it ever gets done) and the owners threatened me and harassed me.One of their self-identified owners called me a little queer, an other kept lying to my face about the work they were going to finish on my house and everytime I tried to talk top him a bout it he said he never spoke to me before (this happened at least four times), and BOTH threatened to beat me to a pulp (Denis and Mike). This company is deliberately incompetent and cares nothing of the quality of their work, and as soon as they are 3/4 done they completely disappear. Do not hire this company. I've been told that there are 3 'levers' when picking contractors. You have your choice of pulling 2 of them. These levelers are cost, quality, and time. The customer service is great. The crew is great. They did a wonderful job in a short period of time. Don't mess around with someone who says they can do it cheaper - you are risking complete disaster. Do yourself a favor and don't buy new construction - certainly one with stucco siding, but if you find yourself with significant water damage because of previous missteps - Friel is the way to go. read more

If you are looking for quality workmanship, great customer service, and professional crews, look no further than Friel Plastering and Stucco. I could write a novel on how much I recommend Friel, but I'll try to keep it as succinct as I can. Our nightmare began shortly after we purchased our new construction rowhome, with a roof deck on top, and a small balcony off the third floor. We would randomly get leaking in our bedroom directly under the roof deck, and in the bedroom directly under the balcony, when it would rain. We worked for several years with the builder and another contractor to try and determine the cause of the leaks to no avail. After four years of "bandaid fixes", and the leaking/interior damage getting worse and worse when it would rain or snow, we decided to finally take the wood roof deck off our roof and replace it with a rubber roof. Well that was a mistake....less than a year after putting on the rubber roof, it was literally like walking on a water bed (and the contractor who put the rubber roof on totally blew us off, but that's another story!). We were stuck with an unusable roof "deck", horrible interior damage including mold, and continued leaking every time it would rain. Our ceilings were falling down around us! I reached out to at least 15 different contractors to try and fix the problem. I would either get proposals for another bandaid fix, or proposals that were way out of the ballpark....but honestly, most of the contractors took one look, threw up their hands, and said the issue was too big for them to deal with. It was a total nightmare. Thankfully I made a call to Friel Plastering and Stucco, and Mike came out right away to assess the situation. I don't want to oversell him....but Mike is one of the angels we have walking on this earth, and he single handedly saved me from a nervous breakdown over our situation. Mike and Denis were able to identify the issue, worked with us to come up with an affordable and feasible solution, and got to work. We ended up replacing the stucco on our house with (beautiful!!) Ascend siding. Our home looks better now than the day we bought it, and I have people stop me on the street to compliment on how it looks. But not only does it look great....it doesn't leak! We recently had several back-to-back major snow storms, which in the past would result in leaking in our rooms and me crunching my way through a bottle of Tums because of anxiety, but we are completely dry. It is like a 100 pound weight off my shoulders! I can finally enjoy the home I bought six years ago!! The workmanship is beautiful. The crews are super professional; they arrive early, stay all day, show respect for our home and neighbors, and leave a small footprint. Denis is more than competent with stucco remediation and doesn't try to sell you on repairs you don't need. And Mike is the absolute man!! He is a person of action - you call him, he calls you right back. You have a question or concern, he takes care of it right away. Plus he has about a million connections to people if you need help with other repairs/lawyers/insurance/refinancing/etc. He made it as painless as possible, and is a very funny and warm guy to work with. Friel Plastering & Stucco, by far, was the best experience we've ever encountered during a renovation project. Their attention to detail, craftsmanship, recommendations and approach was nothing less than 'world class'. I don't write many reviews for any company experience, but I couldn't pass on writing this review. Most times, I'm having to keep a close eye on any crew we may have hired for a project to ensure they clean up after themselves at the end of their work day. Not once, did we ever have to remind the Friel crew. They took great care in protecting our shrubs surrounding the perimeter of our home during the job and protecting our paver walkway with drop cloths and taped down plastic. Any pieces removed from the legacy installation, that was to be either reused after the renovation or disposed of, were all neatly accounted for in our garage that we temporarily provided to them during the project. We had a combination of stucco and stone applied for our renovation. Both were masterfully done with great, unexpected details added to our delight. What also impressed us was their unselfish, willingness to work alongside other contractors who were also on the job for other tasks, making way and adjusting their work in order for others to complete any small task that may have been needed. Truly team players. Haven't figured out yet how to post 'after photos', but will and include them. We already have received numerous comments on how our house now looks. Terrible experience with Friel Plasering and Stucco. The job was not done correctly and caused severe water damage and black mold all over the house. After bringing it to Friel's, attention he refused to come back to fix the mistakes that were made. Very unprofessional! I highly recommend NOT using this company. read more
