I've been seeing Jacob for luthier work every month since sept. 2025. A total of 7 stringed instruments, 2 -6 string acoustics, 2-12 string acoustics, 2 electric guitars, and 1-uke. Complete set-ups on all. And some repair work also. His prices are very reasonable , his work superb. That's What kept me going back​. He explained things perfectly,and very giving of himself to his customer's. I will continue giving him my instruments in the future. So don't frett. Brought my mandolin to Jacob at FretboardRehab for a setup and restring. Mandolin was buzzing and action was on the high side requiring more finger pressure when fretting than was comfortable. Jacob is amazing! He went over the entire mandolin checking all the problem areas. I tried the mandolin when I picked it up and no more buzzing or vibrations. I want to say thank you to jacob and Johnny for the awsm job they did on my dads 1962 (hagstrom) GOYA bass guitar. this thing was a wreck and the body had to be completely restored! the bass looks great!! This place is great and it is the only place that I will now bring my guitar. Jacob, the owner, is truly the "guitar whisperer!" I had brought my guitar to a chain guitar store for a set-up and a tweaking of my high E and B strings which just didn't sound right to me. When I got it back, the problem had moved along the neck and still wasn't right. The "tech," who sits behind a glass wall in the corner and is difficult to talk to, was not happy that I brought it back and quickly did a half*ss fix which only made the problem worse. I decided to just take my guitar elsewhere. I did some research and decided to bring my guitar to Fretboard which had all 5 star ratings from over 50 people. I am so happy I did! Walking into Fretboard, I felt like I was in Santa's guitar workshop. The atmosphere is very open and inviting. So different than the big box chain store. Right away Jacob welcomed me and I felt at home. I told him what happened and he immediately set to work on my guitar. He explained what he was doing throughout his work and told me things about my guitar and its tonal qualities that I never knew. He is very sincere about making your guitar sound its best and he stands behind his work. Jacob is a master guitar maker who has the education, experience and equipment to make your guitar sound its very best. I was actually amazed at how good my guitar sounded when he was done. Jacob is a great luthier, and I don't mean he'll 'fix your guitar'... he brings musical things to life. I've had a couple 'mission stupid' projects that I've brought to him; one was a dead tube amplifier that I knew nothing about and I couldn't give him any information - it is now a glorious sounding voice from the past. Most recently, I brought a 40 year old lefty Stratocaster to him with the hope of converting it to right hand play; he took it apart to verify it was original, told me the story of the guitar by reviewing it's individual parts, thanked me for bringing it in and said he'd call when she was done. Two weeks later, I received back the best guitar I have ever owned (and I've owned some very good guitars); the guitar plays like an old squeeze, sounds so very wonderful, and is so gorgeous (his assistant said 'she' was beautiful, and meticulous polished it). It's difficult to explain, but it isn't that he did a great setup, he handed her back 'alive'. I love that guitar and have my hands on her every chance I get. Wonderful work Jacob - you understand your clients quirks and address them appropriately; I used to work with a very good luthier in Manchester back in the day, but you are definitely the best luthier I've had the pleasure to work with... what luck! read more

Jacob has done a couple guitar jobs for me: one was a complete refretting of a 1974 Yamaha acoustic guitar my father used to gig with back in the day. Another was a semi-hollow Ibanez electric that had a jack malfunction during a gig I was playing. It could not be fixed at home, so I brought it in to him. He did a great job on both the repair and setup of the guitars. I highly recommend his services! read more
