I have been a regular customer of Fresh Street in West Vancouver for six years now. I haven't felt the need to offer any comments until Trump imposed his latest round of proposed tariffs. I feel that Fresh Street really needs to step up in the "Buy Canadian" department. More labelling on Canadian products would be helpful and more sourcing of Canadian goods is required. We don't need four bins of American Apples when two bins of Canadian apples would do. We all need to make some sacrifice since Trump declared economic war fare on Canada. A grocery store for the locals living in West Vancouver. Prices are on the higher end. Groceries here are fresh looking. Meats are somewhat double the price of other grocery stores. Fresh St. Market has their own delivery team. Meaning that they don't rely on third party delivery apps. They do deliver to the West Vancouver neighborhood. The prices in this store are more often than note, $1 more than any other grocery store including all North Vancouver grocery stores. At a time when prices are becoming more important to people, you might do some price checking yourself, then choose where you shop. There produce is much more than anything found in Kin's Market or any other grocery store plus the quality is suspect on occasion. read more

My favorite market they have giant creme caramel the size of a cake just the way i love it i could eat it everyday wish i lived next door!!! They also have my favorite wine gums but still pricey compared to iga or save on. Nice selection of deli foods and nice and spacious with a nice decor and good lighting a must for a pleasant shopping experience staff are nice too read more

I really like this market in general. The layout is great, the selection is decent and the staff is friendly in every department except for the deli. I have a serious beef with the deli. *grin* There's one fellow who understands how to cut meat, lay, stagger, repeat and wrap it properly. He's the only one. I wish I had his work schedule so I could only go when he works there. The rest... wow! Here's an exhibition of some of the worst customer service I've ever experienced, including lack of attention to detail and exceptionally poor listening skills. It's not a busy counter either which doesn't surprise me. I recently moved into the area and have been there 5 times. My requests are simple. Please slice thin. I get 300g of meat in 6-8 slices!?! Are you serious? I don't need to add a doorstep to my kitchen, just a thin layer of meat in my sandwich. I have no idea what the hiring policy is for this department, but clearly 90% of these kids have never been to a real deli in their lives. Packaging cold cuts is a simple task: spread the sheet of brown paper, slice meat into other hand, lay flat, slice, lay flat staggered and repeat. Why staggered? So that you can easily peel the meat off when you're making sandwiches early in the morning before going to work. What do I usually get? The whole thing piled on top of each other, pressed down so when I unwrap the package, there's no way to peel off slice by slice, I have to tear and shred the meat off to make a sandwich which drives me nuts. I want to take the manager and staff to a proper deli so that they can witness this simple process firsthand. The next gripe I have is what happened to smiles in the deli? The butchers across the way are awesome. They will go out of their way to make sure you get exactly what you need and always do it with a smile no matter who is working. Back in the deli twilight zone, I get full on "eff you" attitude. What gives? I've lived in London, Manhattan, Montreal, Toronto and San Francisco and I've never come across this kind of blase attitude coupled with total ineptitude before. I don't care if you're grumpy, at least take pride in what you do. I'd fire almost everyone that I've encountered at the deli. My suggestion is to get this sorted out soon. I don't have the patience to tolerate this rubbish service. I will go to a proper deli like Bosa Market if this continues, even though I live in Caulfield. Yes, I will also pick up the rest of my shopping there and along Hastings which will likely save me a lot of money, cost me some extra time and be less convenient. I'll benefit from better quality produce, expert warm service and most importantly: no more frustrating tearing away at a pile of deli meat to make my sandwiches before going to work meaning I get to start my day with a smile. read more

And I'm not just saying that cause I work there. Come see for yourself. I can honestly say it's Cartman's worst nightmare. Fresh, organic produce that's as locally sourced as possible at very reasonable prices. You'll find a fabulous selection of truffled delights (truffled pecorino cream comes to mind), specialty jellies/sauces and a fanatic selection of olive oil and balsamic vinegars. You'll find ground bison, duck breasts and marinated steaks. There are gluten free muffins, breads, crackers and cereal. A shelf dedicated to various chia seeds, hemp seeds and kamut flakes. A wonderful pseudo-fromagerie. A fantastic selection of Ocean-wise seafood and the best mushroom caps in the lower mainland. Own your kitchen...like a boss. And for lazy days, you'll find a nice selection of heat and serve delights: scotch pies, butter chicken, quiches, gorgonzola mac and cheese. There's also a daily selection of fresh made soups (wild mushroom's the best) and a rockin' salad bar. Get a dozen baked goodies and you always get the 13th one free. Buy 7 made-to-order sandwiches (at $4.99) and you get the 8th one free. There are complimentary umbrellas for customer use, car service and home delivery. It's actually a store concept that succeeds as a destination shop as well as an everyday, corner store in the neighbourhood. And that's speakin' as a customer. Truly awful experience in produce section. The guys standing over there have no idea of the prices in their website! They even make fun of me as a customer which was very offensive. The price of item at checkout was 3 $ more than label and the excuse was: The label is for yesterday and has not been changed yet! Will never ever shop there again. read more

For $5.99 they make a pretty decent pesto chicken sandwich. Overall this is another one of the chic grocery store with mildly overpriced items. The ordering logistics for their sandwiches needs improvement from order to pay & pick up. read more

A previous reviewer Tasty, made an excellent point and described the exact way we feel at their deli counter. It truly drives me nuts when you order thinly sliced parma prosciutto and receive a decimated pile of meat that resembles a mince more than slices of an expensive product people take 2 years to make. I mean, show some respect for the food you are selling, come on! The store is otherwise stocked well and generally fairly priced, but with Whole Foods and now Loblaw's in the neighborhood, they need to hire some serious staff, educate them on the importance of delivering a pleasant shopping experience as an integral part of the product they sell and build a culture that people will identify with. Love this place. I don't live on the North Shore, but I will travel to come here. Produce - fresh. Deli - fresh, and a wide selection of prepared food. Butcher's station, seafood, etc. - fresh, lots of great marinated options to take home and take credit for. Extensive grocery selection, frozen foods. Basically a one-stop-shop. My only complaint is that there isn't one in Vancouver. read more

For an upscale lookalike, they've got some good deals here. But for the most part, prices seem to bethe same, judging from Breyer's tub of ice cream for $8. Very bad experience at the Deli counter this morning. I was blatantly ignored twice. A male employee observed me waiting but went ahead and served another male customer who arrived after me. When I brought it to his attention he just shrugged. Discrimination against Seniors. Totally unacceptable customer service. Sandwich Deli used to be pretty good. Has gone down hill in recent months. 50/50 chance you'll get a good sandwich as it's VERY dependant on who is working behind the counter. Quite often the bread is stale as well. They used to give a reasonable amount of meat in their sandwiches, but they weigh it separately now. I have been getting lunch here a few days a week wince the store opened as I work near by. Won't be in the future as their sandwich deli is too inconsistent now. read more

@FreshStMarket has a good selection of #glutenfree items & it's not over the moon expensive either. I felt as though I had shopping therapy for groceries, my visit was so satisfying. No crowd, great customer service and plenty of good food for my dollars. At the front there's a prepared food section, good to know if you want to stop in for a bite and they've taken the time & effort to have on offer plenty of foods for people with 'issues' like myself. Wellness/Vitamins section hired a new employee (reg. holistic nutritionist or RHN whatever that is...schools aren't even accredited fully yet) and was eating behind the counter in full view. Actually had the gall to mention it and tell what they were eating along with a recipe. i don't care for a recipe..just want to see professionals who are hygienic. Obviously they need to rethink who their HR person is! Bright side: she was quick to offer assistance after she wolfed down parts of her snack. read more

I am torn about this grocery store. It's very clean and they carry a great selection of seafood and organic vegetables. It's never been too busy when I come here and there have not been long line ups. Sometimes they carry fruit I don't usually see in other places. The cashiers here though are very young. They are constantly chatting with one another and are not interested in the customers. For this reason I probably won't be coming back. read more

This is one of those typical 'doesn't have it all under one roof' stores that is abundant in West Vancouver. So one is forced to go somewhere else to get what they want, thus adding to the North Shore's rampant traffic woes. I also find it odd that a Western chain store (Safeway/Sobeys) closed and a 'mom & pop' one took its place. This store somehow seems smaller and is quite cramped...And kinda looks unfinished inside. It's eerily dark in some areas. Safeway was twice as bright, as corporate stores tend to be. (Maybe this place needs sky lights?) I will say it has a better bakery and produce section than Safeway did. And better customer service. I just wish West Van could have a large 'one stop shopping' grocery store. But people insist in spending more on gas and driving over to North Vancouver. Mark my words...In ten years, the North Shore's traffic will be among the worst in the world. Finally West Van has a new larger grocery store and replaced the old Safeway (so glad this one is gone!!). I like the nice layout and the ambiance and it certainly doesn't look like a factory inside (neon lamps and vinyl floor tiles) where I couldn't wait to leave. Everything seems to be fresh and it has quite a variety in seafood, meats, breads, pastries, salads, etc. The staff is very friendly, I also like the patio outside! I've moved to Coquitlam last year and wish this store would open up here, we still have Safeway, PriceSmart, Thrifty's (very overpriced and poor imitation of Whole Foods). Since I'm often in West Van I definitely will shop at Fresh St. Market, wish I would be closer :( To all the grocery store planners in Coquitlam, please do your surveys and assess your demographics - not everyone likes to shop at PriceSmart, Safeway or Asian grocery stores, built some of the newer style grocery stores here which have a pleasant interior and you enjoy shopping for groceries as if you are at a market, we have enough of these soul-less big-box grocery stores. There are a lot of things to recommend about Fresh Street Market, however, organic produce is not one of them. I live in West Vancouver and have been going to the store since it's opening, I don't even bother looking at the very small organic section anymore and buy produce at Whole Foods or Safeway. This doesn't seem possible, yet, not once has there been a head of kale that is not wilted or yellow (crawling with tiny bugs another time). The "Market" makes up for it with an incredible homemade Borscht, best macaroni salad, and organic maple syrup that is $10 less a bottle than the same brand at Whole Foods. read more

When this place opened it was great. And in many ways it still is but the bloom is falling off the rose so to speak. The selection of products remains absolutely fantastic as do the prices... if you can find the prices. Too many products don't have shelf labels or the labels are in the wrong place. For the first many months, every staff member in every department was swiftly attentive to customer service. An added delight was that they were all clearly having fun a work! Sadly the above seems to be changing. Fresh Street seems to have a lot of new staff, some of whom don't seem to know what they're doing and appear a bit stressed. Apart from the shelf labeling issue, the whole store is beautifully merchandised with an enormous selection of gourmet products. I know they'll push things back up a notch! What a marvellous store compared to a dirty Safeway with dowdy unhappy staff dressed in unkempt dirty looking brown uniforms. Don't let my review prevent you from shopping at Fresh Street. It's a terrific Store, currently having late teething problems. read more

As a grocery store it isn't bad. Prices can be cheaper than Whole Foods or more expensive depending on the product and sales. Not a big selection of organics. Where it fails is in the deli where they have lovely sandwiches but to get the grilled version you line up to get the ticket the cashier needs, then you go pay, then by the time you get back to the deli, the sandwich I wanted was gone. Its the most time consuming convoluted process imaginable. I've tried during the day and they stop serving by 3pm but today by 12 the sandwich I was ordering was there one minute gone the next. Out of the five or six times I've tried to buy a chicken pesto sandwich there, I've succeeded once. Go somewhere else for that part. Groceries are easier. read more

Ridiculously overpriced vitamin store. I can buy twice the size from Vitasave for less money. No one is ever in there should you need help. The bakery people are very helpful, so I guess that makes up for it. There is an organic area with not much selection. My main problem, as with the IGA along the street is attitude. It is clearly "just a job" to most of the employees, who are more interested in themselves than actually helping. Most of them haven't a clue what they stock. read more

FRESH STREET MARKET WHAT A WONDERFUL PLACE!! I went in there the other day as I'm organizing a baby shower and the staff was phenomenal! The floral department was my first stop and Cort was very helpful he helped me pick my flowers gave me ribbon samples and ideas they were on point! The bakery department , was also very attentive Nico and his pastry chef Sylvia were very helpful and gave me a variety of recommendations and were very accommodating with my requests and made sure they would make my cupcakes happen. My next stop was the meat department what a beautiful case for their meat! And they were very organized and also helpful I ordered some sliders and they made sure I remembered my buns!! Also the deli department was also great to me Greg was very helpful and excited he gave me many suggestions and had such a positive attitude and also made sure all my requests were met! The store manager Justin was also outstanding I needed mason jars for centre pieces and he brought me a variety of samples and gave me suggestions on what would look great and he definitely knew what he was talking about! He then went to get all the mason jars I needed and wanted to purchase what a great help! He was very energetic and accommodating! My last stop was at the cashier her name was Kim and she has outstanding customer service very friendly and kind she was also a very good packer and a pleasure to talk to! This is the best grocery store I have ever been to they go above and beyond for the customer I truly felt like a VIP. What a great experience I will definitely be back to this place and I will recommend it to everyone!! read more

I've been a Yelp 'reader' for a long while, but have never felt the need to post a review. That is, until now. I went into the Fresh St. Market in West Vancouver yesterday as I needed to get some grocery shopping done and it was the closest place around. I went in expecting a "Whole Foods" quality experience, with Whole Foods prices. They're definitely on par with Whole Foods in the pricing department, but the quality of their food is nowhere near the same. Bought some hot dog and hamburger buns; used them that night and they were rock hard and tasteless. I could barely use them today. I bought a couple salads (red potato and broccoli) from their deli counter. For the price, I expected something really tasty, but what I got was a sub-par potato salad (even when compared to your run-of-the-mill pre-packaged variety) and an even worse broccoli salad. To top it all off, other than a nice man at the meat counter, the service was abysmal. The guy at the deli counter couldn't even be bothered to put the salad into the container neatly (strands of shredded carrot were coming out of the lid) and the girl at the cash was mostly focussed on chatting with her co-workers. I was really hoping for a win with this store, but it's just not good. read more
