So as long as you are on the watch out for foods that are way past their sell date, yet still available to buy. And being accused of being a thief if their faulty security sensors go off. (Funny story being it went off with me at the checkout, the arse behind me advised the cashier where I might be keeping stolen goods. I followed their 'orders' I explained that the sensors were faulty to hear the reply 'no they are never faulty' I pulled out my diplomatic id & suddenly she agreed that they were faulty most of the time) The student cashiers are friendly & have not grown into the 'dealing with customers is a hassle I can deal with grumpily' They make up for the shelf stickers who barge you out of the way to do their jobs. Like I said it's a necessity that you've gotta live with unless you have a car or are willing to handle the 2 mile trek to the wonderful Delhaize at Hankar.

This is a great market to pick up your water, beer, sauces, chocolate. I was staying nearby at the Dominican and picked up water, chips and several different of Belgian beer for my room. Chimay. Duvel, Westmalle, Rochefort Brewery etc. This is a two story market with narrow aisles. Get lost in the aisles and discover some great Belgium finds.

Their layout for cold/ freezer goods is also a bit weird, in that those products are found in 3 separate place. So the lettuce is towards the entrance, the fish and poultry is towards back of the store and then the frozen vegetables are on the right towards the exit. There are also only 4 check-outs too, so always expect a long line to pay, if you decide not to use the self-pay line.

I am giving this shop 2/5 stars for convenience and proximity, and they normally stock most of the items that we are looking for on a daily basis. The missing 3/5? Well, this shop is so badly run that from time to time I swear not to shop there again. At times the shelves looks like the shops in Eastern Europe before the Iron Curtain came down, empty, chaotic.... The shop by the looks of it only employs students who haven't been trained and has no interest in their job, stacking shelves is something that is done when the shop is full, of people! It defeats me, why stock the shelves when the customers are already there? And this is not just a one time occurrence, it is basically every day. Another scary thing is that you often see highly reduced prices on perishable items that are approaching or on "last sell by date", poor management.... Management, are you there?
