They have a pretty decent variety of items, especially considering the "express" title. However, that same title serves as a warning, because some items (e.g. Meat) can be very expensive. read more

Brussels is an expensive city for the budget traveler. Besides getting fries and waffle,…read moreeverything else would cost a pretty penny. Don't despair, Carrefour is in town. This is a great market to pick up your water, beer, sauces, chocolate. I was staying nearby at the Dominican and picked up water, chips and several different of Belgian beer for my room. Chimay. Duvel, Westmalle, Rochefort Brewery etc. This is a two story market with narrow aisles. Get lost in the aisles and discover some great Belgium finds.

My "local" grocery store while staying around the corner of Place Jourdain. It's pretty standard,…read moremuch bigger than it looks from the outside, standard pricing. Lots of organic, gluten and grain free options, but at a fraction of the price of the organic/bio street across the way. Do I love it here? No. It's crowded, always busy, lineups (although they do open more tills regularly). Let much every time I've been in here though, the lineups expend down the aisles and you can't get from point A to B. Claustrophobic? Don't come here. The staff rarely say two words to me, even when one of my cards didn't work. I replied in French, but, they pretended not to understand me. I'm aware she understood, she just didn't like that I was holding up the line. That's cool. Just know you don't need to speak French here, even though few of the staff seem to speak English. Do I love it here? No. It's pretty chaotic, empty shelves often, things will be in two, sometimes three different places (like pickles). But they've got great hours, they're relatively inexpensive for Brussels, and they carry more than enough to get a meal going. Plus, they're clean... Unlike one of the big box grocery stores nearby that I walked into and promptly walked out of.
