They do a great job of training new drivers for the road. Most Glenbrook South students and a few…read moreother nearby high school students attend Viking Driving School to attain their permit and eventually learn to drive responsibly and safely. I took their class back in '07 but the staff teachers were more than competent; they had the required amount of classroom lecture time, and they covered all the necessary textbook information about rules of the road, road safety, hazards and road signs. They utilized both written material and classroom videos into their program. As for the actual driving, they have a fleet of fairly new, clean cars with a brake pedal on the passenger side as well (so the instructor can stop the car if need be), and you take turns driving with one of your peers sitting in the backseat. They spend enough time explaining how to start driving, and they teach you the necessary steps to parking properly, and how to parallel park, and so on. When you're applying for your permit, back when I took the class, they also drive you to the DMV in a limo, which was corny, but a nice touch regardless. The only downside is how packed their classes usually are, since there are so many teens that want to get their license as soon as possible. Word of advice, register early and soon, rather than later.
