I stumbled upon this place on accident trying to get out of the cold in Amsterdam and I'm glad that I did! The aesthetic was homey but with a modern twist-I felt like I was in a family members home eating dinner. The service could have been better which was odd because it wasn't really busy. This was my first time trying true Italian pasta outside of the States and now I can't look back. I would for sure recommend this place for a chill and familiar vibe for a drink or a bite to eat.

We did notice a slight price increase based on the way they've changed up the tasting menu offerings since our last visit, but we still had a special occasion meal with a €55 bottle of wine for €180 total for 2 people. To me, that is very affordable for such a nice meal. What we really love is that the menu is changed drastically each time we visit, so we get to try different items and have a new experience each time. The tasting menu options are very affordable as tasting menus go! Our favorites this time were the mussels as well as the tomatoes with dijon ice cream (yes!). For me, the beef cheek was not so nice. But that's what is great about the tasting menu... there are enough samplings to leave full, even if you skip one or two items or leave a bit of food behind (not that my hubby didn't finish everything I did not!). We are leaving the Netherlands this month back to NYC, and this is one of the restaurants we will miss the most! We know we can get a meal of this caliber, but not at this price, in New York!

I started the evening with a ginger mojito which was good though a bit too sour for my tastes. I skipped appetizers and ordered the Spatchcock Rooster for my entree. The fries were fine, but the salad tasted better than I would have imagined for a simple green salad. I'm not sure what they put on it, but it was very good overall. The only low points of the meal was the previously mentioned issues with the mojito and the seats are somewhat uncomfortable. I thought it was just me, but others in my party also made this complaint. All that aside, I'd defitely go to this spot again, and likely will since it's near my job.

Some questions my parents had...Tournedos (the first four options under the meat main courses) refers to a cut of beef; they're also steaks. Gambas is shrimp. When they say potato chips, they mean fries. Eetcafe 't Pakhuis is a little bistro with a bar on Voetboogstraat (Voetboog Street) that's been running since 1975. It's actually pretty convenient if you're walking along Kalverstraat and looking for something quick and filling. I can't say for how they're like during normal hours though. For us, it was late and we'd been wandering all over the place trying to find something to eat that wasn't booked, closed, or has a mile-long waitlist. We came across this place by accident and it was between 't Pakhuis or Amsterdam Grill next door. There wasn't really anyone there at the time besides one or two other tables, and I ended up being pretty excited that they had satay. Indo-Dutch cuisine was something I wanted to try. It was just a bit unfortunate that I was the only one in my group who wanted to, but a delight nevertheless. The two negative points for us is that (1) the place is pretty dim at night and (2) all of our dishes were cool when it got to us. Lighting was low enough that we all took out our phones in order to read the menu and food was cool that I'm pretty sure they'd been left out to sit for a while. Not completely sure why they're essentially called the Warehouse Eatery(?), but it was good, hardy food and their main courses come with fries and a salad. The combo makes for a solid plate of food. From what I could see, they had multiple rooms and many, MANY tables. This is probably a safe bet to walk-in at.
