I must've taken a wrong turn leaving Detroit, because suddenly I was in Canada. If you're going to accidentally cross an international border, landing next to a poutinery isn't the worst. Frenchy's sits in a shopping center anchored by a Shoppers Drug Mart and a "Gaming Center" (aka casino). Walking up to the counter, I immediately noticed the lineup of meat choices and toppings. It's the kind of menu that makes you pause for a second, not because it's complicated, but because everything looks like a good idea. All sorts of protein options from Chicken to "Montreal Smoked Meat". I got the Gyro. Ordering was quick, and the food came out fast and fresh. The gravy was the standout. This wasn't that fast‑food slop. It was beefy, rich, the kind of gravy that actually tastes like something. Combined with the cheese curds and toppings, it made for a proper Canadian comfort‑food moment. And the portions? Massive. The kind of serving that makes you wonder if you accidentally ordered for two. Frenchy's is definitely playing in the "feed the masses" category, and they're doing it well. I took half my order back across the border for later. Bottom line: If you find yourself wandering into Windsor, intentionally or not, Frenchy's is a worthy stop for that authentic Pountne cuisine. read more

When in Windsor for an hour and hungry, there's no better option than Frenchy's for some outstanding poutine. Their gravy is on-point, and the suggestion of adding mushrooms and onions was a great call. Super nice dudes who take great pride in their craft. It is a cozy industrial cool joint with a super relaxed vibe. Best poutine I've had outside Quebec. And they have a great selection of non alcoholic beverages too. read more

Don't hesitate - just get it the Frenchy's way! Burgers were delicious and cooked to perfection. Frenchy's way just puts the burgers in a category all its own, can't describe it. Poutine was outstanding and a small was huge! Bonus points for offering red pop. Place feels like a bar but the food is much better than typical bar food. Went in specifically for poutine on a quick day trip from Michigan and was not disappointed! read more

We got in right before the lunch rush, it seemed. Ordering was easy because their menu is simple. You either get poutine or sliders. You do get to add a bunch of toppings on either poutine or sliders. I wanted to go relatively simple so I just got some jalapeno peppers on both my small poutine and small (order of 4) sliders. What I noticed comparing to a few places on the south side of the border that offer poutine was definitely the differences in the gravy. I don't know enough about how Canadians make their gravy, or maybe it was just the Frenchy's way, but the flavor of their gravy made the difference. In a good way. Fries were obviously nice n crispy since we ate them immediately after ordering, even with tons of gravy and melting cheese. Sliders were decent, too. I liked how the buns were toasted with a nice crunchy bite to them. Not sure I would order them again, only because the poutine was much better, and I'd rather fill up on more poutine in the future. I'd definitely go back to get more poutine. read more

This right here is peak Canada. Whenever I am in Windsor it's a requirement to stop in and get some poutine. The small is plenty big enough for one person and has two layers of fries, topped with curds and gravy. They do really well with making sure the beef gravy is piping hot enough to melt down the cheese curds and give the fries a great flavor 5/5 would recommend to a friend read more

Trying the poutine and it did not disappoint! We are only in Canada for 24 hours so we had to try THE Canadian cuisine, it did not disappoint! It was a lot, so I am surprised people eat this all in one sitting but hey, they obviously do! This is a pretty small shop so it seems like people usually take their food to go or you share the table with other guests, true Canadian hospitality! read more

Outstanding food and friendly service! Our group ordered a variety of items -- grilled chicken sliders, a grilled chicken sandwich, a crispy chicken sandwich, and a burger, all done the Frenchy's way. My family and I LOVE Frenchy's! We live in the USA about 40 minutes from Windsor, and it's totally our must-stop restaurant when crossing into Canada. The service is always top-notch, the portion sizes are quite large, and the flavor...now I'm craving poutine again! For me, it doesn't get any better than the classic poutine with bacon added. A regular size is plenty of food for two people to share. The ambiance is nothing too fancy. Seating is adequate for the times we've been there. This isn't trying to be an upscale restaurant. You go here because it's the best first (and second, and third, and fourth, and...) poutine experience. read more

Living near Detroit you can easily look across the Detroit river and see Canada. I have made a couple of trips over to Winsor and in terms of food unique to Canada I always think of poutine! I checked around yelp for a place in Winsor and seemingly through what I saw online, Frenchy's seemed to be one of the favorited picks. One thing to note is that since this is located in the downtown area of Winsor the only options for parking were street parking. We came in and it gave a hole-in-the-wall vibe. We had decent interactions with the staff members there. The seating was quite limited (Like 2-3 tables in the whole restaurant) and we had to wait a little while for a table to open up. We tried some of the popular poutines and it was okay overall. read more

SO very tasty. Perfect fries, deep rich gravy, and meaty cheese curds. Many other topping options but you can't beat the original! Great service amidst a casual funky dive-y ambience. read more

Very good poutine! Huge portions and friendly staff. The place has a "loft" vibe and a bar, which makes it even better.

This was a fun place to try poutine. We got a variety of things. One order of traditional, one with gyro, one with bacon, and one plain fries. This was our first time having poutine and I didn't realize the cheese curds are not fried. Everyone liked it. I would recommend getting smalls of each item so you can try a few different items as portions are pretty large. The guy working was very nice and helpful. read more

Yummmmm! Frenchys is awesome! Came here last night with a couple of friends after getting our butts kicked at casino Windsor and I have to say that we completely forgot about losings after one bite of frenchys poutine! I got a regular with bacon, mushrooms and jalapeño and it was delicious from start to finish. They really load the carry outs up! We also got a four pack of sliders- we ended up doing all gyro with tons of toppings and it was so good. Only bummer was they wouldn't let us pick different meats per slider it all had to be one type. Frenchys was delicious, can't wait to come back next time I cross over! read more

This food was great! We grabbed our food to go and ate outside. I'd definitely recommend plates, wherever you eat, as the trays are packed pretty full and the food is generally messy.. The credit card machine tricked me. It asked if I wanted to pay in CAD or USD. I picked USD, bit realizing it added a 4% exchange fee. Be careful what currency you select. read more

This is a MUST stop if you're coming to town... In fact, it has been the only reason I crossed the border at times. When you get a poutine craving, anything else will disappoint. My advice: small is big enough for two people but you'll never agree on toppings so everyone gets their own. (Toppings are endless!) I'm a veg, so no pulled pork or bacon for me.. my fave: mushrooms, black olives and banana peppers to add some kick. Dig right down into the middle where the curds got a little melted and mix it up. Open late because they taste even better the later it gets ;) read more

Poutine was amazing! Gravy was flavourful and there was a ton of cheese curds. Portions are huge and service was excellent.

When in Ontario or nearby Detroit, a hearty serving of poutine can be found right here for an extremely reasonable price. On my first day in Detroit on business, I decided to travel over to Ontario for a quick tour. While it has never been a must see destination on my list of places to visit, when closing enough, it fell into the why not category. So I did. In doing so, I had the urging to research a few options for dinner. Admittedly, I stopped at poutine and was relieved that Frenchy's was super easy to find and quickly realized, it is quote popular. The options were all tempting and made choosing just one difficult. With the help of the very patient employee taking orders, I chose a popular item and grabbed a seat until it was ready. A few minutes later, I was gulping down my meal as it if were my first in a week. If in the area and up for a quick good bite, definitely worth checking out. read more

Had to eat poutine while visiting Canada! We came in right after they opened at 2:00pm. The establishment could use a little improvement, it's a bit smokey inside but the food was delicious. They have tons of options for toppings (smoked sausage, pulled pork, bacon, onions, jalapenos, peppers, etc) and they also have sliders. Very affordable pricing and you'll definitely be full after eating even a small size poutine. read more

How can you say no to a poutinery? It's good but not great. The ratio of fries to gravy and cheese curds is a little heavy on potato. The styrofoam containers they use have such a depth of fries that the toppings don't get down to the bottom and after you eat the recognizable poutine, you'll have an entire side of fries. On the bright side, the prices are great and service is quick. read more

Great family-owned place run by a super nice guy! Loads of options, if you want something different than the run-of-the-mill curds, fries, and gravy. My husband and I were in Detroit for a long weekend and crossed the border just to hit up Frenchy's. Totally overestimated how much I could eat and ordered a large traditional poutine to go. As many others have reported, the fries were delicious, the gravy was delectable, and the curds were on point. Aside, the large should be renamed "Enourmous". I ate my leftovers over the course of the rest of the day. It's dark and divey inside (and they were blasting metal on my visit) but don't let that scare you away. These guys are poutine pros and they serve the best poutine I've had - ever. Stop in soon. read more

Very bland, wasn't impressed with it at all. I love and live for poutine, don't know if it's being spoiled by having so much of it every year in Montreal where the BEST poutine is made. Don't know what all the great reviews are about. Maybe they were having an off night but the gravy didn't have a good taste. Sucks, now I'm craving poutine and I'm still hungry. read more
