So you're on a cruise, and it stops in St. Thomas. You've done the beach days, and all the tourist seem like a waste of time since they only give you like two hours on the beach and then bring you downtown to shop. So you decide to explore the city. Totally underrated city that is very lively. Until my last visit, I didn't even know that they had a French quarter. After walking there from downtown and exploring for a bit, I was definitely in need of some good local beer. This lead me to without a doubt the coolest brewery I have ever been to. And I have been to quite a lot of them. Up a set of steps and passed some skeletons, you will find some beer tanks, a bar, and a couple tables. The couple that runs this place is amazing, and because I am completely blind, they even let me feel both of the beer tanks and feel the hose as beer was being pumped into the keg. I even heard the beer bubble. The beers here are somewhat different from what you would get on the mainland. I highly recommend trying one of their pale ales, not IPAs, just regular pale ales. Far less hoppy and actually have a pleasant taste. No one likes mainland IPAs, we just tolerate them because they make us feel good. So when the hot Caribbean son leaves you in need of a beer, this is the only place to go. read more

Love, love, love this little craft brewery (the ONLY brewery, actually) on St. Thomas. They're a little tricky to find and not exactly what I was expecting but their awesome brews make it all worth a visit! First thing first, this is a production brewery that allows visitors, gives free samples, fills growlers/crowlers, and sells some merch during pretty limited hours. This is NOT a tap room. You can't sidle up to a bar and order pints. A few pointers to make your visit a success: - Check their website for hours of operation. - Once there, head past the cafe downstairs and head to the back of the building. Climb the wooden staircase and you'll be there. You're going to think you're in the wrong place at least twice. Just keep going. ;) - Chat up the owner/brewer. He loves to talk beer and is obviously a master of his craft! - Pray they have the Farmhouse Saison when you visit and ask for multiple samples. Seriously SO good, y'all! - Buy a few crowlers to take to the beach with you during the week. - When you find yourself craving one of their brews and they're not open, head to the Smoking Rooster for a pint... After spending a week cruising around St John in our leased Catamaran we decided to do a brewery tour. We wanted to do a tour on Saturday for 6 of us. So I called and spoke with Terry, one of the co- owners with her husband Kevin. She said that unfortunately they were closed on Saturday. Five minutes later she called me back and said that they would be coming in on Saturday to pick up some beer and could do tasting for us at noon! So accommodating! This brewery is in a small "hideaway". Amazing couple owns and serves. The entry is small and humble. Meeting new faces is the way to absorb the energy. Fantastic microbrewery! I'm a beer snob and wasn't sure what to expect while doing volunteer relief work (JW) on St. Thomas. I was super impressed with Frenchtown. Great beers and a relaxed vibe in their tasting room. It's tiny, but awesome. We had a great time and will be back again before we leave St. Thomas. If you appreciate a good local brew (or like beer in general) this microbrewery is a must. Kevin and his wife Terri run a great business and are so kind and welcoming to those who stop by! My boyfriend and I had been recommended to visit from a local food tour guide and didn't even bother to check the business hours of this back-door space. We walked up the back steps while they were brewing the beer (which smelled amazing) and were taken inside to have a small tasting in the back room area! As other reviewers have mentioned, do not expect a traditional taproom, food, etc. This is very much an up and coming brewery that is set up in what was an old nightclub-turned-advertising business. We were very fortunate to be invited inside and provided with samples of the four beers they had to try...the best of which was the IPA, which lacks the bitterness of its counterparts from the States. Overall, if you want to try some great local beer and meet great people for a unique St.Thomas experience, definitely make this a stop on your itinerary. They are expanding with plans to have a taproom hopefully next year and if we come back to the island we will 100% stop by. Thank you both again for adding this great part to our day! read more

Wow- fantastic nanobrewery. True microbrew fans will appreciate this place. A bit hard to find but worth the tasty reward. Kevin (the owner/brewmaster) gets it! Frenchtown Brewing is an awesome little nanobrewery off the beaten path. It's hidden up a back alley, a short drive from Havensight. When you've been to St Thomas a billion times, it's nice to find something different, and Terry opened up just for us so we could try their three beers, talk brewing, and buy t-shirts. The saison is perfect, and I really liked the brown ale and IPA too. She was super friendly and excited to meet us. Found this brewery on a recent trip to St. Thomas. It was a fantastic experience. The brewery was closed when we arrived, although a number was left to call should you desire a tour. Within minutes, the owner was there and opened up the facility for our small group. The beer was unlike anything that I had experienced in the Caribbean. The selections were a brown ale, a saison, a pale ale, and an IPA. All were excellent, although my favorite was the IPA. I highly recommend visiting this brewery for both an overall great experience with friendly staff, and for incredible beer. read more

As beer nerd's living in Colorado, my wife and I are pretty much in heaven all year round. Some might think a perfect day in St. Thomas is visiting the Caribbean's most beautiful beaches. We arranged our perfect day in St. Thomas around a visit to Frenchtown Brewing. After emailing ahead, Terri was incredibly kind to open up for us during our day there on our cruise. After exploring the shops and markets on a reasonable walk from the port, we were directed to the Pie Whole for pizza and were told to ask there about a tasting. The pizza joint carried all of Frenchtown's beers, but everyone knows a tasting at a brewery and meeting the brewer is better than just a pint glass full of suds any day. With bellies full of the some of the best brick oven pizza I have ever had, we were directed down the alley, up the back stairs, and through an unmarked door. We were in love with the place before we even tasted the beer! Terri met us at the door and led us into their small brewery/tasting room/merchandise shop. We love seeing breweries at this stage and meeting the masterminds behind these craft beers. This was craft brewing at its purest, and we loved every minute of our visit. We worked our way through the Frenchie Farmhouse Saison, the Always 86 and Sunny Every Day Ale, the Hop Alley IPA, and were fortunate enough to taste the brand new Kokomole Porter. Each brew was so intelligently crafted, and offers you a hint of the islands while staying true to its style. We were so pleased to meet Kevin, the brewer. He was kind enough to talk with us a bit and allowed us to rant on about stuff that he knows way more about than we do. We have done plenty of tours, tastings and even know some people in the industry, but Frenchtown Brewing is doing so many things right. We were happy to learn that they have plans to move near the port and expand. There is no luck to your success, Frenchtown Brewing! You are creating great products and completely get it.
