Pant-Y-Gwydr is an hidden gem in the centre of Swansea. It is a family run restaurant that serves authentic french food. It is one of our favourite place to go for a special occasion due to its high standards both in terms of service and food. We have been here already a few times and always left speechless by the quality of the food and service. Read the full review at https://the-perfect-table.co.uk/2025/03/pant-y-gwydr-swansea/

A treasure of a restaurant just a short walk from the centre of Swansea…read more We have visited the Pant y Gwydr on several occasions now, including in party size groups for a birthday and Christmas meal with each visit making us want to go back for more! The owner and staff are so welcoming and always to hand with top ups of water, bread anything else that is needed both friendly but unobtrusive. The food varies from high end duck, veal, steak to filling peasant french dishes including amazing slow cooked belly of port and a huge cassoulet. Starters include frog legs and snails for the adventurous as well as delicious salads etc, I even tried a snail as you can order one on its own, I was pleasantly surprised by the garlicky potato surrounded snail and have since had a full portion. However room is essential for the desserts, they are amazing, I will post a photo of 'le chocolat', the egg shell contains a chocolate fondant then creme anglais and cream plus a mini delicious chocolate tart, white chocolate mousse and chocolate sorbet. Le vanille is a variation of mini vanilla desserts and so on, have a look at their website for more details. Delicious food and comfortable surroundings with great staff gets my top marks

It's about a 15 minute drive from Chippenham itself. It is extremely popular with locals and tourists. There isn't a restaurant like it anywhere else unless you go out into Bath or Bristol? The cuisine is French, and is extremely good. I've eaten in a lot of nice restaurants in my time and this one is on my favourites list. It is here that I had one of the nicest racks of lamb I have ever eaten. Succulent and juicy it was cooked to perfection and not a scrap of meat was left on the bones. Their signature dish are their dauphinois potatoes. Again these are the nicest I have ever tasted. I have tried several times to replicate them myself bit can never do it. They are out of this world! Creamy and garlicky they are out of this world. The whole meal was just stunning. Completely out of this world I thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful. The restaurant itself is nothing too special, a very simple dining room that seats all diners comfortably without being on top of each other. It could do with better lighting and a bit more of a vibrant atmosphere. The staff are very attentive and you don't have to wait long for drinks or food. This is quite an expensive restaurant so it would be for most people a once a year treat unless of course you have pots of money and you can afford to eat there all the time? I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants a venue for a very special occasion. They cater well for large groups and celebratory dinners. The food as I have said is fantastic so you won't be disappointed on that front. I shall definitely be making another reservation again in the future.

Very good food for a good price. Pleasant service and a lovely atmosphere. Relaxed and unrushed.read more

The restaurant is in a converted Georgian building and feels quite homely. The restaurant itself is in a large extension that's quite modern, but warm and comfortable. I started with the seasonal cocktail -apple and cinnamon with grand mariner. Tasty but nothing special-I'm spoilt these days! Our meal was a set five courses, which I found out by phoning up to ask. However, when we were eventually seated and asked if we wanted the wine flight to go with the meal, I asked if I could see the wine list and the menu too first-thought that was a little odd. We sat for a good while and initially we felt a little forgotten about. Nevertheless once the food started coming it was great. I don't think I would have chosen half of it, but it's good to try new things, especially when you know the chef! We chose a nice bottle of Austrian red which went surprisingly well with each course. A fun evening! I would like to go back on a 'normal' night too, although I feel it's a place for special occasions.

There is a car park on site outside although driving into it is one of the scariest driving moments I have had; I drive up the hill, onto the drive and to find the cars parked tightly on a curve. I try and find a space amongst whilst a. not marking my car and b. not hitting any number of the very expensive cars parked here on a week day lunchtime. You can imagine the food in a Michelin star restaurant and of course that's subjective but almost always will get 4 stars from me anyway. For a closet vegetarian (not a huge meat eater) I don't always get on with most Michelins because of their French influence and therefore little or no vegetarian menu. So I often end up having fish as a starter and main course as I did here, as wonderful as it was. The other issue is the desserts tend to be chocolate or fruit based neither of which I am a fan of either but I they bought out a sorbet/ice cream concoction for me. The food as you would expect is perfectly cooked, melt in your mouth goodness. However, to me that's about 60% of the experience, the rest is the service. From the minute I walked in, I a guided to the sofa and offered a drink and then bought into the lounge to await my dining partner. After choosing from the menu, we are effortlessly taken to our table with a view and our knowledgeable and friendly waiter brings our starters promptly. The bill goes over the £100 mark for two but even if it's not your thing, I feel it it's worth doing at least once.

Which translates into delicious accessible French food. I ended up eating here twice in my 10 day trip. For starters, the staff was really hospitable, offering to take my coat and they were always attentive to the little things, like having enough water. They also were very patient in decoding the menu because there was a lot of French. The interior is cozy since it is downstairs, sporting low ceilings, warm brick walls, and a fireplace. I had a lot of food here, but these were my faves: - Baguette (comes with the meal) - so fresh and perfect! Crispy, crackly crust with soft fluffy innards. I could be happy with just their bread and butter for a meal. A sign of more good food to come - Terrine maison (liver pate) - Only order this if you like pate or don't mind the taste of liver. Served with crispy toasts, a lightly dressed salad, and onion jam. Liver pate + onion jam is a delightful food combo. - Scallops & pancetta salad - delicious. Rocket arugula, lightly dressed with really flavorful tomatoes and the right balance of pancetta. The scallops were tender and flavorful too - Crepe aux champignons (mushroom crepe) - Really rich and filling. This could be a light meal on its own. The gravy made it really filling. - Citron tart (Lemon tart) - absolutely winning and beautiful. Tart and bright lemon custard over a shortbread tart shell, very delicately covered by a thin brulee top. Served with a scoop of the sweetest and juiciest raspberries and a mound of fresh cream. It was so good that my dining partner wasn't going to have dessert until he saw it. And then he couldn't resist getting a slice of his own. - Chocolate fondant cake - well executed chocolate lava cake. Definitely a must for chocolate lovers. Only thing I didn't really like was the sea bass (fish of the day). A little too fussy with a whole fillet of bones to deal with. Great for dates or celebrations... or with the waitstaff being so French it could also be fun to come to practice French
