There is a large cheese room with glass viewing area in the main dining area which adds to the ambience. There is plenty of seating to enjoy the limited menu - everything we tasted was delicious. The place was almost full when we arrived and totally full by the time we were served. We had pretty decent coffees with palmiers which were super crispy and perfectly sweet. We actually went back for more. The cheese and ham croissant was flakey, warm with gooey Camembert and a generous amount of ham. I had the braised ox tail on custard which is served with a few slices of fresh baguette. The braised ox was gelatinous and salty, the custard smooth and creamy set into the serving bowl, on top were pickled mushrooms adding a much welcome tangy refreshing way to cut through all the other richness. I'm not usually a fan of micro greens, but these were pretty tasty fresh and added texture. DELICIOUS! I only wish the serve was larger. Will definitely return because I saw many tasty looking soups being served and want to try more.

Being lunch time, I knew we would have no problem walking in without a booking, and I was seated with my friends at a nice long table at the front corner in front of the bar. Our menu's were handed out promptly as we entered and our drink orders taken also a few minutes after being seated. The lunch menu, I found had a little bit of everything French and provided you with savory and sweet crepes, entree soups, snails, cheese or meat sample boards, pate and bread, sandwiches, and delicious French salads. All at a very reasonable price may I add. I decided on a French onion soup, and a sweet crepe with toasted coconut and chocolate sauce. My soup was perfection, as I would expect no less in a French restaurant, and my crepe, was soft, and delicate, and laced with pure sweet sensation. I love the decor, its French and arty, and you truly feel as though you could be seated somewhere in Paris. Great service, and scrumptious food, I will be definitely be back here again. Merci Beaucoup.

Being a Thursday night French Toast were playing. They are a trio made up of the renowned chanteuse Linn Lorkin with Hersh and Peter on accordion & bass respectively. They added considerable authenticity. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was fantastic. I had the snails - so yummy, my daughter the French onion soup - delicious. We both could not resist the Boeuf Bourguignon - divine. We almost didn't have dessert until we spied "le café gourmand" - a trio of mini desserts - crème brulee, chocolate mousse and a crepe plus an espresso and two spoons! Superb and very reasonably priced at $10.50. In fact the prices overall are very reasonable. Just over $100 for the two of us. A glass of excellent Bourgogne Pinot Noir for me and a Bordeaux Merlot for Rebecca completed a fantastic meal. Authentic Paris on our doorstep. The food, wonderful staff, ambience and great music combined to provide a memorable evening. Go there. You'll love it.

As my partner works in Takapuna, there's nothing I like better than making my way down to this little French inspired eatery early in the morning and grabbing some delicious noms to takeaway and head down to eat it on Takapuna Beach. I usually get the brioche crunch and end up with the icing sugar absolutely ALL over myself! It's pretty decadent but I tell myself it's fine, for a treat anyway! They have lots of offerings in the cabinet from filled rolls to little tartlets, and offer coffees and things as well. Make sure to grab some plain croissants on your way out, they are awesome as is, and I particularly like to fill them with lots of yummies myself for work lunches.

La Tropezienne is still relatively new, but it has certainly made a place for itself. It is a lovely little French bakery right in the middle of Takapuna. And with the abundance of Asian food outlets, it is a welcome change. A friend and I popped in here recently after driving past it numerous times and saying 'we should go in there.' It really is very French. With the cute little tables and wooden décor, and not to mention the very French staff, before you even taste the food you feel transported. There are very traditional French cabinet foods, baguette sandwiches, small rolls, sweets, and fresh bread. There is also great coffee. You can sit and eat there or take the food down to the beautiful Takapuna beach just 2 minutes walk away. The baguette rolls that we had were so delicious - just simple ingredients done really well. I will definitely be back.

I was thrilled to have the opportunity to have a date night with my man at this fine dining…read morerestaurant. Settled into a stunning classic Birkenhead point villa, with stylish contemporary decor, I arrived last night for a booking at 7 pm. I was given the option to enjoy a few drinks at the bar, or be seated and order drinks at the table. I decided table, and order's as I was feeling famished! The restaurant was already busy with early birds, so I knew should we get our orders in sooner than later, as being a Thursday I'm sure they would get busier.(I was right as the night proceeded 7 other tables around us became occupied) I loved the sophisticated Bellini I ordered with prosecco; which I matched with the delicious Alaskan Scallops to start. My second course of Market snapper accompanied by creamy wonderful prawn risotto was delightfully tasty and elegantly presented. Finally for dessert I was complimented on choosing one of the best in house the Chocolate Fondant with Lychee and Lemon Sorbet, which was heavenly! My partner raved about his entree of Roast Pork Belly, main of Vanilla Confit Duck Leg, and dessert of Coconut Date Brulee Tart! I sampled all and 100% agree! Just five star fabulous!

Let me tell you why:…read more I was taken here for a 1 year anniversary dinner - my bf at the time surprised me, he raved about this restaurant so much, his parents actually owned the building that this restaurant is at so we were definitely excited to celebrate our 1 year anniversary here. He also had not been here in a while but remembered how good the food was so instead of going to the 5-star French Cafe, we opted for Eight Point Two. When we arrived the owner immediately recognised him and we were promptly seated. Beautiful decor and mood lighting, the restaurant is open plan, modern and sleek. Kudos to that. For food, we decided to go all out and have 3 courses each and also a bottle of red. For starters, we ordered the usual bread and butter. We expected the bread to be warm and the butter to be soft enough for you to get a butter knife and easily spread onto the bread. No, not the case. The bread was cold and stiff and the butter was cold and hard.... un-spreadable. Next we had our entree` which was beautiful by the way, pork belly with apple and pear (?) puree` and crunchy cashew nuts with watercress salad. The pork was delectable and the balance of flavours worked well together. So yes, it did get better ... However when our mains arrived (which was beautifully presented) it was a little disappointing.. We both had the Angus eye fillet, medium rare. It arrived, medium well.. almost well but not quite. This beautiful cut ruined, and was a little dry. Forgive me if I'm sounding so picky right now but when you spend almost $300, you expect perfection. This anniversary affair was like a roller coaster, teasing our taste buds with the heavenly pork entree then crashing down on the main. We should have dined at the French Cafe, we spent just as much dining at Eight Point Two as you would there - and with the French Cafe, they are consistent.

Nestled amongst these is Torchon French Crêperie, a quaint little joint serving an assortment of traditional crêpes and galettes. The six of us stopped here on a Tuesday afternoon at around 2pm thinking we could avoid the lunch hour craze, but the whole place was packed! Lesson learned: it's always peak lunch hours at the Elliott Stables compound! Seating in the Torchon part of the complex is limited and arranged mostly in tables for two, so the waiter took us to a table in the middle communal dining area. Despite being seated away from the Torchon section, service was still very attentive The waiter soon came back and, with his ever-so-dreamy French accent, talked us through the menu. While the savoury galettes and dessert crêpes are the main attractions here, Torchon also offers other French classics, including Croque Monsieur and Boeuf Bourguignon. We all ordered the dessert crêpes, and I chose the classic combination of Lemon and Sugar ($5.50). The crepe was thin and lemony, but not too tart or sweet - my kind of crêpe! The general consensus among us was "oh my god, that was freaking yum" so needless to say, we left with our sweet cravings satisfied. My friend had the Nutella crêpe which, I must admit, I was slightly jealous of, so I will totally be back to try that, as well as their savoury concoctions. All in all, we had a fantastic experience at Torchon. Complete with rustic décor, delicious crêpe and some very charming Frenchmen, Torchon offers a little bit of France right here in Auckland - très bien!
