This past Saturday I walked into the recreation center, stayed for 10 minutes while picking my son up from a birthday party and within that short time period my vehicle's window to my backseat was smashed and my diaper bag with my wallet was stolen. This facility HAS NO SECURITY CAMERAS or any type of security monitoring the parking lot. It happened in broad daylight (3pm) in the front of the parking lot, I have no doubt these criminals target this location because of the lack of surveillance. Now that it's been several months that I've been back, I feel I can give a review. I had stopped going for several years, and went to a couple of different gyms. What's funny if they were only willing to work with me, I'd still be giving my money to them. Now that I've been back at Freestone for a time, they could offer me half of what I'm paying here and I'd turn them down. Here's a list why: 1) Giving my money to the Town, not to a private business. 2) Updated, clean equipment. Not as big as major gyms, but this does not bother me. 3) Running track! Yes, it's 1/12 of a mile, but it's a indoor track so you don't have to be on the treadmill all the time. 4) Rock wall. Since my kids are too old for the child care now, they can do other things while I run and workout. Or they can run with me! There is also basketball, table tennis, racquetball, pool... unfortunately not a swim pool. That's not enough for me to take a star away. 5) Friendly atmosphere. The staff don't have a holier than thou attitude like other gyms. They will talk to you like you've known them for years. 6) They have recycling bins set up all over the place. People exercising use a lot of plastic bottles, ya know. 7) Payment options. You can pay for one day. Or a month, or 6, or even a year. YOU get to make the choice, there are no sales pitches. I don't take classes, so I am not sure what their offerings are in that category. Overall, it's just a very comfortable place, with no pressure. You can go alone or make it a family day too. If you live in Gilbert, I highly HIGHLY recommend you take advantage of Freestone. You get your money's worth two-fold. read more

What an awesome recreation center! Zumba classes are excellent, childcare is great, but what really prompted this review is my time spent with my personal trainer there, Sue Groves. Time spent training with Sue is paradigm shifting. She has the skills not only to teach the practical aspects of exercise, but also the soft skills to help you shift your mindset. I came to Sue knowing very little about exercise and, frankly, with a hatred toward exercise. After a decade of poor eating habits and a sedentary desk-lifestyle she helped me change my mindset about my health. She meets you where you are at and flexes to meet your most pressing needs. She helped me with nutrition guidance and meal planning as well. I never feel embarrassed to ask the simplest of questions. Helping me understand the 'why' and the benefits of various movements has increased my motivation to actually do them, and reap the benefits. She inspires and motivates long term behavior change through her gentle and practical approach. Sue has helped me come to a place where I am increasingly fit, I (dare I say) enjoy (some) exercise and my eating has been revolutionized. All of this change has been at a pace which is embraceable - never overwhelming. Sue is the coach I needed in my corner to help me create a new, healthier life. read more

Having been a personal trainer at a local gym you could say I am a bit of a snob, but Freestone surprised me. I recently moved and Freestone is the closest gym to my house now so I decided to go take a look at it. I love it because it is not busy and it has a good amount of free weights, which I prefer over machines. I wish they had a stair climber but if I really feel the need to work out on stairs I am sure I can find some real ones to climb. Freestone has exactly what I need to maintain my workout routine and I can even ride my bike there! read more

Only thing missing is a pool. Also the track iirc is 1/8th miles, so it takes a LOT of laps to get any real jogging in. Other than that this place is great. read more

The basketball courts never have anyone there probably due to the reason they haven't cleaned the floors in years, you slide everywhere and have to wipe your shoes every 4 steps, it's super dangerous to play here if you are competitive, can't cross over, and have to worry about slipping and falling on your head every-time you jump up to the rim. Everytime I leave this place my hands are literally pitch black due to the dirt and no one does anything about it, instead they worry about if people dunk on their maxi glass rims that are shatter proof. This place is a joke for basketball I probably ran fives 2 times and every single time it's all bums that just mess around. If you play basketball stay away from this place. I'll remove this review once they fix their floors! read more

I've been going to Freestone for about 6 months now and I like it better than any gym I have ever belonged to. The staff is friendly and the facilities are great! They have a rockwall and I have seen kids as well as adults on it. Although....I would never do it! The fitness classes they offer are great too and the times work with my schedule. read more

I was a member of Freestone for almost 4 years. I knew I was getting a great deal, but it wasn't until we moved out of state last month that I truly understood how awesome Freestone is. The ladies in the Kiddy Korner are amazing. They made an effort to know us by name and they even knew my youngest daughter's name before she made her first visit at 18 months. Kiddy Korner was never overly crowded and I had never worried about my children's safety. (I can't say the same for the gyms in my new city.) I took yoga classes with all of their instructors and would recommend them all. Most yoga class take place in the assembly room and even on the busy nights there is more room between mats then most yoga studios. The Rec center has yoga mats or you can bring your own. They always have plenty of yoga blankets, blocks, and straps. I also used the indoor track often. It was always clean and most patrons are considerate about the walk/jog/run lanes. I think every Gilbert resident should have a membership to this wonderful facility. read more

Wouldn't waste the money to go here. The front desk and their little rock wall area employees are rude. I pod for my daughter to go on the big rock wall but she was too light for the rope so it was hard for her to do it. We went to the Little Rock area with zero kids on it and asked if they'd mind if she went on it. They said no it was only for 8-12 year olds. Okay, I get that if there was actually kids in there. But no one. RIDICULOUS. Went to to the front desk to ask about it and they said the same thing. Like I said don't waste the money. read more

Just moved recently and this place catered to my needs. I have 2 kids and they have a daycare center that would watch my kids while I worked out. I opted for the 6 month membership and I thought the price was very reasonable. With that membership, the daycare center was free for up to 2 kids for up to 2 hours. The facility is managed really well (staff are helpful and friendly, bathrooms are spotless). The center has different areas of interest (racketball, basketball, classes, mini track, rock climbing). I have enrolled my kids to various classes that takes place in here as well. The instructors for various classes are really good and helpful. I would definitely recommend this place, especially if you have little ones. It is an ideal place to work out:) read more

Freestone Rec Center is my gym. It has everything you need to work out, get in a great job, sauna and steam room. The rock wall is THE BEST... and I intend to climb the hard center one day! I've been going here since it opened and have never regretted a visit! read more

I was looking for a Zumba class in the area and Selene's at Freestone Rec Center was the answer to my prayers! Literally, after the first couple of songs I wanted to cry tears of joy...I felt like I found the lost Dutchman's treasure :). So Selene's class gets 5 stars...especially if you are like me and like taking Zumba classes that are high energy, play mostly if not all latin music, and do latin dance moves (watered down Zumba = no bueno). For the most part I think it is a really nice facility with a wide variety of activities. I took a star off because the bathroom/locker rooms are in desperate need of a remodel. read more

This recreation center is always very clean. They have a large basket ball court, multiple racket ball room, volleyball net, 1 single studio room for classes they provide for various things, upstairs track that laps around the whole place, day care center for kids,rockwall, pool table, Foosball and ping pong table. The only thing I do not like about this place is the weight center. They have a very small weight lifting center in the corner and it is so cramped and a very odd place for these machines. They dont have much weights upstairs either. But what can you expect when your not paying a regular gym fee. 2 stars for limited equipment and snobby employees read more

Nice facility with a wide variety of activities including 4 racquetball courts, a rock wall, two full size basketball courts, an indoor track, exercise equipment, and a small weights area. They also have a nice kid area both indoor and outdoor. My only gripe is the limited number of weight machines, but the rock wall makes up for up with 4 different levels of difficulty. The best thing about the facility is the reasonable rates, far cheaper than many of the other local gyms. read more

I love the fact that I can take my 12 year old daughter with me to work out, and it's a family friendly atmosphere. You don't have to worry about contracts or sales person pressuring you to renew your membership. It does have limited workout machines compared to regular gyms but if you don't mind that, this is definitely a great place to work out. This place even has a rock climbing wall and indoor track which is enough for me and my daughter to enjoy going to the place. I can even drop off my daughter and her friends at the rec center so they can have their fun time while I can go do some shopping. read more

I would like to say part of the reason I bought my home across from freestone was in part to all of the things that my children can do locally one of them being the recreation center included. Upon my first and probably last visit to the Rec Center I had my kids try out the rock wall where the employees seem to take issue with properly explaining the rules for climbing and dismounting the wall as well as how to strap himself in upon climbing my child did break one of the rules which he said was not explained to him and was basically be rated in front of me and my wife at which point is large Caucasian woman came into the mix who was not an employee and proceeded to racially profile and berate and say disgusting things to my family all the while the employee not saying a single thing. I am unsure with his over-privileged white Gilbert soccer mom had put in her Cheerios this morning but it was a disgusting Display , in front of my and her children of exactly what is wrong with half of the people in Gilbert . Unfortunately I found this out about the Rec Center after purchasing my home. We brought this to the attention of the manager of the Rec Center not only about the disgustingly rude visitor but about their snobby employee they did nothing about the situation and did not do her job properly his basic response was oh well. I will be reporting this to the Gilbert City Council i attended monthly I will also make sure to bring up names as i did get both of them and I do not recommend this horrible place to anybody the weight Center is a joke the place is over packed and there really is not a ton of stuff to do for children between 8 and 11 years old there .
