This is the guilty pleasure of everyone in town. They make everything, and everything is AMAZING. I must say that the cookie monsters are my favorite, but I will not turn down anything you offer me from here. They also have GREAT Parker house rolls and Cheese bread. They open early, (7am) and if you want a breakfast pastry I recommend you get there early.... But like I said they do everything. We picked up two pound cakes and they were delicious. The blueberry pound cake is very soft and full of blueberries (it was our favorite) and the other was the cinnamon pound cake which we enjoyed but was very messy to eat but I would get it again. The store is very clean and I went at an off time and it was very busy. Definitely will be back! read more

There is a lot to choose from. All sweets, not really breads. But u can buy individual pieces of sweets so everyone gets what they want and u don't have half a cake sitting in the frig for a week. I tried the napoleons. Omg! So good! read more

I love Freeman's Bakery! We drop by to pick cookies, doughnuts, etc just as a fun snack with my daughter and we also use them to send "thank you" gifts to our merchants. This has always been a crowd pleaser! The pound cake we had for one of our Christmas parties was so delicious people stayed standing at the counter and just kept eating little cubes of it all evening (Bobby -lol)! I am not sure about Linda G.s experience, but this has never been mine, and I do not think they would be in business for SOOOOOOOO many years, if that were the case! Came here today after a trip upstate. It's like 10 minutes off HWY 17 and I want to make it a stop next time I'm traveling north 17!! Charleston has no bakeries! This bakery reminded me of long island the moment I stepped into it and breathed in the powdered sugar and cookie scented air. I called Freeman's Bakery today and ask them to deliver a Birthday Cake to my daughter, as today is her birthday. The young lady over the phone was very patient and gave me exceptional cutomer service. To top it all off, the manager of the bakery delivered the cake to my daughter today and she was very pleased! I've had much better cakes from grocery stores, other bakeries. Unfortunately, there are few actual "bakeries" in town. Recently had Freeman's birthday cake at a party. It was very dry, compared to a homemade cake made by a fried, which had piles of icing & literally melted in my mouth. The crumbs on Freeman's cakes are dry too. Cheese danishes need more sugar & actual cheese filling. Having traveled, Freeman's assortment is just OK- portion sizes of desserts are small & not cheap. Quality isn't what you'd find if you travel, say to the beach, or Charleston for example. If you're visiting or have moved here lately, you may be disappointed. Recently at Charlotte Airport, I found treats that were AMAZING. For example, a giant croissant filled with almond paste, crumb cakes with mounds of melt-in-your-mouth crumbs & huge bagels that were tasty & irresistible. The price was quite fair considering the quality & size you got- & we're talking "airport food." I gave up on Florence bakeries & order hard rolls/bagels from a company in NY which come frozen/vacuum sealed. They are so delicious & worth the shipping cost. The baker should check out any NY bakery site for an idea of what portions should be- & make their products moister. They'd have a line out the door!! read more

Recall this was a true bakery when I was younger and now it looks more like a gift shop and less like a bakery. Pretty clear there was a change in ownership. We owned a beach house for 15 years and drove through Florence hundreds of times. Never knew about Freeman's until the last 5 trips. Our loss - both emotionally and to our waistlines! This is a wonderful "from scratch" bakery - and there are very few left. Everything is excellent, you absolutely cannot go wrong with anything. (Since in 5 visits I probably bought 20 different items, I am certain - LOL) A few tips - you can buy 1/2 cake, nice for smaller families or to have a selection for a larger one. Cookies are pricey but really, really good, (Hubs is first cousin to the Cookie Monster) and the decorated ones are beautiful. Danish and donuts are yummy. Cute gift section and friendly service. If you are traveling along 95, this is maybe 20 minutes off the interstate, and is WORTH IT. But the absolute BEST OF ALL reason to go here is the German Coconut Cake. Florence is really lucky to have a place like Freeman's Bakery. There may be other bakeries in Florence but I sure don't know about them and after eating here for the past three years don't really care to. This is the go to place in Florence if you need to order a cake for a special occasion. Their basic birthday sheet cake is really good. They will design it the way you want and they process tons of orders everyday based on the amount of cakes they have on the shelf waiting to be picked up. I usually get their cakes when I go. I have had their carrot cake which is very good but a bit too sweet for some people. My favorite is their chocolate fudge cake which I am currently devouring now with a glass of milk. The prices are also very reasonable for the quality of their food. Their cakes are always moist too which is always a big plus in my book. Rarely I will grab a cookie or other treat. I tasted a butterscotch brownie this past weekend which was very good. The staff is always friendly and inviting as well. People are rude. Service is perfunctory at best. Staff is doing you a favor. But I could deal with that if the baked goods were GOOD! The cannolis SUCK. Okay, so maybe they dont know how to make a good cannoli... so I went back because many people said its the best in Florence. I bought an $18 cake. Single layer, decorated beautifully.
