Got this Tik Tok not too long ago about the history of Katy Texas and I'm a big history buff so it was really interesting to me. Learned that the Freeman family were one of the first families to live here in Katy Texas and soon found out they had a high school here named after them. Was promoted to do more research, which of course led me to their ranch ! Seemingly enough I've always wanted to ride horses so I got in contact with the owner and he offered to give me a tour and ride a horse. He was a very kind and welcoming man and gave such a cool tour. Such a fun experience and definitely didn't expect the whole venture to be so smooth, thanks to Mr. Derek and his crew. read more

Robin was very knowledgeable and professional. She's an excellent instructor. She also trains my five-year-old granddaughter, and she has a wonderful rapport with children and adults. She always leaves me feeling like I've done something right and correct anything that I'm doing that is not correctly aligned. She's extremely patient and doesn't mind repeating the instructions. Very happy with my horses care!! I moved my 2 horses to Freeman Stables just about 3 months ago all the way from NY and arrived at 5am and all the workers were already in the barn cleaning feeding and bringing horses in from turnout. In the summer they go out at 4pm and come in at 4am to beat the heat which I love. They were super great with the feeding process when I was transitioning my horses onto the new feed. My one horse had just started to colic the early afternoon on arrival from the long trailer drive and they called me to inform me so I drove out and gave her banamine. One of the workers had even went out at 9pm that night after hours just to FaceTime me to show me my horse was doing much much better and was okay. They all have fans in their stalls and the care is top notch. My horses receive their supplants/meds everyday. I cannot say enough about how well the workers care for my horses. There are many places/rings to ride including a large jump field and the owner allows you to ride anywhere on the entire property which is over 900 acres. Lots of turnout space. The owner is very friendly and he bales his own hay on the property and the quality is very nice. Overall super happy with this barn and recommend to anyone needing a barn for their horses! read more

All those horrible pictures that were posted have been fixed. The automatic waters are always cleaned in a regular schedule, fences are being fixed constantly, horses are horses and do get hurt occasionally my horse has been eating Derek's hay for 1.5 years now, and not a problem. It is a barn, a barn gets dirty and broken now and then. Horses are horses and get into stuff they shouldn't. Some people just want to cause drama! This is a very nice facility. read more

Where to start....Fences not fixed, nails & jagged fence boards cut up our horses. Too many stitches, colic, bad hay he supplies, grain left out in the rain, hay bag not closed so my entire horses leg was in it, thankfully a boarder there saw him struggling. The place floods, high turnover in boarders, stuff stolen, not prepared for freezing weather, owner does nothing, prepares nothing or takes responsibility for anything. Lots of possums, skunks, bees & an occasional snake. In humanity towards his cattle, water doesn't work some times for days, pics on his FB & website are not current by years. Road & parking area is full of holes, changing of feed with no notice, coggins & shot records are not kept up, hell he didn't even know our horse was gone for days due to stitches & colic. We were there for about 2 years & the problems are absurd! Might look good at first but pass on this one! Do your research of current reviews as the barn owner will do everything to have them removed from Facebook & other social media pages. read more

This is an edit of my past review. I can no longer in good conscience recommend this facility. It is absolutely true that my horse was unrideable when coming to this facility, and by the time we left he was completely sound, and that is because he was in fact getting his medication which was not happening at other barns. That having been said, there were a LOT of problems that ended up making me decide to move. I am going to list my personal problems in short form so people don't have to wade through too much information; I know a LOT of other issues with other boarders but this is just the things that I myself experienced. 1.) My horse was trying to commit suicide in a stall after his back surgery and the barn hands said nothing. Another boarder called me to alert me to the danger. 2.) The roof of the adjacent shelter to my horse blew off in a major wind and was hang on by a thread with at least 60 nails sticking out of it, flapping all over the place and threatening to blow off and impale horses in my pasture. It was not fixed for more than 12 hours. I had to call multiple times to finally get it fixed. A horse could have been impaled. This actually happened twice, once in my pasture and once in the adjacent pasture. 3.). Rat poison was put down out in the open where any child or dog could get to it in the bathrooms. My dog brought me the bar of poison. And subsequently ended up in the ER. Rather than use poison appropriately (or not at all), Derek's answer was 'no dogs in the barn'. 4.) The water in the barn broke 3 DAYS before the freeze. I and one other boarder bought 64 one gallon bottles of water from the store and were taking them back and forth from home to fill up the horse's water in the barn. Derek was MIA the entire freeze. 5.) I personally was at the barn from 7 am till 1:30 pm during the last freeze breaking ice off all the horse's water buckets. I WAS THE ONLY PERSON THERE. The barn hands felt it was more important to clean stalls then make sure the horses could drink. After the stalls were done they were gone as well. Derek was MIA the entire time. 6.) The water in the barn was not fixed for weeks after the freeze. Definitely not what I would consider a timely manner. 7.) I have seen horses wearing blankets when it's 75 degrees outside. The barn hands just don't make the effort to take them off if they think it's not their job. I moved my horse because of significant safety issues. I have heard that things have gotten worse since I left. I would not at all recommend this place at this point. As I stated, I know a LOT of other horrible things that have happened at this barn, but these are the things I directly experienced myself. Do yourself and your horse a favor and don't come here. read more

Let me start by saying Derek and Laurie have been helpful and charitable to me the 2 years I boarded at Freeman, so I don't have a personal issue with either of them, but the actual boarding facility and service needs a lot of work. First, the main stable hand has an attitude issue. He frequently cusses and yells at boarders, no matter what the issue is. He refers to several boarders as "crazy b*tch" or "stupid b*tch" or any mixture of similar words. Don't get me wrong, he can be incredibly helpful but we walk around on egg shells with him. You never know when you are going to get yelled at/cussed out and most of the time it is over tiny things. He wants you to tell Derek when your horse needs something but also gets mad if you talk to Derek. It's very unprofessional and causes a stressful environment for many of us. With that, if you get on his bad side for whatever reason, your animal receives minimal care and many times misses out on medication, supplements, etc. Second, the main stable hand loses his temper with Derek almost daily and vents to the entire barn about how terrible the barn is. Again, makes it so uncomfortable for those of us unfortunate enough to be in the area at the time. Third, stalls are gross, super unlevel, and dusty. When I left, I pulled up the stall mats we had to buy to help level her floor and we found rotten feces all over the floor. It was disgusting!! Some of it wasn't even under the mats, it was just sitting beneath a layer of shavings. Not to mention the shavings used change frequently and caused my horse respiratory issues. They have giant shards of wood in there I always had to comb through, find, and throw out. The stall she was in had such a deep hole in it that it caused chiropractic issues and changes in her hooves. The stable hand did his best to level it but it needed to be refilled with dirt and compacted down which is not a service this barn provides, at least it was not offered to me or any other boarders that I know of. Fourth, the hay provided is very low quality and contains several toxic plants. Several boarders had it tested at A&M and have the actual results for proof. It caused 3 colics in my mare before I finally had to stop feeding it and buy my own hay. So every other week I had to drive 35 minutes to Steinhausers and drop $150 on hay just to feed my horse when I already paid full board. (Many boarders have to do this) I then had to store said hay in a community hay stall and my stuff was repeatedly stolen. The stablehand informed me that a boarder helped herself to my stuff quite often and nothing was ever done about it. Fifth, It didn't matter how many facebook post requests, conversations with Derek, yard signs, or locks I had, my stuff was constantly messed with, stolen, lost, broken etc. It got to the point I wasn't sleeping at night because I was worried I would come out the next day and find more stuff missing or broken that I could not afford to fix/replace. Sixth, it used to be part of board but now apparently it's $200 extra a week to have supplements given to your horse according to the stablehand, so if your horse requires medication or supplements, don't count on it getting done as part of board. Seventh, arenas flood super easy and it lasts a long time so if training is important to you, during rainy season the arenas are practically unusable. There is a pasture arena but people ride on it when wet and rip up the ground something awful. There have been plenty of times the holes created from riding when wet were so large my friend's draft horse would trip in them, even with his giant hooves. Eighth, there have been several barn emergencies resulting in a loss of water at the barn for days and one time over 2 weeks. Several of us boarders were out there pulling 12 hour shifts making sure horses got water and most of that time, we didn't even see the barn owners out there. Few times they left town. So while BOARDERS were trucking in water on our own expense, lugging buckets of water to and from the barn to pastures, the barn owners were no where in sight. It was a horrible feeling to have over 50 horses' lives on your hands that you didn't even contract to take care of. I could go on and on about my issues with this facility, but it's only stirring up the frusteration I have felt for so long. Bottom line, the place looks great on the outside but there are many internal issues that drive a person mad over time and nothing is ever done about it. Derek and Laurie are very sweet people but it's to a fault. Boarders break rules and pretty much do whatever they want without consequences. Unfortunately, money is an issue for them so money talks very loudly and is often the reason so many terrible things exist, bad boarders aren't kicked out, and many fences/shelters aren't repaired correctly, if at all. Just to be clear, I am the person that Shawn is referring to. Unfortunately for you, Shawn, you just don't know how a horse business works. First and foremost, the safety of the rider is of the utmost importance. Having your grown (21) son come and ride in the mud and wet was not in anyone's best interest. It would not have been positive or successful for him. Secondly, as a client, you unfortunately have to follow the guidelines of the instructor and business you are hiring. Horses have their own brains. Even though I believe to have the best schooling horses there are around, they are still live and large animals. Having a dead beginner in very bad footing conditions is not a great way to start. Be grateful that I had his safety in mind. Yes, you absolutely bought a four lesson package. However, that does not entitle you to decide as and when you will come. Oliver and I set up a time and he didn't show up. Plain and simple. If you do that at a doctor's office, you get charged. If you do that at a dentists office, you get charged. If your kids are in gymnastics, ice skating, tennis, piano lessons and you don't show, you still have to pay for that time. My time is money. And as I am the one that had allocated that hour for Oliver, I am the one that was stood up. There isn't a business around that would refund you for that hour. Nor would they refund you for the 8.00 in fees that I had to pay due to sending it incorrectly. If a business did that once a day every day, they would be out 2920.00 per year. It's business. I was actually quite out of the norm to even offer the refund. And lastly, I am not in the mind that the customer is always right. Unfortunately, this time, this was not the case. And as I am the owner of my own business I can absolutely decide who I want to be in my client base. And I chose to not need or want the drama of your business. Before my husband and I purchased our property I boarded my horse, Ruby, here. It is a wonderful stable, the facilities are fantastic with many amenities. The negative reviews have nothing to do with Freeman Ranch. The ranch is a boarding facility, trainers there have their own business that is separate from board. So if you own a horse and want a beautiful facility with many amenities including an indoor arena, 2 outdoor arenas, a round pen, and 900 acres to ride on I highly recommend Freeman Ranch. read more

First off I want to say that I wish this could have been worked out with Genna who was my contact with the company. Also I have waited a week to write anything so that I wouldn't be agitated about it. I want to be fair. I bought a four riding lesson package for my son for his birthday. His lessons were going to be on Mondays. The Sunday before the first lesson Genna texted us saying that we would have to postpone because it had been raining and the field was mud. The next Sunday it rained also but nobody contacted us so on Monday we texted before we went to make sure all was well. Genna responded with a LOL text saying that they were a big mud hole due to the rain. That was two weeks but it HAD rained so we thought that was fair enough. That week we were waiting for a text to confirm for Monday but never got one and forgot about it til after the time for the appointment on Monday. My son texted Genna apologetically asking her if we had been on for the appointment. She texted back that he had missed it and that they would need to "chat." I texted Genna asking her to call me and first she texted me that she would but that my son had missed his appointment. I texted her that, yes he had, but that this was partially due to her two cancelled sessions without us having had one appointment and her lack of communication. She called me right away then but before I could say anything told me that she didn't need this kind of trouble and that she would just refund my payment, that she had a great business and didn't need clients that don't show up etc. She was yelling and I hadn't said anything yet. I told her that it wasn't all his fault due to her cancelling the first session, not communicating that she had also cancelled the second session and then not communicating that the third session would actually go ahead. She hung up on me. Genna refunded almost 3/4 of my total payment. I told her that I expected a full refund and she said that she couldn't cover the cost of no shows. She also said that the extra few dollars she wasn't refunding were my fault because I sent her the money through Paypal (her preference) as a purchase and that I should have sent it with the Friends and Family option since PayPal does that for no fee. I told her that I would leave an honest review of her business and warn whoever I could about her. She said "Good luck", that she didn't care about reviews, that she had a great business and great customers etc. So in the end, for the price of a bit more than one riding lesson we got no riding lesson, abuse and rejection from any more lessons. The loss of future lessons was the best part of the terrible experience actually. I don't even see why she needed to get angry at him missing a lesson if she was just going to charge him anyway. If she had been nicer I'm sure we could have worked it out but she just yelled, fired us, and kept our money anyway with abusive words. Please avoid this company and especially Genna. She is the epitome of the bad Mom and Pop shop who only thinks about what is good for them and has no heart for the people they are in business to serve. Shawn Lindsley read more
