I recently went to a concert at the Freeman Coliseum with my wife and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We saw Thee Sacred Souls and the Womack Sisters. The venue is small and intimate. Most seats have a great view. The prices were reasonable. The parking was easy and only cost $20. We were able to hear the performances clearly. We definitely plan to return here for more concerts again! read more

I appreciate the coliseum for its history but its definitely time to upgrade the place. We were sitting in some pretty uncomfortable chairs and the air circulation was not the best. They did manage foot and vehicle traffic well though. I can't speak to the food or drinks because it was a hassle to get in and out of the seats without feeling like an inconvenience to everyone else. They have reasonable parking prices and plenty of spots. read more

Came here this past Saturday for the Garba of Gujarat event. I was invited by my Indian friends to go with them. Parking was really easy which was one of our concerns... we decided to go in one car The layout of the event was perfect too! It was very well organized. I didn't know that the dancing could go until past 1am! For me it was one of these magical evenings! My first time attending an event like that even though I am accustomed to the Indian culture The colors! The dances! The music! The bands! Even the food! Everything was absolutely perfect!... except at the end I believe employees of the stadium were pretty much pushing people out to leave like herd! I didn't like or appreciate that part. There was a lady who tripped and injured her knee she was being pushed out too! No patience! This was the only negative part of the whole event read more

My fiance and I went here a couple weeks ago for the World Oddities Expo. The expo had alot of interesting things for sale. A couple notes on getting there and leaving. We decided to get a rideshare to the event. The driver followed the directions on the screen and we were met with a parking attendant that directed us how to get to the Freeman Coliseum from where we were. We went back onto the road and started following the signs. I looked behind and saw the parking attendant giving the same instructions to the car behind us. If you decide to drive here or take a rideshare, I suggest following GPS until you get close to the area and then follow the signs at the side of the street. If you take a rideshare, the best place to pick up a return trip will be Lot 5. read more

Went to the Expo hall for the World Oddities Expo. We took a ride share and were able to be dropped off right in the front but when we left, but we had to walk out to Lot 5 for pick up which was around the back of the Expo Hall. Lot 5 is a bit of a labyrinth so make sure you are on the right side of the fence for pick up, I've posted a picture of where our rideshare picked us up. The bathrooms were clean and had an attendant actively cleaning. We got popcorn, water and a beer at the concession stand. The beer was expensive at $13 but at least it was a tall boy size. The popcorn had a lot of kernels and kernel skins so it wasn't great and it was a small serving. You'll need to buy beer at the concessions window labeled for beer, the other window is for food and non-alcoholic drinks only. There were plenty of attendants in the parking lot to ask for help and plenty of parking as well. As you are driving to the Expo hall there is good signage to lead you straight to the hall. Overall a good location for an event. read more

We attended the Big Red & Barbacoa festival at Freeman Coliseum. I was happier with the event location this year, much better set up than last year. They offer a lot of food samples and choices for purchase. Inside were the vendors where they had live music, which was way too loud and hard to enjoy, would have been much easier and enjoyable to listen to if it had been turned down a bit and not so echoey. The outside live band sounded great! Fun event but wish there was a little more to do there, especially when it cost $15 to park and we were there about an hour. Hoping next year will be even better ! read more

This place is easy to find since it's right next to the ATT center. Parking was easy as well. I came here this past weekend for the dog show. Admission was free for all and they had different vendors with merchandise for sale. I enjoyed looking at all of the dogs and their handlers from amateurs to professionals. We spoke to a lot of people who were not only passionate about their profession but also the animals, which I appreciated. The center is smaller compared to other areas but the layout for this event worked well. I would not mind going yo another event here. read more

The traffic control is so unorganized that the people made us miss the whole show we paid to go to.

We attended the Yelp Elite event to see Jurassic Quest. Thankfully, my family were good sports, because this was a bust. My twins are teenagers, but they are huge dinosaur nerds. It doesn't seem as though the engineers who put these replicas together love their jobs. There were visible seams where the velcro wasn't secured properly, some dinos had legs that weren't attached in the right places and the place was just dead. I'm sure 5-7 years old would enjoy it but they might also be scared. I don't know, for us, being prior military, it seemed like O-Day gone wrong. read more

Tonight my husband, mom, 12 year old niece & I went to Jurassic Quest. My first observation is that there definitely needs to be more signs up outside. There are MANY entrances to the Freeman Coliseum. We went into 2 before we were actually IN the correct parking lot. Parking is $10. Once we finally found the correct entrance & parking lot we walked inside. We got the unlimited rides bracelet for my niece. Umm... the rides were basically her climbing up to sit on a really cool looking dinosaur & it kind of vibrating & moving forward & backward a little. This might be VERY exciting for a toddler or a child under 7ish. Boring for a 12 year old who wants to skydive with me but we had the unlimited rides bracelet so she tried out sitting on 2 dinosaurs. Jose at the huge Dino Fred was VERY nice. He let her sit there extra long bc there wasn't one kid in any of the lines. This entire exhibit was almost dead. I'm not complaining bc I'm not a fan of crowds but I can understand why. Tickets are expensive! I wish I had taken a photo of the prices. Im pretty sure the unlimited ride pass for 12 & under is $33 at the door. I believe adults were $22. The snack stand didn't even have anyone working at it. The exhibit doesn't close until 8 but nobody was available to buy a drink or snack from at 6:30ish. Quite disappointing. There were many "stations" that didn't have an employee working it (ex: animal art tattoo). The souvenir areas definitely had 2 or more working at each of those. The dinosaurs ARE awesome though. They looked very realistic & I can tell that a lot of time, effort, expertise & money has been invested in this Jurassic exhibit. If you or your child really love dinosaurs, take them. I'd recommend that they cover the front doors w some type of curtain bc the bright light really took away from the animatronic dinosaurs by the doors. We took some fun pics. It was cool to see them. The T-Rex moved AND made noises. My mom got a kick out of it. That was prob our fav display. The staff member holding the baby triceratops was great & he stayed in character holding his "real" baby dino . It looked so real. We took a great photo in front of a green screen that put us on top of my nieces favorite dinosaur & she LOVES it! Bryan B. was very friendly! He told us how to sit, pose & made sure we liked our photo. Great guy! Our last experience was the inflatables & bungee. The guys working were awesome! My niece played for about 15 mins. We chatted w the guys while we watched her & took photos. Thanks to Justin, Tobias & Judah! Y'all were friendly & left a great last impression on us. This was a memorable exhibit. I just think it is overpriced for an experience that was half staffed. As for "rides", there aren't enough for the price. I'm glad my niece had a little fun on the inflatables & tried the bungee out. Animatronics were really unique & the staff that was working was fantastic! read more

I will start by saying I got my tickets for Jurassic Quest for Free from an Elite Squad Event. I went last night with my 9 year old grandson and daughter. Finding it wasn't easy as the signs were very small. When we arrived apparently you need to pay for parking as well, although I didn't due to DV status. When we entered the exhibits of the dinosaurs were pretty cool. I will say that the lighting was very low, I assume to make it spooky or something, so seeing some of them was tough. My grandson blew through the exhibit hall was all the boredom he could muster. We then went to the next area which had dino riding attractions and, of course, overpriced merch. My daughter bought him a balloon for$20, yup 20 bucks for a dino balloon. The rides were, as others have posted, made and meant for very young kids. He was bored. The third area had some inflatables for him to play on as the people supervising stared at their cell phones. Not impressed at all. If I had to pay for tickets I would not recommend this at all. For $22 a ticket go somewhere else. read more

Came here for the Jurassic quest event. Locating the venue wasn't too hard, however it was tucked in the back corner behind the coliseum in the expo hall. There were many different animatronic dinosaurs of all sizes, some of them almost all the way to the ceiling. They reminded me of the kind of animatronics on rides at amusement parks. There were some dinosaurs that kids could actually ride, although it didn't look too exciting, they just went up and down. The spacing for everything was nice and it was pretty easy to stay socially distant. The prices for the tickets were kind of high for what you get to see, most people might just go to six flags for the same amount of money. Especially the souvenirs, there was a plush dinosaur selling over $30, no thank you. read more

Here is my COVID-19 testing experience at the Freeman Coliseum. I will walk you guys through every step of how it works and how easy it was for me to get tested at this facility. Step 1: I visited the City of San Antonio's official COVID-19 page ( covid19.sanantonio.gov ) where I discovered you could schedule an online free appointment at the Freeman Coliseum (drive-thru testing). After you select "Schedule Online at Freeman Coliseum", it will ask you a few questions in regards to symptops and if you've been in contact with someone covid-19 positive. After that, they will send you a link to your email address to complete your appointment and select the time you want to visit. I was really surprised to see how many openings they had, and how quickly I could get tested. After selecting a time, they sent me a confirmation number with my unique patient code. Step 2: I arrived to the location at the indicated time in the confirmation email. I recommend having your email confirmation ready, since they will ask for it at the entrance. After you pass security, you will get to the testing area. Step 3: The testing area is divided in 3 different steps with 3 different "stops". In each stop they will give you instructions as to what to do next and when you can move to the next one. At the first, they explained to us that we need to turn off our car while we do the test, and that the window should stay only 1/3 open at all times. After that, we moved to the second stop where they checked our confirmation codes and gave us the testing kits with some large tongs through the window. In the third stop, they explained to us how to use the testing kit to test ourselves while we stayed inside the car. Step 4: For the testing, they asked us to cough over our right elbow three times. Then use a swab to pass it around our cheeks, under our tongue and in the back of our throats. After that, you put the swab pack into a small tube with liquid inside. Then we shaked the tube for a few seconds and put it back inside the bag. Once your bag is ready, you move forward and drop off your testing kit inside this big "trash can". Step 5: You are done and can wait for the results to be emailed to you! I really hope this review is helpful and will encourage others to get tested. This testing was 100% free and we did not had to pay anything for it. read more

This was the first time I have been in this building in many years. I attended the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo and from a distance the outside still looks extremely old. I know the city spent millions renovating this coliseum so was excited to see what has been done. I somehow entered through the service ramp leading into the floor where instead showcasing rodeo acts it was covered with shopping booths selling a variety of merchandise. In looking around I noticed the lighting was brighter and new seats. It still looked old. I made my way to the concourse area and was again littered with small retailers. I did see new concession stands and restrooms. The signage was also modernized to help you navigate around. The place is not big but I guess can be used for smaller events. The seating was a bit tight. Always though this place would be torn down since the AT&T Center is next door making this coliseum outdated. read more

I'm happy when my son is happy!! He's always been interested in dinosaurs and this made him SO happy!! I don't want to post all the pictures I have because it's not fair to the people who paid BUT it was a wonderful experience especially for the smaller children. There are a lot of exhibits to see and even some Dino riding. You can also buy one trinket's as well as some face painting and fossil digging. It was fun seeing the different Dino's and they had some fun facts about them on the screen only bad thing is they go so fast you don't get to read all the information. I won't complain because my son thanked me over and over again. It was a dream come true for him. They do have a small little truck inside with a few little snacks just in case the kiddos get hungry. It was nice for a Sunday morning. We had fun. I personally think the price for tickets was reasonable. Good time. read more

Where do I start? Attended 2 concerts in the last 2 months at this venue. Parking fee of $15 is expected. Parking is quick and easy and managed well. Seats are tiny and really tight. Not good when you are next to a big person. The XL size woman next to me had to "Rock" (pun intended) back and forth a few times to get up. One of those times she fell over on me and pinned the left side of my body and Her friend 2 seats away managed to spill her beer on my lap. ?? Another big issue is crowd control. If you are more concerned about drinking beer, go to the bar! Leave the popcorn for the movies and sit your butt down. Popcorn and nachos at a concert? Seriously! The issue of people standing around and not in their assigned seats needs to be addressed. It is enough to start a fight if you have to ask someone not to block your view. read more

This is an older facility but it's in decent condition. It isn't in the best area so be sure to lock your car and take your valuables! It gets a bit cold inside the arena so be sure to bring a jacket. The seats are typical plastic seats and not the most comfortable things but they're fine for an hour or two. There's a few concession stands. If you have a food allergy you're better off sneaking in food. They only really have popcorn, hotdogs, nachos and candy. The facility provides catering to those who put on the event. That food as well isn't amazing and there isn't a gluten free option. The gluten free option they gave us wasn't actually gluten free. It was vegetarian which is not anywhere near the same as gluten free. The bathrooms could use a renovation but they aren't the worst I've ever seen. read more

Freeman Coliseum - Stadiums & Arenas Near Me - San Antonio, Texas

First and foremost this is truly targeted for small children. The setup I feel could have been more eye catching. The backdrops to the dinosaurs were very plain as if this was done in the early 90s with no upgrade. The actual dinosaurs were pretty cool but many you can tell have lots of wear and tear. I wish more planning went into to make it like you were stepping into another world. Hang some Pterodactyls from the ceiling, create an atmosphere that you could have imagined dinosaurs truly lived in. Hide the fact that you're in a warehouse looking building. It seems it's meant for quick setup and tear down. I felt the souvenirs were definitely overpriced. The coolest part was the guy talking about the real fossils. All around I felt it was cheaply constructed. Nothing like the videos I saw on YouTube. But for the little ones, like toddler ages, they may love it, but my 10yr old was not impressed. read more

Went to see Katt Williams WWIII tour last night. I unintentionally got there early, 6:40 ish and the parking lot was filling fast. $15 (card only) for parking is excessive in my opinion but I was close to the entrance. A very long line formed quickly as the lot filled (Lot 1). Once the doors finally opened, the line moved relatively quick but I'm sure they're short staffed but not many ticket takers. Concession lines were long, I got a pretzel and water for $9. They poured my water into a cup (all beverages), didn't like that but what choice did I have. I had to walk down a pretty steep incline to get to my seat in Section 6. Those folding chairs are way too close, I had large people on both sides of me so I was basically in a sandwich for the duration of the show. I had on a hat, the guy next to me had on a hat so I was forced to watch the screen instead of the stage to avoid bumping into him. I wish I had say higher up because where I was, the people on stage were ants so it wouldn't have mattered. The video quality could've been better for what the ticket cost! read more

Great experience for all ages from kids to adults! We enjoyed our time here learning about the dinosaurs.

Very disappointed in the lack of communication the security at the Freeman Coliseum provided to schools using this venue for graduations. I asked my family ahead of time if there were issues with me bringing my bag and no flyers were sent out on any parameters. I used to live in San Antonio, and actually drove 20 hours from California to attend my brother's graduation. My own graduation was at this venue. I was really excited to bring my camera and get some photos after the graduation. However, I was told that it was an issue to have my telephoto lens in my camera bag due to it being too big for their venue due to liability. Imm not about to leave my professional camera equipment in the car. I could totally understand if this was for a PAID concert for a A-list celebrity. But, this is for us families to enjoy and watch our loved ones cross the stage. I told them I drove all this way for this big event in our family. And I'm not about to leave my $2000 lens in the car. And if liability is an issue, I have my own insurance that will cover ME. So anyways, I oblige and walk all the way back to my car and put my lens away. I end up consolidating my bag so I'm not bringing in my purse or diaper bag. So I go through the line AGAIN, and now they said my backpack isn't allowed! I was just told that it was just my lens, now it's not my entire bag?! I also had to wait to take my medicine and brought my own water. They told me to get rid of my water and pay for one INSIDE. Freeman C. has been a huge inconvenience! read more

Freeman Coliseum is the step child to the shiny brand new AT&T Center which is located next door. Built in the post World War II boom (think late 1940's) it certainly isn't any sort of fabulous Art Deco design like what you would find in Los Angeles but that's okay because it serves its purpose. Over the decades Freeman has been host to a variety of musical talent, trade shows, graduations and most significantly the rodeo. Last night I drove 90 miles to the Freeman Coliseum to see A Perfect Circle. I love how they don't gouge you on parking and only charge $5. The venue is like a round concrete dome that could probably survive a nuclear war. Holding a max of around 11,000 people you can comfortably watch most bands who perform here as it isn't too big or too small. The security last night was all over the map from stringent at times to turning a blind eye at others. A lot of people crowded near the stage (hey, it's Maynard how else are you going to catch a glimpse of him back there singing in the shadows?) and security was okay for it until about 30 minutes into the show when all of sudden they decided to check tickets to see if you had "front row seating". WTF? It is a rock concert pit. That was super annoying and distracting. Though it's been said air conditioning was invented by the Romans (or was it the Chinese?) hundreds of years ago the Freeman didn't have a/c until 1979. Though you wouldn't have known this last night as it was hot as Hades in there, yikes!! Perhaps they are still working the kinks out of that. Bring a fan. Of course beer and food is overpriced and just average. At least the bathrooms are clean. All in all do-able but forgettable. What was the name of this venue again? Oh yes. Freeman Coliseum. read more

Why do the school's keep having graduation here? Isn't there another venue in San Antonio? A few years ago my brother, unfortunately, had his graduation here. A few years later a family friend's daughter had her graduation here. Both times, it just smelled like dog pee all over the place. I saw that there were several drains in the middle of the corridors, I had the impression that the displeasing scents were wafting out from them. I tried to pay the parking attendant with a credit card and she replied by waving the wad of cash she's been collecting in my face. Luckily I had cash, but this is the 21st century and we have technology to facilitate a credit card purchase. Also, I really hate that we have to pay for parking. I'm sure the schools already pay to rent out the venue, but wow are they really trying to milk you for your money with the food vendors and paid parking. I would never come back here if I could help it. I'm sorry to people who have some sense of nostalgia with the Freeman Coliseum. 6/5/16: Visited the stadium for a High School graduation.... Very nice, clean, large, air-conditioned stadium that is perfect for the event! Parking was easy and event staff were friendly! Updated review 6/7/16: I initially gave a four-star rating, however, my two-star rating is due to a combination of factors. The food concession nachos and pretzels being purchased by several attendees were stale and the cheese was cold. Food was even returned for a refund. I had a funny photo uploaded with a family member trying to tear through the pretzel but Yelp HQ removed it, stating it didn't fall within the guidelines of describing the facility. Additionally, at the end of such a momentous event, event staff immediately and rudely interrupted everyone taking photos and kicked everyone out of the building. Of course, it was dark outside so capturing quality keepsake photos were impossible. I know that these two areas (food concession/security) could possibly be run by contractors, but their participation and workmanship reflects on the facility as a whole. Best of luck to any other institutions arranging to hold their events at the stadium... Hopefully the critical Yelp reviews will aid as a tool to help management make necessary changes to increase positive experiences for future activities! :-) read more

Hubs and I attended the Maluma concert a few weeks ago. My husband is disabled and needs a head start to get to our seats. When we arrived, it seemed like all of San Antonio was there! Worst concert venue ever! I went to see "Bad Bunny" and walked up to the doors the line was so long with hundreds of people outside because you decided to close the doors for "20 mins" due to technical difficulties. Why do we care about your technical difficulties? As we waited to get In to the "one door" they had open on each entrance and "one person" scanning tickets it began to rain heavily. So as were still standing outside completely drenched Freeman Coliseum still did nothing to let people in. Why the hell did you only have one door open on each side, when you had many other doors to open and let people in?
