Viva Fiesta!
This arena is more like a Mexican bullfighting arena than the typical arena we have in the USA for stuff like Rodeo. The design is round, with bleacher seats that surround a sand covered arena for horse showmanship and performances. The bleachers rise above the performance area, with some in the shade, the preferable seats. Across from the seats is an area where livestock or horses can enter the arena.
Outside of the arena are the restrooms and vendors. Be sure to try an ice cold Michalada. Bring cash.
This place apparently has events throughout the year, but they're hardly advertised. Their only big event is twice a fiesta, each Sunday. This is the Day in Old Mexico Charreda. A Charreda is a Mexican rodeo kind of event, where they dress up in their finest dresses and do horse riding tricks to show their grace and elegance. An American Rodeo horse riding is more about how tough, strong, and fast they are, where a Mexican Charreda is more like a dance with a horse. They play fancy music, and the horses do different gaits while the women sit side saddle and do intricate dance moves to the music. It's all really fun! I wish they had more events regularly. It seems a bit like a private club the 51 weeks of the year that it's not Fiesta, and they ought to have more events here. read more
