This theater is located in the Wonderland mall, downstairs by the food court, in the old movie theater space once called The Bijou. How they've renovated the space to house quality theater now is impressive. This place is officially in our radar and we can't wait to experience another show.

The Bijou, which was known for showing more art and independent movies and served food, is now the Wonder Theater. The play was the Wiz and was pretty good as far as community theater goes. Many of the plays for this season's lineup are geared towards children and are affordable. The ticket prices were: $36.00 adults, $26.00 seniors and $18.00 students and children. The lobby, concession stand and seating area have been revamped, and a small stage has been added. Seating is fairly spacious, with new seats and a very clean theater. The lobby area is similar to the Bijou's, with a small full serve concession stand, selling popcorn and other goodies. This locale is worth a visit if you are partial to theater, regardless of it being Broadway or community. Many of the shows are from Friday to Sunday, and are great way to spend the afternoon/evening.

The experience far exceeded my expectations, very entertaining and put on by a diverse and devoted group of people, both on and off stage. Tonight's performamce was Miss Bennet, Christmas at Pemberley. It was very entertaining and also very moving, we left the theater with alot to reflect on and think about. We bought our tickets online at www.classictheatre.org

This is a cute little hole-in-the-wall, black box theater that brings an intimate look into the…read moretheatrical productions it produces. The theater itself is attached to the Woodlawn Theater and shares restroom facilities with the Woodlawn. Running a separate series of smaller shows, the Classic Theater offers a theater-in-the-round experience with the audience seated on all sides of the theater which can allow audience interaction with the professional cast. The seating is comfortable, but you'll need the intermission to get up and stretch your legs as the chairs can get a tad uncomfortable. The theater also allows no outside food or drinks, but does have water and wine for donation (at least this was during the show we attended). Overall, the cast was excellent in Midsummer Night's Dream. They brought a refreshing perspective and performance for Shakespeare's work, which truly showed why Shakespeare should be consumed in theatrical form rather than reading, and the acting was intimate and, yet, bombastic at the same time. The cast really showed skill and thought with each word spoken, and they brought the characters to life while leaving themselves behind. With the theater-in-the-round, they worked the entire room as well as made me feel that the show was put on solely for me. I had had that same sense of disbelief in quite a long time during a theatrical production. The quality of the production also showed. Even though it seemed like a relatively low budget affair, it wasn't lacking the quality of a truly great show. My husband and I are already planning our time back to enjoy another production and we look forward to becoming regular patrons of the arts at the Classic.

With it being such a little stage i did not feel like i missed anything and was surprised how i could still get the feel of each scene. The popcorn was $2 and the water was $3 for a water bottle. outside of the expensive snacks i loved it and can't wait to go back when i come and visit.

I am not by any means a theatre aficionado, but I'm a fan of fun, and this new little "360 degree…read moretheatre" is a blast. A friend got jazzed to see Rocky Horror, so I agreed to accompany. That's how I floated into this magical spot on their second weekend. I was unsure about the location in an old nightclub in a forgotten strip off Fredericksburg, but game for some Sweet Transvestite action. It's a small space; I believe "intimate" would be the proper euphemism. From the start of the show, I knew it would be entertaining, but I was pleasantly surprised HOW entertained I was. The production was spirited and clever and campy in all the right ways. The show was well cast, with the actors all pouring their hearts out, clearly having fun in the process. Being an 'intimate' theatre, the actors were available after, posing for pictures and chatting. That's when I learned a bit of background: the Roxie comes to us via a veteran of San Antonio theatre. The morning after, I did a little googlin' ... check out the Rivard Report's writeup: http://therivardreport.com/the-roxie-360-degrees-of-theatre-one-former-nightclub/ I'm sad the new owners of the Cameo don't get what a cool guy their buddy Jesus was, but there's truth to that "one door closes; another opens" bit; I'm excited to see how Roxie takes on stage in our big little town morphing into a proper city. San Antonio actors are lucky to have The Roxie, and so are we: get thee to the theatre to support this little upstart! What Mixtli is to the San Antonio food scene, the Roxie is to the Performing Arts: it's founded on the passion of a musical theatre geek, with a commitment to quality (if deliciously less "high minded"). Lucky for us, there are more seats than a "showing" at Mixtli. I can't wait to see what they'll dream up if they can pack the place with enthusiastic audiences. (I keep hearing Frank-n-furter sing "Don't dreeeaammm it / BeeEEE iiiit" in my head as I write this...) I'm going back for more! Refreshments served before show, at intermission, and probably after(?). Miller Lite, Coors Light, and Miller High Life (!) tallboys available for $5; Blue Moon tallboy, Busted Sandal's 210, and a coupla other flavors for $7. Wine $6.

I learned from a fellow yelper (props to Danny C!) that Rose Theatre Co is a "black box theater". Or "black box theatre" depending on which side of the pond you learned to spell. And it fits the description, all the walls are painted black and it's small and cozy where the audience gets right up in the mix. Beware: they will call you on stage and make you participate no matter how embarrassing the scene may be!!! Shows here are BYOB. Come prepared with a cooler full of your finest box wine and Lone Star Light, it's only fitting. I saw Shock Puppets Strike Back! and laughed myself into a fantastic ab workout! I'm the type of girl who easily turns red (darn you, pheomelanin!) and many of the jokes left me a shade of crimson that would make you think I was a Sooner instead of a Longhorn. Don't worry, Texas fans, I bleed burnt orange no matter what my red hair and skin may lead you to believe! A quick show review: Shock Puppets is hilarious. Some skits fell a bit short, but overall, I couldn't even sit up straight from the giggles. My favorite skit was the "Key Party." So well-played, unexpected, and fantastic. If you're looking for a fun night out, I found it. Date night? Here it is: Dinner and drinks at Pam's, amazing show at Rose.

The small theatre space meant we were close to the action. The play was written and directed by the theatre owners, a cool married couple. This particular play was well-acted (melodramatic, maybe, but it fit), and I liked the use of video footage and wacky scenes projected on the black set to portray Alice's dream sequences and acid trips. If nothing else, it was entertaining. We opted to "upgrade" to the Shock Puppets show afterward, and I'm glad we did. Decidedly politically incorrect sock puppets and their human counterparts put on a sketch show....with some incredibly funny moments. There are some great silly personalities in this troop -- I'll be back to see what they do and say in the next installment. I have to admit I haven't done a lot of local, homegrown comedy (embarrassed to say I never did OxyMorons), so maybe there's better out there.... but they had us lively and laughing......and I wasn't even taking advantage of the BYOB policy. Only 3 stars so I don't overhype it'. Go check 'em out....support some local talent!
