Website states that it's first come first serve but I guess since I was 15 minutes late, I was guided by the usher to an empty table which was nice. It is a 2 item minimum, in which I like that it doesn't have to be drinks . I got a rum & diet (I wasn't hungry lol) as well as a bottle of water, total $19 & change including 2.6% service fee + tip, not too shabby. Service was good, drink was a moderate strength, seat was a clear view of stage considering how far back I was. I would recommend & would definitely return!

As for Woodlawn Comedy in the Deco District of San Antonio, it's a much different vibe than Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club. Rather than tables and chairs, the layout is a traditional theater with rows of stationary chairs in the center, left, and right. Parking in the area might be confusing for some, yet I grew up in the area and knew store front, street parking, and nearby parking lots were an option. What I didn't know was that valet was an option too! When we arrived, we lined up to the right of the theatre on the sidewalk to get screened - IDs, bags, and finally tickets. It reminds me of what you'd expect when visiting the Majestic, the Empire, or the Aztec Theatre. Once in, the bar is immediately to the right. I can't speak for beer or mixed drinks, yet the sodas were reasonably priced. I don't remember seeing snacks or candy, yet I also wasn't looking for that. Restrooms, for when nature calls, are on the left side of the lobby. As you walk back, the large theater is on your right past the bar. The walls are painted black and had a chill vibe. The seats were an average size, and I appreciate that there were cup holders for our drinks. I'm short, yet I felt like I had a great view. What helped is that no one was in the row in-front of us. I'm not sure about the view from the balcony. Seating up there is an option for select shows, yet I think I only saw stairs. I saw accessible seating at the far back of the theater. It's not really marked on the seating chart though. For the Pauly Shore show, attendees selected where they wanted to sit when we purchased the tixs. At other shows, you'll find that it might be general admission opening seating. Overall, I'm excited about the new chapter of the Woodlawn Theater and how Woodlawn Comedy is bringing another regular option for live stand up. On a related note, the venue that hosts Woodlawn Comedy is the prior home of Woodlawn Theater performances. Those theater performances have now moved to the Wonderland of the Americas mall at the new Wonder Theater.

Because of the 7pm showtime, and the travel time to get to the venue, we had to skip dinner, but the website said "snacks" so we figured bar type snacks.... nope... more like vending machine snacks. Their beer selection was chosen by someone who doesn't like beer, either. But then the show started and we all found our seats. The comedy was great. Not a single comedian bombed, every one of them was funny. Only one got a bit political, and even that was a small portion of her routine. During the show, you ordered drinks via a QR code on your phone and delivered to your seats. However, the comedians should be informed of this, as there were a few times where comedians were scolding audience members for being on their phones during their performances, but they were simply trying to order. Also, Riot could probably improve their food menu with a toaster oven and some HEB frozen finger foods. Overall, it was a great night, but I wanted to be as honest as possible. The comedy was great, the venue was easy to find and get to. Very intimate setting. I intend on visiting regularly.

This is a small theatre, tucked in the corner of a strip center, upstairs…read more I read a blurb in The Current about a play called Alice and the MK-Ultra Experiment....and it sounded like something different to do on a Saturday night, so a friend and I went to check it out. The small theatre space meant we were close to the action. The play was written and directed by the theatre owners, a cool married couple. This particular play was well-acted (melodramatic, maybe, but it fit), and I liked the use of video footage and wacky scenes projected on the black set to portray Alice's dream sequences and acid trips. If nothing else, it was entertaining. We opted to "upgrade" to the Shock Puppets show afterward, and I'm glad we did. Decidedly politically incorrect sock puppets and their human counterparts put on a sketch show....with some incredibly funny moments. There are some great silly personalities in this troop -- I'll be back to see what they do and say in the next installment. I have to admit I haven't done a lot of local, homegrown comedy (embarrassed to say I never did OxyMorons), so maybe there's better out there.... but they had us lively and laughing......and I wasn't even taking advantage of the BYOB policy. Only 3 stars so I don't overhype it'. Go check 'em out....support some local talent!

Saw a movie tonight with their new ordering system, terrible recliners, and squeaky tables, and I realized the magic of that place is dead. The online ordering was awful. I paid for everything under 1 order but there was 15 minutes between 1 seat and the other getting items. When I finally got my food the water I ordered didn't arrive until I requested multiple refills through the online system which meant I had to keep my phone on the entire time. I would've felt better if I could've talked to a server but it was a bit chaotic. They were all running around looking a bit overwhelmed and lost. The only way to get help is to request a manager through the website, which felt like overkill. Final straw was realizing that despite paying via credit card when you order, they charge you another 5% (on top of the included 18% service fee) if you don't go back into the order system and close out after the movie ends. I don't want to be a slave to my phone. One of the greatest joys of the Alamo Drafthouse was their strictly enforced no phone policy, but those days are done. When Santikos or AMC tried to introduce fancier food I thought they were poor imitations of the Drafthouse, but now the Drafthouse feels like it dumbed itself down to be a poor imitation of them.

Handing out small paper fans wasn't enough to keep the audience comfortable in the heat. Because I was trying to stay hydrated, I ended up missing a large portion of the concert with multiple restroom breaks. It's disappointing that attendees weren't notified of the air conditioning issue beforehand or given the opportunity to reschedule. Knowing the conditions in advance would have allowed guests to make an informed decision. I would absolutely recommend the Candlelight Concert series because the musicians are exceptional. However, I would encourage attending at a different venue where the audience can comfortably enjoy the performance from beginning to end.
