I would never recommend it to anyone looking for a positive theatre environment. In my opinion, the company cares far more about money than the kids. There are fees for what feels like everything, and parents are expected to volunteer and help with almost everything they do. It never felt like enough unless you were giving them more time or more money. The building was also often very dusty, and it didn't always feel like the healthiest environment to be spending so many hours in. The favoritism was unbelievable. I watched the same people get opportunities over and over while others who worked just as hard were constantly overlooked. I was there for years and never got a role that reflected the amount of effort I put in, which made it feel like talent and dedication didn't matter nearly as much as being one of the favorites. There was also constant drama, and from my experience, people would get pulled into private rooms and be accused of things they didn't do without feeling like they were given a fair chance to explain themselves. It created an uncomfortable atmosphere where people were scared of getting in trouble over rumors or misunderstandings. I also found it very unprofessional that staff members would speak negatively about students behind their backs. Hearing adults who are supposed to support children gossiping and saying hurtful things about them was incredibly disappointing. Overall, I left feeling like this company had serious issues with favoritism, professionalism, communication, and how they treated students. In my opinion, the only reason it continues to be successful is because it has a large budget and strong financial support, not because it provides a good experience for its performers. Based on my own experience over several years, I would strongly encourage parents and young performers to look into other theatre companies before choosing this one.

Tomorrow evening I am very excited to attend their summer production of Disney's The Little Mermaid! They cast fairly and they cast talented kids, teens, and adults for parts, depending on the show. There is an emphasis on quality and professionalism, but also on fun, learning, and inclusiveness. I just LOVE that about McLaughlin Studios! Not only do they do full Main Stage Productions at McLaughlin, but they also offer Junior Musical Programs and Mini Musical Production Workshops for all ages. The owners have been in business for decades and have a very extensive resume to boot. They like to give back in a phenomenal way, and often you will find fundraisers and local vendors when you visit for shows. I love coming to shows at McLaughlin and supporting the Loomis Community! A note about parking: It will fill up if you do not arrive early for theatrical productions! There is plenty of street parking on Swetzer Road if this happens.

It's wonderful to find a large group of families who are also just as passionate. My kids look forward to going to their classes each week (my daughter loves the performing classes like Hamilton Hip Hop and children's singing classes while my introvert son loves the lighting and sound classes.) The shows are fun and involve all of the families coming together to make things happen whether helping build sets, selling refreshments, or working back stage. The greatest thing that sets CYT apart is that while the kids are learning and striving to be their best, they are learning to be better people on the inside as well. Instead of being a cut-throat, competitive atmosphere the kids are supporting each other and cheering each other on. There are life lessons in how to deal with the good and the bad of theater life like how you deal with the disappointment of not making it into a show or getting the part you wanted. I could not hope for a better place for my children to learn about theater AND life.

The kids support and encourage one another, (despite age differences, and regardless of roles). For shows, they are paired up with buddies who can walk them through the process or send them encouraging notes, etc. they focus on character development, and how kids learn what I would consider to be important qualities, such as discipline, resilience, kindness, etc. Even the parents get to join in on the fun, as parent involvement/volunteering is required for shows. I've really enjoyed connecting with other theater moms and dads and working together on parent teams. I also like that parents are not involved in the classes. That means if your kid wants to do theater and you don't have the time to volunteer, you still have options for them. The teachers are passionate and highly capable. From what I've seen, they are immensely talented in their own fields. Each time one of my children takes a class, they definitely come away knowing more than they went in knowing, and it shows in their performances. Our oldest child has been involved with CYT over the past couple of years, and we have seen great growth in her singing and dance abilities, as well as her drive and work-ethic. We're definitely excited to introduce the siblings to CYT.

This theater is located in a 30,000 square foot warehouse type building, which has to be so great for the kids and adults who partake in their productions-everything felt so roomy and comfortable-Parking at this location is a breeze, they have their own parking lot so that's a plus. When you arrive on show night after being greeted by the nicest friendliest people at the door checking your tickets, you walk into a snack bar area where they are serving various snacks and drinks where u can get pick up anything from a bag of chips, candy or even an adult beverage-very convenient for those like me who skipped dinner before the show. When you walk into the theater-it is a tad bit cold but they have thought of everything here-the very friendly workers/ushers in the theater offer their patrons blankets they can have at their seats while watching the show, which I felt was so thoughtful. As far as seating goes, they have 3 sections, the center and 2 sides,on this particular night I had tickets on the side but as I learned there really isn't a bad seat in the house,it's designed in such a way that the stage is right on top of you no matter where u sit-so no worries if u don't get 1st few rows center for the show. The production itself is so well written and so well performed by such a talented group of performers-I can tell that this theater truly does put so much time and effort into preparing the performers for show nights that I guarantee you will have an incredible time watching a show out at this really great family friendly theater. In closing-if you ever find yourself out in the El Dorado Hills area and you want to support local theater, which is such an important part of our community,I would fully recommend getting yourself out to El Dorado Musical Theater and catching a show-they are doing really great things out there. PS-Though my daughter is an adult-this theater group has a vast youth program for young performers to partake in musical theater-if your child has ever expressed an interest in performing-get them out there, performing does wonders for building character in our children.

I've tried some intense workout programs before, but this one is by far my favorite. Despite the intensity, the coaches there did a great job of making sure I was 1.working out at a level of difficulty that was safe but challenging; and 2. Making sure that I didnt sacrifice form as I got tired. I was far from the best there, but never once did I feel like anyone judged me, and in fact everyone was extremely encouraging. I had coaches and people I'd never met pushing me to keep going, giving me tips, and congratulating me when it was all over. Whether you are already into crossfit or you're just starting out, I'd absolutely recommend looking into their crossfot program. Their first class is free (just sign a waiver), and from what I hear (still need to confirm this) their prices for unlimited monthly classes are pretty competitive for around here ($50/month). I can't speak on experience for any of their other classes, but in short their crossfit program has great coaches, a great encouraging atmosphere, and good attention to form and safety. Only downside is its only a small space dedicated to crossfit, but I think that'll change soon.

Located on the second floor of the West Sac Community Center, this building felt brand new and altogether inviting. Grabbed a vanilla chai tea latte (although the spiced chai tea latte is just as good) from Cafe La Boutique (La Bou), which we were free to take inside the theater as well. The second floor boasted a Sunshine Deck and beautiful "Fluttering Canopy" glass art piece above the main stairwell. Restrooms downstairs with plenty of signage so you couldn't miss them very clean. The Black Box Theatre itself could seat about 125 people max capacity, seats were comfortable (but not the norm cushioned folding type) for the ~2 hour show. Very intimate setting, absolutely perfect for the puppeteering (should I say, Muppeteering?) in Avenue Q, with actors utilizing the onset stage as well as the aisles and exits. Not sure where the orchestra was hiding, although I'm pretty sure there was a live orchestra, hah. Two flatscreens included for the show, not sure if those are normally part of the performance space. Bravo! Easy to get to off of Jefferson Blvd/Tower Bridge Gateway, and we were able to use the Joint Use Parking Area shared by the Community Center and the Library. My only regret?
