The student support is too bad. My daughter was there to resolve an issue with finance front desk. Here is the quote: "The employee to whom I was trying to talk was so busy with her mobile phone. As I was talking "in the air", she occasionally had half a look with a totally irrelevant answer, then got busy with her mobile phone again. I went back to college! Ok not really. I went to Folsom Lake College to use the tennis courts which are free of charge. Parking is $2 though. But good news is that the parking fee is temporarily suspended due to COVID. This review is just for the tennis courts.; the Sue Lorimer & Bob Bruns Tennis Complex. The courts were clean and maintained. They have 8 courts that are nicely spaced out and have a 4 feet tall fencing between the side by side courts. Each court has a covered bench. On the weekends, there is campus security present. An emergency blue box call phone is located on the pathway from the parking lot between the courts and running track. Plus monitored cameras. So no funny business. No skateboarding, bicycling, roller skating, picnicking, playing basketball ... other horseplay stuff other than tennis on the courts. The formal rules are posted throughout. Another thing to note is that near the front of court 1, facing the track, is the posting of Folsom Lake College's collegiate tennis schedule. FLCC is focused on scamming their students through enrollment. I learned the hard way that if you do not send the school a list of your prerequisites they will let you sign up for classes and then drop you after the refund date... Pretty neat. So, instead of blocking you from signing up for a class that they don't know if you are qualified for, they will take your money and cut you from the class! This might be the worst college experience I've ever had. read more

The campus policies suck and are unethical. I am assuming that this comes down from the top of the administration which makes you wonder why such unethical people are in the higher administration at this college. They should be let go. Parking at the FLC was free during Covid times. I circled to the pay meter and there would be sign that no parking fee would be collected. They suddenly changed the policy - no notification whatsoever - they could have augmented their sign as you come into the college to say that parking is once more in effect. No notification whatsoever and then they slapped $33 tickets to several people on the same day. No courtesy ticket either and they won't budge on waiving those tickets. What kind of ethically challenged people change the rules suddenly and fail to understand the consequences of such a change and then stick people with $33 fine. read more

In Feb 2022 completed the registered that would permit me to sign up for classes at Folsom Lake College and it went fine until it was time for FLC to send me an I.D. number to sign up for the actual class. The look up had no number so I sent e-mail, no response. Called and spoke with an admin who said they could not find a number either and that they would look into it and get back to me. Never heard back from them. Classes moved on without me. Very disappointed. read more

Great school! Just started spring 2019 semester and it's going great! I had plenty of help signing up for classes and all staff I've come across are friendly and helpful. Some have an extra bonus of being quite funny. It's a beautiful campus and super easy to get around as the buildings are all in a circle. I went here when it just became its own college and it has sure grown. There are a lot of plus things like a beautiful campus, small class rooms, but it does have its limitations of having to drive to other campuses. Not the worst thing in the world but still more time to drive. When you start to pick your classes learn the system and go to rate my professor online and see the good teachers. There is no reason you can't get a two year degree with your schedule with places like this. I think it's even free tuition for the first two years now. Then you can transfer to a school and the counselors can help you with this. If this is a close college for you just go you won't regret it. I took the engineering classes and I remember one of my classes had five people in it and they still kept it open. Good times! read more

The library here is an awful place to get any studying done. Young children have better manners in regard to others sharing the space they are in, than the people using this library. This place is so loud that it's very hard to concentrate on your work here. I came here so that I could find a quiet place to work. What a joke of an idea. The staff doesn't even ask very loud people in conversations to quit down. This campus literally has multiple spaces for groups of people to get together without disturbing folks seeking a quiet place to work at the library. I used to like this college. However, today my son went to Counseling department to schedule an appointment. No one was available to help him. He was told the appointment can be scheduled online only! He was there in person. He felt uncomfortable to say scheduling online was confusing for him. He has been waiting the whole day to see if he could squeeze in. He couldn't, and no one offered him any help! Unacceptable service! read more

Even during Covid, learning here has been great. I took two online courses this summer, and I haven't had a single issue. Prior to Covid, the actual campus and staff were incredible. The people there really do want you to succeed. The only complaint I have is the UTP fees. When you enroll in a class, a charge for a universal transit pass gets added to your account. Basically, it's a bus pass from the school. However, you can't decline these fees: you have to pay them. This is my only issue. Everything else is great! read more

As someone who already graduated from with a Bachelor's recently, coming back to FLC to take classes to fulfill grad school prerequisites, my experience has been...mixed. Granted, I was trying to get into the most popular classes with a low registration priority. In my first semester though, I was able to take a few (unrelated) classes which allowed me to get a better date for the following term. As for the quality of education here, it will never replace a university-level education. You have to keep in mind that many of the people here are not professional students; some are working parents trying to go back to school. Likewise, the school recognizes this and tries to work at a level where the student regardless of background will be able to learn the material but not be obligated to be a library rat. So is it easier than at a university? Yes, but only relatively. Depending on the course, long hours still exist, but that most likely will be due to the amount of information rather level of trickiness. And if you do find yourself struggling, the school offers a FREE tutoring service at their Tutor Center. Most of the tutors there either are overqualified (there's an ex-engineer who helps on all levels of math) or ex-students in a particular subject (ie they can tell you EXACTLY what a specific professor is looking for or going to test you on). I give this place a five star because, besides of all the above reasons, the administration office is waaaaaay easier to work with than the admin from my Alma mater (and that was a private university). read more

I am new at Folsom Lake College but have been really impressed with the school so far! Wonderful almost-state of the art facilities. Really new, clean, bright buildings... and the parking lot/classrooms have some of the finest views of Folsom with wonderful hills and trees. My first day of class involves walking around... getting lost looking for the bookstore (which is below Falcon's Roost). Everyone here is super helpful and friendly to help you feel comfortable. The campus is not supre big but compared to American River college, it's very modern, new, and wonderful. The bathroom is super clean and new... oh how I wished my UC would update its buildings like Folsom Lake College. 5-stars for a community college in norcal. That gives you a real chance anyway. Hands down the best of the Los rios colleges, campus and staff wise. (main flc campus) Classes are really nicely run too and they're relatively newly established still so other than the theater arts, tennis, and golf, they're adding both structures and extracurricular sports and activities as the years progress. All in all, I absolutely love it, and I live most of the time in elk grove-- SO worth the drive, and I'd pay triple not to go to crc. Kinda glad sac city was full and I found this little gemstone. Small campus, focused programs, new and modern curriculum and equipment. Give them more development time and they'll probably dominate JC-wise in students opinions from all I've heard and seen. read more

The campus is really clean, the teachers actually seem to care, there is a large class selection and easy to get into classes, the counselor are readily available (mr. My favorite part of this college is the scheduling for classes. My schedules not all over the place. The atmosphere of the school is very calm and pleasant. Come here if you want a nice community college experience, with no drama.I see the other review had trouble with fasfa and student services but that is something that is in your hands. I would never suggest to anyone I know to go to college here. They hire incompetent teachers, which also teach and grade based off of their prebias opinions. The counseling department also does nothing to help the students. You will have to figure everything out on your own. The financial aid department makes it practically impossible to get any aid particularly at this school because American River is much more helpful. On top of all that,there are hardly any class choices. The school is too cheap to hire more teachers and have more classes. Plus the desks and rooms are so cramped sometimes its uncomfortable. This is the worst college anyone could ever come to. If you haven't enrolled yet- don't! Go to Sierra, ARC or Sac City where it's much bigger and nicer there. read more

This campus is a drive up on a hill. It's well maintained, and the buildings are in nice shape. If you go downstairs to the bookstore there's a pool table and foosball table to use right outside. If you are hungry there's a lot of restaurants nearby as well as the pallidio shops (10 mins drive or less). You can see big mansions on the hills (from campus) for a motivation kicker to keep striving for big dreams. read more

Here's the disclaimer. I am an employee of this college. FLC is a great place to work for. The students and staff are courteous. If there is someone walking in front of you opening the door, this person holds it open for you. It doesn't matter who. This is amazing sight to see on this campus. Once, I saw Professor Gibson holding the door with his bright smile allowing the stampede of students to walk thorough. The cafeteria has five stars view of the hills. The best time to appreciate the view is spring semester. You get to see rolling green hills with fancy and massive McMansions perching on top of the hill. If you are really fixated with studying the architecture, you may want to bring your good binoculars to the cafeteria. Get yourself a nice hot meal and study the architecture. Your architecture teacher may be impressed with your studying habits. As for the perspective of an employee, the staff is great. Each of us tries to make FLC a great learning space for students in our own way. I look forward to the continued growth of this campus. I cannot wait for the athletic field to be completed so I can cheer as a fan. read more

This is one of the worst possible school you could attend. The people over the phone always seem like they hate their lives and don't want to be doing what they're doing. A lot of the time they delivered wrong information and I have to call back and wait for a hour or so before being called back. There are some good teachers but a lot of bad ones. Teachers that give pointless assignments that don't teach anything to their students. You have some that make turning work in even hard for no reason. The bad teachers at this school are truly horrendous and I don't even know how they are still there. They give a lot of work which just stresses students out not allowing them to really learn because they are just stressed on finding some way to do the work or even just turn it in. In person the school is different which just tells me how fake it is. Teachers will even not email their students back when they have questions, just leaving them in the dark. Teachers will even reply and say that the students are just doing it wrong, not giving any instruction but just adding an extra day to figure it out for themselves which isn't really teaching students. Go to any other school within this district as they seem to have nicer people on the phones and seem to care more about the kids educations. FLC is a pretty horrible school in my opinion, I have learned some while attending but so far my high school has taught me more then this school has, it's like they just make you do the work you were already taught in high school. Only classes I really learn in are classes I didn't attend in high school. The psychology teacher Dr Beck is most likely the best teacher within the whole school. She cares about what she's teaching, she gives perfect directions, and she is very kind and wants to help her students when they are confused. I could list a lot of bad ones and why they are bad but I don't think it would be too nice to call them out for being as terrible as they are. Overall if you can get good teachers for all your classes you are very lucky. Odds are however you will end up with a lot of horrible ones that don't care that much about helping their students learn their material. They'd rather basically call them dumb and have them figure out their directions on their own. read more

This is just primarily for the track area. My running group meets up here every so often for the dreaded speed work...blaaaaah...hate it...but the track is super nice! The restrooms are...thankfully open...and clean! My only complaint...and it's not the tracks fault...but there is no parking permit dispenser anywhere near this lot...you have to walk clear to the entrance to get a ticket...and when I say entrance...its not even convenient for driving...because the dispensers are on the exit side...not the entrance side...anywhooo..would be nice if there were a dispenser by the track...since I imagine I am not the only one that is not a student and thus doesn't have a semester pass. read more

How can I take career guidance from someone that can't even keep her appointments on time?! Their classes are definitely good quality but don't expect your work to be graded in a timely manner. This may be just the professor that I have but it is mid March and he hasn't graded any of my laboratory reports. Other than that, the classes are great quality, the professors are knowledgable and respectful, and the campus is very nice. read more

The bookstore and counselors need A LOT of work. The bookstore does not allow you to cancel an online order. You must go to campus to cancel regardless of the situation. I was not happy with their online ordering because the point of online is being able to cancel without having to drive there. They do like to grab your books for you, which by all means is great customer service. However when this will be your 3rd trip to exchange for the correct book is unacceptable. I have wasted more gas driving to FLCC than it's worth. I am not sure if they had something wrong with their systems or if the staff is too green. Counseling department staff are lazy. Since I was cancelling an order at the bookstore, I wanted to see if a class at FLCC is the same at ARC. The guidance counselor advise me they refused to assist because I'm graduating as a transfer student to CSUS from ARC and a counselor from ARC needs to confirm. the counselor mentioned that they will not be held responsible if an incorrect class was taken. Last time I checked FLCC and ARC are in the same Los Rios District. I am still not understanding why they are not able to help. I could understand if I was coming from Sierra College but I am attending a college that is all in the same network. I just got a blank look and a response with clearly I cannot help you. ***In addition, if you have children and you look under the age of 25 be prepared to get dirty looks and impatient counselors**** I wish I got the counselors name because I felt horrible for the student waiting to see someone. Her little girl had to be under a year but with the looks and the hush hush whispering everyone gave her was just unacceptable. I wasn't even in there with anyone and I felt uncomfortable. They lived up to Folsoms typical stereotypes. I really wanted to like this college because the campus is amazing with an amazing peaceful view but the staff cause headaches and don't know what they're doing or how to act. read more

I got my A.A degree here! Since it's new, it will probably be better in the future. Towards the end of my community college time, I went on to take more classes at ARC because they offer more classes, with more time slots. But I'm pretty sure FLC is working on expanding. I think they even offer some online classes now. The only thing is, you have to watch out for the counselors! Most of them do not know what they are doing! There was a nice lady named Barbara, and another good counselor named Garret. I made the mistake of going to "the transfer counselor" - Christopher Clark. He told me that I could transfer after the next semester and to come in to take care of paperwork, when I made an appointment with another counselor , Barbara, she was really confused of how I would transfer since I didn't have enough units. She rushed to Clark's office to ask him what was going on, and he DENIED making a mistake. I guess he counted some non-transferable units and got my hopes up for nothing. But she was really nice and apologized for the confusion. I emailed him twice afterwards to get some urgent information for transferring and he ignored both of my emails. ugh. Other people have complained about him too. Just wanted to put that out there, to count your own units :) Anyways the campus is really nice. It's very modern and the buildings are close enough together that you can take classes 10 minutes apart without worrying being late. I actually kind of miss going here =( read more

Horrible student services! Be aware! Had to wait in the same 2 lines 3 different times just to told they can't help and to get back in the other line. I finally had to Lie to a lady and tell her the other one needed to talk to her just so they could look at each other and figure out who could help with basic questions. They kept saying fastfa instead of fafsa and require FULL payment for all classes immediately!!!!! DOES NOT MATTER IF YOU YOU QUALIFY FOR AID. Save yourself the hassle and go to a SIerra where they actually care. FL is very unprofessional. I see why they're classes aren't full now and won't be going back. You've been warned! read more

Great first semester. Cool classmates and professors. Don't be afraid to take initiative and utilize campus resources. I didn't think to do that at my four-year university so I really appreciate the support here. Up-to-date technology, friendly staff, and knowledgeable faculty, modern architecture. Grateful to have this educational resource at pretty affordable costs. I've learned so much compared to my four-year university classes that had hundreds of students in lectures. The library student staff are really helpful as a first-time student. Bonus #1: Career counselor informed me of relevant internships, two professors I could contact to ask career-related questions, and a certificate program at a sister campus I didn't know about. Bonus #2: One of my professors had us go through a library research training - very helpful to learn about all the academic research available online and intercampus. Bonus #3: My other professor showed us a video about campus safety in case of a school shooting (Run, Hide, Fight!), as well as exit strategies in case of emergency. Bonus #4: I am happy to see and take the sexual harassment training course for new students. Sober consent every time. Bystander intervention. Verbal Self-Defense skills. They care. read more

They are making it very difficult to "succeed". I want to change careers and want to know what it will take to get a 4 year degree in a new field. ((Maybe knock out a couple of lower division courses there) I tried calling to make a counseling appt for 2 straight weeks. They only returned my call once. But I missed the call. I finally gave up. Several months later I finally walked in to the counseling office. I was not allowed to make an appt because I was not an enrolled student. I was sent to the welcome center to re-apply. There were so many hoops to jump through and I had not allowed enough time for the lengthy process. (Just to make an appt, ugh) I finally gave up again. It is sad that the system is not designed to actually help people succeed. If I had not had such great teachers and experiences there in the past they would have received one star. For the record though - the gal at the counseling office was patient. But the gentleman and gal at the welcome center were super nice. The world would be great place if everyone was as nice and helpful as them. read more
