Classic tale of boy meets van, van meets AC malfunction, boy meets mechanic....open on a Saturday?…read moreOooh the plot thickens! We stopped in Kimball, SD and a fine crew at Overwegs Garage diagnosed the problem but didn't have the part in stock. We needed to be in Custer,SD by dark. Fond farewell to Gavin and very hospitable staff. We called Chris Burlison on Friday as we motored west to Rapid City. He said he'd be able to replace the air conditioner compressor we needed. We were duly concerned about a place called WickedWrenches (there's a story)but it is an amazing clean shop run by a super couple. We grabbed a rental van and headed to Devils Tower for the day. Upon our return, our van threw in one small glitch that required some extra time under the hood, but Chris and Tina worked on that too even though it robbed them of some scheduled family time at a Christian music festival in town. No extra charge for parts or labor! Who does that? Nothing Wicked about those Wrenches!

It hadn't been moved. She told him he needed a new head gasket and recommended a new engine since it was an expensive repair anyway. The 2017 Jeep has 65k miles, of which it was towed for 40k of it. Then she offered to buy it from him, so he wouldn't have to pay for the expensive repairs. He pushed back, and she quoted almost $7k for the head gasket repair. So I called and asked to speak to the tech. He was of course busy. Two calls later I finally talked to him. He said he threw a pressure gage on the radiator and maybe noticed a pressure drop, but since he didn't see any leaks it must be the head gasket. A 'super common problem' with that engine. (Actually the opposite is true!) I asked if he ran a compression test on any of the cylinders etc before recommending a new engine or head gasket repair. Nope. My first review ever. But I feel compelled to as I've never had such a slimy and dishonest repair shop experience. Follow up - the Jeep dealer is replacing the thermostat; a less than $50 part.
