The staff was short handed so a previous employee was helping out. I'm fairly certain his name was Sam. He was great. A very knowledgeable and patient person. I was even more excited that we did not have to actually paddle the boat as the captain was able to maneuver without our help. It was very hot that day and I did not want to mess up my outfit. Two of the best perks were 1) being allowed to bring food and drinks due to them having built in coolers in the table area. There were also extra cooler bags brought by the hostess. 2) having a bathroom on board made for an even more comfortable experience. The staff assisted with taking pictures, making sure there was a speaker for music, and simply answering any questions we might have had while aboard. There is an option to give tips and I highly recommend having cash or venmo/cashapp options as it was worth every penny to tip them. The experience was leisurely and the owner and staff set tha environment. Definitely a must try.

Each day they host about 150 people from around the world. The Doorways relies heavily on donations and volunteers. Their are plenty of volunteer opportunities and my friends and I chose to provide and serve a meal. Their front desk staff was super informative and very welcoming. Their kitchen was huge and provided everything we needed to make dinner for the guest. We chose to do burgers; turkey burgers; green beans; baked beans; assorted chips and fresh salad. We did need to bring all of the food to be cooked and any additional or specialty seasoning we wanted to use. The kitchen had 4 of everything (stove, fridge, microwave, etc.) after preparing the meal you serve dinner to the residents around 6:30pm. Now cooking with my friends was so much fun but the highlight was definitely meeting the residents. All walks of life and just thankful for another day. This was such an rewarding feeling and we met some amazing guest. Mr Bryan, a resident there kept us laughing with his great spirit and personality. If you are looking for an opportunity to volunteer in Richmond Va I would highly suggest spending some time at The Doorways! I'm looking forward to returning.

I thought that was nice but it was more money for the time selected. Kings Dominion is right down the street, we decided just to relax by our cabin and the pool. Beware the loft is mostly for children. An adult can't stand up there only sleep. The cabin was nice but extra details in vacuuming and cleaning the carpet in the loft area and getting rid of the cobwebs. Check your shower curtain liners, they can be filled with mold. The cabins are in need at least a 18 cu ft refrigerator. The dorm size does not accommodate ten people. There's a swampy area behind cabin 2C, thought the mosquitoes would be bad but they were not. But make sure you have sunscreen and repellent. Brings wipes to wipe down your cabin. Staff will come around the next morning to get you fresh towels and there are no dishes or utensils. My family and will definitely be back in the fall or maybe during December holiday. Enjoy de-plugging!

One of the best camp grounds we've stayed at. Very clean. The staff members are coming through all…read morethe time picking up trash and lining the bins placed through out the park. No having to lug your trash every day to the dumpster, just place it at the end of your site. There are bathrooms connected to the front office/store, there are two private restrooms w/handicap accessible shower seats on the left side of the park towards the back and another large bath house on the right side of the park with multiple stalls and showers. All which were always clean. There was even a dishwashing station with a 3 bin sink and hot and cold water. Especially good for tent campers so you don't have to lug a bunch of dirty dishes home. Next to the dish washing station there was also a dog washing station. How awesome is that. Most of the RV sites are pretty spacious and gravel underneath and all have a picnic table and fire ring. However, there are some that have a concrete pad and some of the deluxe sites even have a full grill, a raised brick fire pit w/grill grate and even a patio area chairs and a table. There is decent wifi and some sites have cable. There are two dumpsites on the way out of the park and even a fresh drinking water station near the tent campers area so you're not having to lug in water for your tent site. The store is open 9-5, 7 days a week. There are somes snacks/groceries, rv supplies, pet items, firewood, and there was even a slushie machine inside, and a large coffee machine with flavorings. During the cold months they have a fire roaring in the fireplace, so cozy. The last couple of days there they got in ice cream that you can buy by the scoop, in a cup or a cone. The orange sherbet was delicious. The staff members were so helpful and friendly. I highly recommend this camp ground to anyone staying in the area. Especially if you're planning on visiting Kings Dominion Amusement park. It was closed while we were there but opens in the summer months and they offer shuttle service to the park. Although we did not stay at the cabins they looked very nice from the outside and from the pics online. There was a dog park but it was all the way to the back left behind the tent sites, kind of out of the way. There is also a laundry room on site connected to the office. No need to try to make change and lug around a bunch of quarters. There is a machine that lets you swipe your debit card and choose the machines you want to use, very handy. There are 4 washers and 4 dryers. All of which worked very well for me. The area is very wooded. We came in the early spring and it was very nice, I can only imagine how beautiful it is when all the trees are full.

Fortunately, they were able to accommodate us on such short notice, and even offered us a special package that included dinner and drinks! We checked in around 7 pm, and enjoyed freshly baked homemade bread with our hosts. The owners are super accommodating, and really strive to make you feel at home- you can take their dog for walks, chase their kid around, even help with dishes! We were served a delicious crockpot meal, but the one low point was dessert. Our hosts concocted some strange sort of microwave cake-- I cannot recommend it. Recent cutbacks include the cancellation of cable service. We used our Amazon Prime service to download the first episode of "An Idiot Abroad" (great show, btw). We booked the couples suite, which features a comfy queen size bed, lending library, and poang ikea chair (perfect for curling up with the theology book you just borrowed). Breakfast is a free-for-all. Do try your hand at the espresso machine. The proprietor would be happy to give you a lesson. Overall, the best place I've stayed in RVA for less than $35/night. **UPDATED** The owner read my review, and has agreed to remove the aforementioned disgusting microwave cake from the menu. This is great news for B&B lodgers everywhere!

I figured when we paid our $70 for the evening it would be a roach motel but when we opened the door we were floored. Very clean, large spacious room with a bed that was comfy (bring your own pillows though if you plan to sleep), a decent sized mini fridge, microwave, good sized tv. The two seater sofa is a pullout, and there's also a decent armchair. The bathroom had MARBLE WALLS and a real nice stone tile flooring with good hot water pressure. The room was at 54 degrees when we got in but heated up in about five minutes to a nice toasty 72. I did bring blankets and pillows which made it much nicer, but I have to do that at expensive spots too. Is there art on the walls? No. Is it the most beautifully decorated room? Again, no, but it's clean and decent and we were in a smoking room as non-smokers and it smelled good. Thoroughly pleased, I really can't say enough good things about this place. What a surprise little gem.
