After three visits to the Electric Grinch, I know this for sure:…read more1. a nice selection of brews in draft, can and bottle form. All the bartenders have been super friendly and have given great service during my exchanges. 2. the craft cocktail menu seems to be a hit! The bar has been filled with fancy looking drinks the first two times I visited, leading me to choose my own fancy cocktail during visit #3 - the Jumanji, a rum based fruity drink that hit the spot. 3. I love, love, LOVE that we have found a new music venue for local tunes several nights of the week. I've seen one new-to-me artist and came back another night when a band I've seen before was visiting. Both nights had good sound, great lighting, and people dancing in the building. My kinda night! 4. the vibes are chill enough to not feel stuffy and updated enough to feel like you are in a trendy spot with the cool kids 5. haven't visited when it isn't chilly, yet, but I am STOKED to spend time on the outdoor back patio, after taking a look during my last visit. So much seating and space for porch beers. 6. the Simone's connection make the food avaialble a YES, PLEASE

I just tried the following: 1) Simone's Award Winning Sticky Sumac & Pomegranate BBQ wings. There is hint of BBQ...but the seasoning (including the sumac & pomegranate) truly set it apart! Extremely tasty....and surrounded w/ great garnishes as well! 2) Electric Grinch "mule". The E.G. "take" on the craft cocktail Mule is the perfect blend of mint and ...even kicks like a....well....a mule! :) Service is always top-notch (even when busy)! Love the lighting of the establishment...and Mitch ensures the bands sound their best as he provides the PA system! Come see for yourself!

I had three great meals at Stella while visiting Schenectady for work! I enjoyed eating in the…read moredining room and at the bar during happy hour, which has some really great deals. The bar has a smaller menu than the dining room, but still has plenty of options. I highly recommend taking advantage of the happy hour deals. The restaurant is located in a sprawling but cozy historic building with many different rooms, and a music club upstairs. In addition to delicious pasta and other Italian dishes, they feature their own beers, which are fantastic. I really enjoyed the arancini as well as the corn fritters for appetizers, and the cavatelli with pesto and shrimp scampi for entrees. The complimentary freshly baked bread is soft and delicious. Don't miss out on a great Italian meal and craft beer at Stella Pasta Bar!

I recently attended two shows at The Van Dyke on a Friday and Saturday night, and this review…read morecovers both experiences. On both nights, I arrived a bit early to grab a drink and some food at the downstairs bar before heading upstairs for the show. The bar area was busy but not packed, and I was able to find a seat at the bar without too much trouble. The first night, I ordered a drink and the arancini. The food and drink were excellent, but service was understandably slow. The bartender was juggling a lot--handling orders for the bar, indoor dining room, and outdoor patio--so it took about 15 minutes to get my check. Upstairs, I shared the crab cakes, which I didn't manage to photograph, but they were perfectly crisp with a subtle kick. The bartender and server upstairs were both great--friendly, fast, and managing a full room with ease. On the second night, I again started downstairs nearly an hour before the doors opened upstairs. This time, it took about 30 minutes to get a drink. Given how packed it was and that the same bartender was working solo again, I decided to close out early and wait to order food upstairs. Upstairs, I ordered the gnocchi, and the service was smooth and prompt despite another full house. I'd definitely come back to explore more of the menu--just maybe not on a show night, when the staff is stretched between two levels.

If you are in Woodstock, you MUST stop here and see a show. It may possibly change your life. It's a little tricky to navigate here in the dark - you feel like you're in the Blair Witch Project, then you will see a beacon of light marking the entrance to the Levon Helms Studio. Follow the light and it will show you the way!

Well, the Ramble and I made that birthday great. It's an amazing show in an amazing venue. They call it The Barn for a reason. All wood everywhere, it's an intimate show with seats all around, above and behind the stage. Apparently Levon designed and acoustically engineered the space himself, and it shows; the sound quality is phenomenal in here. I think any act would sound good in here, but the Ramble blew my mind. The musicianship is incredible. You'll watch people swap guitars for keyboards for drums and show startling prowess on all of them. They brought in all sorts of friends including Graham Lesh and Twisted Pine (the excellent opening act), and literally everyone could play, and sing, and just rock. With some of Levon's family in the band, you'll hear them play his music with real feeling and emotion, and watch them have a great time doing it. I can't recommend this show enough, and I would certainly come back to the venue as well. Be aware that they don't sell drinks and food, which isn't the worst thing in the world because you could pour half a bottle of vodka into into a water bottle with some powdered grape kool-aid because that's all you had on hand, and have a great time. In theory, I mean.

I had never been but had seen some of the pics of the hall and thought it looked OK. But being there was another story. As other reviewers have said, they do an amazing job making this space feel warm and inviting (as an old person I was thankful for the complementary ear-plugs). The staff were all super friendly and I was appreciative seeing they have security even for a low-key jam-band-friendly venue. The show itself was a lot of fun, there was plenty of room for the crowd of about 75-100 to relax, dance, sit and watch etc. The sound was really good, and the lights rivaled much fancier venues I've been to. As others have said, the drinks are a bit on the pricey side, but when you compare it to going to a show at say, SPAC these days it was actually a few bucks cheaper per-drink. We started the night at The Eleven, the bar attached to the venue which was also very nice. My girlfriend had one of their signature cocktails, the coffee based one (can't remember the name) and I tasted it and thought it was great. I was a bit disappointed by their whiskey selection, but they had the basics which worked fine. Overall, we had an amazing time and I will definitely be going back to check out more live music here.
