The shop itself is gorgeous, with young and beautiful staff to match. There's a mixture of things to browse from armchairs, to jeweled sandals, to fabrics, to ornaments and statement pieces for the home. Given that it's located on ritzy James Street, I assumed that the prices would be higher, but they're actually quite reasonable. I would very happily add many a St Barts piece to my home and will be back soon to see what else they have to offer. The shop is brand new and has yet to build a hype surrounding its existence. From what I saw in store, it will only be a matter of time before St Barts has a steady following.

A new shop always seems so promising and adds a nice freshness to shopping areas that you already know inside out. I actually just came across St Barts on the weekend when I was on my way to Harveys and couldn't resist a peek. St Barts sells clothes, accessories, and homewares and their style seems quite eclectic. They had some lovely cushions and cute accessories, and I got the impression that they're still in the process of fully stocking their shop so I'll look forward to poking my nose back in there in a few weeks to see what it's like when they get fully into the swing of things. The prices are a little bit lower than I would have expected based on St Barts's location and exterior so that was a nice surprise. I exchanged a quick hello with the sales assistant and then she left me to browse which I always appreciate, especially in areas like James street where a lot of the stores seem to employ hoverers. It is interesting to see a few fresh storefronts on James street and this is one of them. St Barts is only young yet, and I'm excited to see what it'll grow into!

However she said if we were to buy it she would honour the sale price but only on this occasion so we had to think fast and not leave the store (nice sales tactic). This obviously created a sense of urgency and we ended up buying the table as it was a great price. Then came the $153.95 shipping fee on top (why not have a Australian supply?). But imagine my disappointment when I discover a few days later the table is on sale online for cheaper than we paid in store! Finding this out I attempted to cancel delivery but it had already shipped and now I was liable for a 20% restocking fee. Long story short, this happened on 9th August, it is now 23rd August. I have left a message for the store manager to call me back but no luck, on 2 occasions American Pottery Barn staff have said they will call me back and no luck. Today I have been told again I will get a call back and not only that a full refund inclusive of shipping and restocking totalling $957...I await to see if after 5 phone calls I can finally forget this shopping experience. p.s - a further 2 phone calls (taking the total up to 7). Store manager still have the decency to call, assistant called and no question about the poor service received just asked for card number. It is free to say sorry, explore why customers have had poor service, reassure and take steps to make sure it doesn't happen again and customers shall return. I'll only be returning if there is a sign saying under new management.

At no stage during the sales process was this policy explained to us. It was buried in fine print, and conveniently ignored until we raised an issue. Now we're stuck with expensive furniture that doesn't work in our space, and Jardan's response has been cold, inflexible, and frankly insulting. Hiding behind vague policies and refusing to stand by your products is disgraceful for a brand that positions itself as premium. We run a retail business and would never treat customers this way. Jardan has lost us for good -- and we'll be making sure others are well aware of our experience. Avoid this brand at all costs.

Jardan's position is that because my name is not on the original receipt and the sofa is second-hand, they are no longer liable. This stance is in direct contravention of Australian Consumer Law, which protects the rights of subsequent owners in cases where warranties are transferable and the goods remain under warranty.

The store on McLachlan Street in the Valley is huge with 5 levels of display furniture so many beautiful pieces. The furniture is primarily designed in Italy, which is obvious as you walk through the show rooms. The sleek, clean lines and the beautiful materials give you the feeling that if you do find something perfect here for your home, it won't be cheap! I eventually found some great white cafe chairs on sale for $99 each (yippee!). The gentleman who was in the store when I visited was lovely and clearly a talented salesman. I always try and steer clear of those types but he was genuinely helpful. So if your home is in need of a pamper, than make sure that Viva is on your list of places to look because there are some seriously enviable pieces in their store. And who knows, it might just get you excited about furnishing your house again!

We received atrocious service from the manager at Domayne, Anna…read more After viewing our table in store and getting a quote from Paul, we clearly explained that our apartment has four flights of stairs and that we would need a 4-man delivery. We placed the order online that night so we could secure the current gift card offer, but online there was only an option to pay for standard delivery. Paul called the next day, and during that conversation we again discussed the need for a 4-man delivery and again made it clear that there were stairs. When the delivery arrived, the drivers refused to carry the table up the stairs. They also did not appear physically capable of doing so. In the end, they left the table in our apartment car spot. We paid $356 on top of the $99 standard delivery fee for a 4-man service, yet four people effectively showed up and did nothing. When we called Domayne and spoke to the manager, Anna, she offered no support, care, or practical assistance. She refused to approve a refund for a service we did not receive. She was rude, spoke over me, and made no effort to rectify the issue. This was extremely disappointing customer service from both the delivery team and store management.

This time of the year is heaven for the home decorator. All week, I've been looking at kitchenware, bedding, dining suites, office shelves and outdoor furniture. I'm a little kid running wild in a candy shop. As far as furniture stores go, Domayne falls neatly between Space and Freedom. It's definitely more expensive than Freedom, Ikea or Super A-mart. As I test out the fabric sofas for durability using the trusty bounce test (the snooty sales assistant glared at me from across the show room), I can confirm that the sofas here are sturdier than what you'll get at Ikea or Super A-mart. There are a lot of impractical ideas presented here as well. For example, there's a giant modular outdoor lounge set on a wooden deck covered with a striped marquee giving the impression of an exotic island getaway. Great if you were really on an exotic island getaway but a bit weird to have it as a permanent fixture in your yard. Then there's their weird home ware section which looks like they've stolen a big chunk of the Antique Centre from Woolloongabba. There's a 1920s typewriter, shabby chic wooden dressers, faded birds in rusty cages and chipped mirrors. It looks great as store decoration but there's no way one individual item would fit in someone's home. Although Domayne is definitely catering for the upper end of the furniture market, it is definitely worth checking out for its tastefully designed, well made pieces, the less tasteful, stranger pieces which don't always work and just for the sheer fun factor.
