Clear Creek Independent School District (CCISD) has a gridiron gem of its own in Challenger Columbia Stadium. While the venue has been around for at least a decade, the 2024 commencement exercises for Clear Springs High School on June 1, 2024, were my first time there. My friends who I accompanied told me the stadium is considered one of the top high school football venues in the Lone Star State, and it was easy to see why. There's ample seating, a superb audio system, a crystal clear video board, nice sight lines, a very accommodating field house. I commend the district for commemorating the fallen astronauts of the 1986 Challenger explosion and the 2003 Columbia tragedy. The atmosphere at graduation was festive, but I can imagine being more than that during a football game.

The 2016-2017 school year is the first season of football. The stadium will hold 10,000 people. It is much nicer than the older Veterans Memorial Stadium on the east side of League City. It is much nicer than what we have had before but still not as nice as other stadiums in the Houston area. However, since I pay taxes in this district, I'm happy that it is not the most expensive stadium in the area. The fans are quite a distance from the field and sound from the stands does not seem to carry as loudly as it did in Veterans Memorial Stadium. It could be that the fans are more spread out and so it doesn't seem as loud. Parking is easy and in abundance. Coming to the game from the Gulf Freeway is a nightmare. You would be better off coming the back way from Friendswood on FM 528. Also, getting out of the parking lot when the game is over is also a nightmare. It is much better to park further from the stadium and walk to your car. You'll get out sooner parking closer to the street and walking to/from your car. Parking close to the stadium can end up being a 30-60 minute wait getting out afterwards.

That is until recently when a group of friends and I wanted to do something out of our norm and check out something new to all of us. Introducing the Houston Sabercats, Houston's major league rugby team. The stadium is located right off 288 south of the loop, and right before entering entering into Pearland city limits. I drive by and see the signs daily coming and going from work, but never saw the stadium up close. Truth be told, I wasn't expecting a crowd but was totally surprised driving up and seeing a packed lot with people tailgating. Let me tell you, the fan base was very diverse from young and old and they supported their team proudly. Excitement was in the air which pumped me up as well. Ticket prices were reasonable considering there really isn't a bad seat in the house. There's all kinds of stuff happening in and around the stadium. They have different vendors selling merch, food, and drinks. Platypus Brewing had their own set up right when you walk in, but they also had little tents popped up around selling different food and drinks. There was also another area selling liquor. Merch was pretty spendy, but people were buying them up. The game itself was very fun to watch. I still have alot to learn as far as the rules goes. I would compare it to football, but alot tougher as these guys are going at it with little to no padding. Rugby is something I think I can get behind and I will for sure be back to check it out again.

The game itself was entertaining & our team tore our opponents to pieces. They had a good amount of pop up tents/vendors selling variety of stuff. They had a beer table, snacks, lemonade stand, alcohol stand. & if you want your ball park food they also have a concession stand. The lines moved very fast but they were out of a lot of items. I wanted a hot dog but they were out of it so I ordered their cheeseburger. Which I thought tasted okay. My favorite was their lemonade stand. For 3 dollars a cup I thought that was pretty cheap considering everything is expensive at the ball park. They do have a good amount of parking but it's definitely a hassle and chaotic when everyone is exiting the parking lot. Parking is 15 bucks which is ridiculous for a rugby game but you gotta make money so I ain't mad at it. Overall, it was a great experience and I can't wait to come back for another game. You wanna avoid the chaos parking? Take uber.

I came here to watch the famous Friday Night Lights Texas high school football and it didn't disappoint. The atmosphere was pretty chill and the concession stand was busy but efficient. They don't allow outside food or drink so make sure to grab your wallet when you leave the house/truck and yes with Texas heat make sure you have had plenty of hydration so as not to faint. I had a great time and the presence of law enforcement team really made it feel like a safe place to bring friends and family. Tickets were $11 and up in price from last year but so is inflation. Deal with it.

I live in Pearland, so getting here was easy. I'm sure it's a drive for most people. We got there early so parking was a breeze, but they do have people directing traffic as it does get busy during the Halloween season. We came on a discount weekend so it was 5 dollars off the 40 dollar price rage. Kinda steep you say? I think it's fair since you get 3 attractions and entertainment all throughout the grounds. You can also pay extra for speed passes to skip lines. On top of that, you can also pay extra if you don't want the actors to touch you. Yes you read that right, they do touch. None of us paid for extras, and for the most part, the touching wasn't over the top. Some were a little much, but nothing inappropriate, just rough. The scare factor was definitely there in all the attractions. They did a great job with the set ups and themes of the different houses. I definitely had a few scream moments even though I was supposed to be protecting the gals. They also have shows, shops, entertainment and food throughout the property. Overall, my peeps and I had a blast and are planning on coming back next year for our spooky fix!

But the instructor gave great instructions, was patient, and made the experience so enjoyable. And my painting came out fairly decent. Walking in, we were greeted inmediately and signed up. Grabbed an apron and picked a spot. The instructor gave enough direction so you know what you are doing and guides you jn the right direction but you are free to make it your own. It was interesting to see how everyone interpreted their paintings. In the middle, we took a quick break to play pictionary. That was unexpected but really fun. At the end, there is a drying station and we even got to pick extra paintings to take home. You can bring light snacks and drink to complete the experience.

I'm not sure who is watching the children, but the supervision is not up to my standards. I ended up pulling my daughter out of the program. Another child in the program was making racial slurs. Other incidents had occurred as well. From my understanding, the child was disciplined and the parent was contacted. Well, the behavior continued. I called a meeting with the other parent and the director of India House Mr. Vipin after my daughter was deliberately spit in the face by the child. In the meeting he played the situation down as if it was kids being kids. Racial slurs and leading to spitting in an individual's face is NOT kids being kids. Then he and the parent were wondering why as a mother I was so upset. He assured me that he would meet with my daughter and the other child. Well, that meeting NEVER took place. As upset as I was, I figured he would have done what he said he was going to do. So I guess he lied to my face and could care less about what happened to my daughter. The child was not disciplined at all for the matter and was allowed to return the next day as well. Obviously the issue was not dealt with because again something else happened. All he did was let the other parent and the child know that that type of behavior is fine with his organization. Well, I was done. And again, he tried to play the situation down. I'm glad my child knows how to defend herself. I gave her the green light to handle her business, and I'm glad she did. She may be small, and we are used to people trying to bully her, but it never goes well for the bully. NEVER goes well. I would not recommend this place to anyone as a after school or summer program. I see they try to sweep things under the rug and issues are not dealt with accordingly. As a parent, when you call a meeting to discuss the matter and are given excuses like, "Kids will be kids." This is the type of program my child will never attend again. Racial slurs and spitting in someone's face is not kids being kids. Bullying should never be allowed and taken lightly and here it is. You are made to feel like you are the problem. I will be voicing my concerns. I am glad my daughter knows how to defend herself very well. I am sure if that little girl ever came across my daughter again, she would think twice before spitting and making nasty racial comments. That is not how I'm raising my daughter. You do not disrespect anyone based on them being of a different race. You judge someone by their character, not the color of their skin. No one can help how they were born, but you can surely control your character. It is sad when I have to defend my daughter because the adults there wanted to make light of a serious situation. I know of two kids who were pulled out of their program. And my nephew was pulled out of the program as well after his parents heard what took place and how the situation was handled. Side Note: Later, the director tried to request me to connect on LinkedIn. LMBO. I know he did not recognize me. I quickly declined.
