I was excited to go to the store until I walked in. I browsed for 29 minutes and no one greeted me nor asked if they could help. They were not busy. I found a couple of things and still will items in hand no one came up to me. When I went up to checkout they were rude. Because of this I plan to return everything I bought and buy on the website. I love clothes from Free People but am often leery of buying online because the fit can vary considerably within their clothing line. I found this store to have an exceptionally friendly staff and a fairly large inventory when I visited several times this summer. Really nice dressing rooms and helpful staff to make recommendations and bring different sizes and styles so I didn't have to constantly change clothes to go out hunting for something else. I was greeted immediately upon entry and offered help and advice in the nicest way possible. FP does have boutique pricing, but their items are unusual and they often have decent sales, so I hit them up quite often. I get compliments on my FP clothes all the time. I never pay much attention to Free People when shopping in the department stores, but I want everything in this new boutique that just opened 2 months ago! Unfortunately, I can't afford everything, but I did walk away with a very cute pair of pants and the most amazing comfortable sweater...I'm actually hoping for cold weather tomorrow just so I can wear it! Personally I find Free People reasonably priced, but it's the midst of many other thrift stores so after shopping at those it does seem a bit expensive. Hey guys, I'm looking to start a support group for people who are completely addicted to Free People like I am. When I'm not creeping around their store I am probably checking their website or drooling over their catalog. I love this store, I love this brand. I'm such a loser that I actually can identify many items by name from memory. The women who work here are all helpful and friendly. I just wish Free People weren't so damn expensive. I always buy Free People clothes in department stores (love this hippy look) so drove right over to Milwaukee when I heard they had opened a boutique! The selection of clothing is amazing- it was hard not to buy the entire store. Kelly was the saleswoman who helped me out...I walked into the dressing room and was pleasantly surprised to see that she had even brought in tanks and tees to layer under the dresses I was trying on (without me even asking for them!). Now that's good customer service! They were pretty crowded, but my friend and I still got lots of attention, which was nice. I left with an adorable sweater and very cool pair of wide pants that I know I'll get a ton of use of! Now I just need to start saving my $ so I can go back to Free People to shop some more! read more

I've been a fan of Free People for a long time. First discovering their clothes at Urban Outfitters in high school, I dug the label's hippie vibe. Before this store was even on Milwaukee Avenue, I knew of the company's plans to put it there. When it opened, I was quick to explore. What I found then, and what I found yesterday, was that I was somewhat disappointed in their product and selection. The merchandise is spread out across the space, perhaps to make it look like there are more racks--but it still feels sparse. The selection of clothes doesn't seem to encompass their entire line and the line's decent variation in price point. Most of the stuff in the store seems to be "the best of"--there was this orange paper thin t-shirt for $98. I've found better selection of Free People's clothes at Nordstrom than I've found every single time I've set foot in the store. I still enjoy the products that Free People makes--but I don't think this store represents all they have to offer. See you at Nordstrom! read more

I am not a general fan of Free People as I think you can get much better quality for the price elsewhere. Because there are surrounding vintage and consignment stores around, check these out and compare pieces. You will be pleasantly surprised. I know many people like the vintage/hippie look so why not try the real thing? The store, however, was VERY cute and the sales people were nice! I've always been a fan of Free People... This one's the only one in the mid-west. Definitely a destination point... It's right in the middle of loads of consignment and used clothing stores so I suggest making pit stops at some of them while you're there just to see if there's anything worth buying. read more

I LOVE the clothing at Free People, I just wish it wasn't so expensive! Although I do have to say it is worth the money, my first free people purchase was in the late '90's & I still wear it! The staff at this location is always friendly & ready to help! I don't always have the cash to purchase what I find, but I always find something I want! I even think about items I didn't buy years later, wishing I had taken them home with me (I still wish I had the sweater dress I saw back in 2007!) I love Free People for their attention to DETAIL, textures and use of color. I love just checking out their boutique when I'm in the area for what's new and of course, their sale section, since the the brand is a quite pricey for a college kid on a budget. Usually, I'll go to Macy's and raid their Free People sale section, where you can find super deals. =D But the store itself is very dainty and detailed, and has cute little accessories you'd otherwise only find online. OH, and the fitting rooms are so cool- it's like you're Alice in Wonderland or something. Plus the staff is very friendly and welcoming. (My boyfriend and I walked in there one day with our dog after stopping at the dog park near by!) The only downer is that the place is quite small and has maybe only about 1/3 of the selection you'd find online. read more

I feel so floaty, free and whimsical whenever I come in here..and for some reason, the song "Age of Aquarius" plays in my head. Very hippie chic! I always stop in after eating at Bongo Room just to look because the clothes are so darned purty! I've never bought anything in here before because it's really not my style, but this time I did. They had these really beautiful lace and sequined tube tops that I could wear as layering pieces, so I snapped up the black and fuschia numbers. Can't wait to wear them! Free People is kind of pricey but because their line is so unique, they can get away with it. I'll keep popping in to see their latest. read more

I love Free People clothing when I've found it at other stories. It's funky but not too weird. This store is rather small though so they don't have a huge selection of styles. In fact, down the street at Belmont Army they seemed to have a wider variety of Free People tops and dresses. Since the store is new there was no sale rack which is understandable but still disappointing. They had a lot of fall tops but it's too hot to think about buying them yet. The women working there were very friendly and helpful but I feel like they need a few more racks of merchandise in there in order to make me visit regularly. Just not much variety considering the large amount of clothes the company has on the Web site. read more

I had a bad experience at this location today. I wanted to pick up something cute for my vacation. I actually found something cute, but was not greeted until I walked by the register very coldly. I felt like they thought I didn't belong in the store or something. Black women shop at Free People too! I love FP. I mean, LOVE. LOVE LOVE LOVE... There is a store that is closer to my house than this one, but it doesn't have nearly the selection that this does. They carry all of the fun, fabulous finds that are shown in the catalog as well as a lot of their "better than basics". You can usually find some great steals on the sale rack, too. I think it's really a hit or miss here but I guess that also depends on your taste and personal preference obviously. They have some cute pieces here for casual wear. Half of the stuff I thought was just okay looking. Their style is like a cross between beachy casual with a touch of urban to it? ... is the best way to describe it. I found myself a cute v neck striped cardigan and a light spring jacket I can also probably wear in the fall. I'm not usually drawn to their clothing that often but it's worth a look every now and then cuz there will be some gems among some uglier looking pieces. I think prices are reasonable for what you get, unless you are accustomed to piece of shit craftsmanship, clothing that's not even worth the low price, etc.. Screw that. I hate cheap shit. read more

I've had such a long history with most of the Free People family of stores and they have all been exceptionally positive experiences from the upbeat young women who try so hard to help to the unique, boho, hippie style clothes that I adore and continue to collect. One of my all time favorite sales girls (Danielle) who I used to see consistently at The Free People Water Tower location recently moved here to this store after being promoted for excellent service skills and honestly I'm not surprised. The sales team goes above and beyond to help you find exactly what you're seeking and it's fun just to stop in here for friendly chat even if you can't find something special. I especially love the new dresses that just came in and this week I made a very fortunate find-- a Jimi Hendrix t-shirt drastically marked down in my size leftover from this past summer. Always look out for their sale on sale because you'll end up walking away with some exquisite item marked low but still incredibly beautiful. I love the thigh high leg warmers, the glittery dresses, velvet dresses and unique purses. A definite plus is after your purchase the sales team wraps it all up in a beautiful, cloth, colorful reusable bag you can use for every day needs. I'm a free people junkie and this tiny store has so much to offer especially now that Danielle is there. The clothes range from inexpensive to moderate to luxury but you'll still find something special no matter what your budget is so you may as well splurge a little because you are definitely receiving higher quality merchandise that will attract many many compliments whenever you wear it. Within these past two weeks I wore a total of three different dresses and strangers on the streets of Chicago definitely loved my "look" and wanted to know where I shop. I like places that give out memorable and unique shopping bags when you make a purchase. So for their adorable, reusable crossbody shopping bags alone, I give this Free People boutique four stars! At full price, Free People clothing is pretty expensive - you'll likely pay around $90 for a top and $180 for a dress. But their sale section is pretty good - I saw some cute items for around 50 percent off, and that's just enough to make my bargain senses tingle. I bought an adorable leather and rope waist belt here for around $25 - not my best deal ever, but I'll take it! Overall: a great place to linger in if you're looking for a reasonable splurge item or two, plus some great sale steals. read more

I walk past this store twice a day everyday in my daily commute. I was so intrigued by they use of knits and colors. So one Saturday, I made plans to stop by when I had time. This store is pretty cool if you like the hippie chic look (which I do). Unfortunately, The makers of these clothes didn't think of didn't think much of people NOT waif-ishly thin when they designed them. That was apparent, the moment I walked thru the door. Simply put, if you like the clothing line Free People, then you will love this store. The sales people are completely friendly without being snotty or pushy, and if you look in the sale section in back, there are some great deals. I got a beautiful scarf from there and some sunglasses, and they actually weren't all that much. The sunglasses (the big Jackie O type) were 20 or 25 I think and the hand knit/ribbon woven multi colored scarf was maybe 40? Creativity is oozing out of this label, and I'm happy they have chosen Wicker Park for their Chicago debut. If you are single and on the "scene," then this clothing works if you want to put out a sophisticated, yet laid-back vibe. Think Northwestern co-ed meets Hungarian babushka-knitter. Urban Outfitters without the urban. If you are a parent of a female child, then this works because it is becoming, but not trampy. The styles are feminine, but the cuts are not engineered to show -ahem- butt cleavage. One star off because Free People remains ridiculously expensive, which is sort of excusable given the handcrafted uniqueness of the clothing... however, if they are targeting aforementioned females, they may be asking a little much. read more

I went into the Free People on Southport and saw a pair of shorts I loved but need a different size. The girl working was super helpful and looked up locations that had what I was looking for in my size. Staff at Water Tower didn't see the item in the racks. The system shows it at the Bucktown store, but they have different hours and weren't open yet. The sales associate wrote down the item and gave me the number of this store to call when they open to see if they have the shorts and hold them until end of day. I have called about 6 times in the last 2 hours and no one answers the phone! It rings until it just cuts out. There isn't even voicemail set up to leave a message. Being a Thursday morning, there is no way this store is so swamped that whomever is working can't pick up the phone! This is a terrible way to run a business. Good job losing business on tiny piece of overpriced fabric! read more

I absolutely cannot get enough of this store! Every time I go in I fall in love with something all over again. Although I have been there only a few times, the staff still recognizes me more than stores I shop at every week! The cute clothes are a little expensive, but very well made. I have only had problem with one shirt (it was embroidered, and I washed it wrong so it frayed) but they immediately returned it! Five Stars for amazing customer service and a fresh look! read more

i never tried on anything from free people before coming here. thought, hey, branch out of your style, maybe mix it up with some funky pieces. well... i tried them on and didn't really fit my body shape. my friend is a big fan so she bought a few things, which comes in a cute fabric bag that i loved. so, even tho i didn't find anything the first time, i decided to come again to see if there's ANYTHING at all that works well. things that look like they could work (not even love) are just too pricey. after another 30 minutes combing thru the store, i decided, hey, maybe i'll ask if i can just get a bag. first, the sales person suggested that i buy a pair of $10 sunglasses, when i was wearing a nice pair right on my head. then she kinda gave me this "ugh..." look and lecture. then begrudgingly gave me a bag and said "now scoot!" after i said i'll tell people about them. i think a "i'm sorry but we can't really do that" attitude would have been much easier to swallow. they got 1 star for actually giving me the bag. :) fulfilling my promise of telling people about them. read more

Free people items, i normally have a soft spot for, like many others in this hood. But the customer service in almost horrible! This store probably has what you want in terms of bell bottoms and cute overalls, however the staff is quite bad. I shop often on the website to get more options and end up returning here and picking up something else. The staff will just talk to their friends instead of helping you, even when you're standing right there. And practically fling your purchased item at you in a bag! Too bad. Don't know what happened, but I won't be going here any longer. read more

This is one of my favorite clothing lines. So I was crazy excited when I found out the store was opening. Their clothes are well-made and unique and there is so much to choose from. The colorful hues helps provide a splash of much needed color to my mostly black wardrobe. The store itself is super chic. And I must say, they really pay attention to detail. It's very colorful and cheery looking. Even the dressing room was frilly. And I love the cloth shopping bag they give you when you make a purchase. A friend of mine took it from me and now uses it as a purse! The sales associates were friendly and not pretentious like a majority of the other stores in Wicker Park. However, even though I love the store and the prices aren't overbearing, I did have a slight issue. I bought a shirt from here for $60, and two days later I was at Nordstrom Rack and I found the same shirt (though in a different color) for $19.99. So I suggest you check a department store that carries Free People before coming here, you may find the exact same item for cheaper. read more

I don't know about this specific store, but Free People's 'service' via its website is the WORST of any eCommerce site I have ever dealt with, and I'm in the business! Terrible, terrible, terrible! My transaction was held up for no apparent reason, then I was told it didn't matter because they assured me the item would be shipped immediately. Then, I received an email saying they cancelled my order.. .no explanation. They offered a nominal discount on my next purchase, but because I was looking to buy a specific item, I wasn't sure what would be an appropriate replacement, so I asked to apply the discount to a gift card. I must start out by saying though their clothes have a fun style, I am much too poor to afford anything at Free People. However, customer service at the Wicker Park location have made me really enjoy being in the store. It was my first experience in an actual Free People store but I liked the inventory I'd seen online. Their store had a pleasing aesthetic and a very welcoming atmosphere. I was browsing and was asked if I could be helped once with a friendly attitude, which I didn't need but appreciated the offer. Then, I realized how much I loved the the song playing on the speakers and asked the girl if she could tell me what band and song name it was. She and the other girl in the back room dropped what they were doing to figure it out. That is so rare, when retailers targeted at youth are actually kind and helpful. They looked it up online and about 3 minutes later one of the girls came out not only to tell me the band and song name but she had already written the info on a post-it note for me. I know it is a simple gesture, but it made me want to go back once I have some money. The point is, go into Free People for cute clothes and exceptional service. read more
